Queensland Corvette Club Inc. President’s Report. Page 5.December 2012
A “SEASON’S GREETINGS” TO ALL.
As another year comes to an end and most of us planning holidays with the
family,I look at the year past and realize how much I have enjoyed many
events with club members and guests throughout this time. This includes our
picnics, dinners, weekend drives, presidents weekend hosted by our previous
president Peter Turner, a concourse which was our biggest in ten years and a
couple of Lakeside track days that is an event that is well attended every
year.
We also had a change of committee at our AGM. We the new committee
hope that all of our members are happy with our performance over the last 5
months and look forward to any constructive criticism moving into the new
year.
Most recently we enjoyed our Christmas party at the Royal Hotel at
Harrisville, West of Brisbane. We had a great day with the jumping castle for
the kids, a great little venue with a picturesque backdrop and our hosts
Monica, Steve, family and staff treating us to some terrific country hospitality
with the provision of refreshments and a wonderful two course Christmas
lunch which included a mixed roast with salad and vegetables, sticky date
pudding and pavlova. We had a great attendance of 60 people including Reg
and Sandy Vine who we all enjoyed seeing after making such an effort to
come.
As usual we exchanged stories and enjoyed each other’s company and then
at approximately 2:00pm Santa arrived to give the children big and small
their gifts
I would like to wish all QCC members and their families A wonderful Festive
Season and a safe and happy new year and if you’re out in your Vette please
be drive safely.
I look forward to enjoying another terrific year in 2013 with you all.
Take care,
Chris Livermore
President QCC.

Queensland Corvette Club Inc. MIKE’S TECH TIP’S N TRIVIA Page 7 December. 2012
Mike’s Tech Tips and Trivia
When your car insurance renewal arrives, do you shop around? I do, every year!
Glenys’ Honda Civic renewal arrived and I nearly fell off my chair. This particular company wanted
$580. This is after 9 years as a loyal customer with no claims ever! As it happened, there was a brochure
in the letter box the same day from NRMA offering a 10% discount off any quote. I phoned NRMA and
gave the Honda details—they quoted me $375. Well guess what I did?
Keith Hosking told me a story that should interest any of you C2 or C3 owners. Keith had his immaculate
1965 Corvette on display at a recent Redcliffe show .Someone came up to him and said “there is smoke
coming from under your bonnet”. Keith quickly went to have a look. The sun’s rays were bouncing off the
highly polished air-cleaner cover and acting like a magnifying glass on the underside of the raised bonnet
(hood). Those of you, who do display your Corvettes on a sunny day with the bonnet up, should perhaps
have a cover over the chrome air cleaner. I have actually heard this story from someone else, several years
ago.
Regardless of what age our Corvettes are, there is always the possibility of a breakdown and a need for a
Tow Truck to attend. Mike Reptik’s C4 did break down recently on a run to assist Camp Quality in their
fund raising. Most of us would watch with some concern as the tilt tray was raised and the chains hooked
up to “something” under our Beloved Corvette. To prevent any damage in the future, Mike came up with
the idea of attaching a rope permanently under the front of the Corvette. This would always be there for a
tow truck driver to attach his chain to. I took my “Blue Shark” to Mike’s place and had the Corvette
raised on a hoist. It was very simple to attach a rope—it would always be there for any towing situation.
See attached photo. Mike Reptik would be happy to advise anyone on how to attach this damage saving
“device”. His home telephone number is 07 38240280.
Soon silence will have passed into legend. Man has turned his back
on silence. Day after day he invents machines and devices that
increase noise and distract humanity from the essence of life,
contemplation,meditation and common sense.

Queensland Corvette Club Inc. Thanksgiving Lakeside 25/10/2012 Page 8 December. 2012
Thanksgiving Day at LAKESIDE---This is an event a lot of us (the Revhead set amongst us particularly)
look forward to. Sunday 25 th November 2012 was no different. This is an excuse to celebrate Thanksgiving
Day albeit an American Tradition it is a time we pay homage of “Thanksgiving to GM”---for providing us
with some wonderful automobiles to remember a bygone era.
The day was perfect, albeit HOT!! 19 Corvettes were lined up at the Corvette Queensland Pit Parking.
Down Under had about 10 Corvettes and I counted about a dozen other Corvettes scattered around---
obviously not in our Clubs.
Driving around lakeside is a real Buzz, and you do not have to worry about a blue uniformed person with a
camera, hidding in the bushes!! The pace was fast and furious for some and more sedate for others, but we
all loved our cruise time on centre stage.
A few of the more daring participated in the Midday Mayhem of the 1/8 mile drag racing and of course
Wheels Webro and Ernie’s favourite- the Slalom event. Although neither of the boys won an award, no
doubt they will be back with a Vengeance again next year.
Many of us left early as there were only the one “cruising”’ event for our club, but a couple of Diehards
Loitered around to the end and had another cruise around in the free for all event. They did say that it was
much quieter at the end of the day with only a handful of cars on the track, and of course drove
appropriately to suit the conditions.
If you wish to see more photos and video, have a look at Ernie’s Bucket Photos on our website Homepage.
Members, who have never been around the track and are a bit apprehensive, need not worry. You basically
set your own pace. If you do not wish to redline your Vette, just do what I do and stay in the “left” lane—let
everyone pass This usually works, however if you ask Keith Hosking he may not agree, as at one stage while
coming down the straight, both Webro and Ernie blasted past him at a great rate, one on each side and at
the sametime. It’s a good thing Keith’s hearing is not the best, as he would have lost a considerable amount
more at the time.
I know I am looking forward to next year’s events and there’s a good chance a couple of other loonies I
know are also. Cheers and Merry Christmas to all Mike Gocs

WIN ACCLAIM IN PRESTIGE MELBOURNE CAR SHOW
We have just arrived back from a wonderful event, RACV “Motorclassica-
Australian International Concours d'Elegance and Classic Motor Show” for 2012,
at the Royal Exhibition Building in Carlton Gardens in Melbourne.
Our 1959 Corvette C1, had been selected to participate in this prestige car show
and what a car show it was! 125 cars from around the world were invited, from an
early model 1898 Thompson Steam Car, to the latest Classic selection of a 1986
Lotus Esprit S3. The 16 motorcycles on show ranged from a 1914 EWB to a 1973
Ducati 750 GT. An historic collection of Brabham cars with Sir Jack Brabham
himself attending. A living Legend!!
The Motorclassica is a four day event. On the first day, a calavade of the
“Classics” were driven from Albert Park Formula 1 venue, through the CBD
streets of Melbourne, to the beautiful Royal Exhibition Building (built in 1880).
What a fitting building to display such beautifully preserved cars!
The official opening, in the form of a Gala Cocktail Party, was held amongst the
cars, giving all the entrants and organisers, time to meet and greet. Also, we had
the advantage of looking at all the cars and bikes in our own private showing.
John Wood, (Tom Croydon in the TV series “Blue Heelers”), was the very popular
Master of Ceremonies. He also displayed his much loved Mk IV Jaguar.
The following three days were open to the General Public, with 33 Car Clubs from
around Victoria participating, by displaying up to 200 cars a day, on the open
forecourt area. Several Corvette were on display these days.
Saturday was the Judging and Presentation day, allowing the Sunday visitors
and patrons the added advantage of seeing who the section winners were, by the
display of trophies on their cars.
Our Corvette C1 was one of these winners. We were so thrilled to have our car
win the Award for 'Post War Classics (American & Australian)'. Just to have been
part of this wonderful event was an honour, the addition of the win was a bonus.
The cars and motor bikes in this yearly event are not invited to return again for
several years to come. The event organisers believe that there are more cars and
bikes hidden in garages yet to be discovered and participate.
Should anyone be in the Melbourne area in October, this is one car show not to
miss. It is truely a well organised and prestigious Event.
Trevor and Joy Jones.
Editors’ Note:- The Jones are also members of NCRS Australia and USA and at a
recent judging in Melbourne, were given the impressive score of 97.5%- Top
Flight. Sounds like a car we want at our next Concourse!!
“They should sell tickets to ride in the ZR-1
There’d be a queue for miles”
Quote: Joshua Dowling – Top Gear
It’s a monster and it’s a lamb …
The Ultimate
Corvette
Putter around town, keeping its
supercharged LS9 6.2L V8 below 3000
rpm and it’s as easy to drive as any sports
car. But dip hard into the throttle and the
ZR1’s exhaust butterflies open while the car
unleashes its full 476kW and 819Nm. of
torque to the rear tires – and this amount of
grunt only needs to move around 1500kg,
more than 300kg less than a Commodore.
Then listen to the glorious, ripping exhaust
note that’s music to any enthusiast’s ear.
The fastest Corvette ever
With a top speed of 330km/h and
acceleration of 0-100km in 3.3 seconds
it’s scary – unless you’re a racing car
driver. The ZR1 will easily do 110km in
first gear!
To put performance numbers in
perspective, the ZR1 has about 10% more
power than the latest Ferrari 458 Italia and
Lamborghini Gallardo V10 supercars – and
a staggering 50% more torque than either
of the Italians.
