Queensland Corvette Club Inc. President’s Report. Page 5. January 2013
Presidents Report :-
I hope all of our members had an enjoyable and safe Christmas and New
Year celebration. I spent my holidays with my family and went for a farm stay
at Maidenwell. We visited the Bunya Mountains and Coomba Falls (Where my
car was milked as we walked to and from the falls) who would think that in a
small country town that you would find criminals. It has reinforced to me that
we should always ensure that we insure our belongings.
Enough of my adventures and on with a new and exciting year. We have a full
calendar of events through to March and beyond. Please refer to the events
page and or the web site for these events. It would be great if we can have a
strong turnout at the Nationals in Toowoomba as this is the 25th National
event and the 60th birthday of the Corvette marque.
I am sorry that I was unable to make it to our first meeting of 2013 but look
forward to catching up with all of you at the upcoming events and the next
meeting. Wishing you all the best.
Event of interest for anyone wanting
to take their pre 1990 car for a run.
Kind regards, Chris Livermore.

Queensland Corvette Club Inc. MIKE’S TECH TIP’S N TRIVIA Page 7 January 2013
A lot of Corvettes are being imported and if you are buying one, you do NOT know what
it’s life history is. To be on the safe side, assume that it has been sitting around for a long
time---do the following. Make sure there is NO fuel left in the tank, lines , pump and
carburettor. Rubber fuel lines should be replaced; Confirm that the fuel tank is rust free
and clean on the inside; carburettors that sit idle for a long time often leak because the
gaskets dry up and shrink. Rebuild it with new gaskets. Install a new battery, making sure
to clean the cables before you tighten them. Inspect all wiring for signs of trouble, such as
damage caused by rodents. Clean all major electrical connections, such as the junction
where the engine harnesses plug into the back of the fuse block on the firewall beneath the
master cylinder. Rebuild all four calipers with stainless steel inserts ----if this has NOT
already been done. Flush all of the old brake fluid out of the system and inspect all lines
and hoses for any sign of damage or deterioration. Drain all coolant out of the cooling
system, including the coolant that normally remains in the engine block when the radiator
is drained. Use a hose attached to the top radiator connection, and flush the entire system.
Remove the thermostat while doing this .When refilling the radiator, use a mix of half
distilled water and half good quality “green stuff”. Change the engine oil and filter.
Remove each spark plug and put a squirt or two of light oil into each cylinder. Remove the
ignition distributor and use the appropriate tool and an electric drill to spin the oil pump
until the oil pressure comes up as indicated on the guage. Now rotate the engine by hand
and then bring the oil pressure up again. Preferably have some one on hand who
understands correct distributor replacement. Having checked or replaced all of the above
things, your Corvette should be ready to start up. Have a fire extinguisher handy just in
case!! With the engine running, check engine bay and underneath the vehicle to see if
there are any leaks!!Is your C4 Corvette hard to start after going on a run on a hot day?
There are a number of things that can be causing or contributing to this problem. The best
starting point is to check to see if there are any trouble codes stored in the computer. One
possible culprit is a failing distributor. Another possible cause is a weak fuel pump or bad
fuel-pump relay. Normally , the relay will power the pump to prime the induction system
during the first couple of seconds that the engine cranks. A problem with the relay may be
preventing it from powering up the fuel pump as soon as it gets a signal from the
distributor when the engine begins to crank. Without that initial priming, the engine will
NOT start right away. The fuel pump circuit will close and start the flow after the engine’s
oil pressure reaches 4 psi and triggers a pressure switch. So you think “Run-flat” tyres are
are modern invention! The first production run-flat tyres sold to consumers was the
Goodyear SSt (Self Supporting Tyre) , which debuted at the New York Auto Show in 1978

PHIL, GLENN AND JAYNE'S SATURDAY NIGHT DINNER. With
another year coming to an end we headed off to Windaroo tavern for
our last dinner for 2012. We had four corvette's meet up at the
hyperdome for the short run down the highway to meet up with the
others at the tavern. With Susie away “Wheels Webro” came for a run
up the highway but got to the hyperdome at 6.30 not 6.00, and with no
phone on him ( its still on the kitchen table) John found his way down
to join us. 15 people sat down for an enjoyable dinner and drinks, A
small but still a good turn out, with the night still young there was a
call to go for a criuse down to the Gold coast, 6 covettes made the
journey but not before the C3's got fuel. Peter and Ali lead us down the
highway along the Broadwater, through the streets of Surfer's and
back up to Nerang Macca's for frappes and sundai's. With a few tired
people and Ali finally off facebook, we all headed on home. A great
night, see you all in the new year. Cheers Phil, Glenn and Jayne
JANE AND SALLY, RAFFLE WINNERS FROM DECEMBER MEETING.
Queensland Corvette Club Inc. IN MEMORIUM OF SANDY VINE. Page 9. January
A time for us all to remember someone special.
It is with great regret and sadness I sit here and report on the passing of
Sandy Vine. A great Lady of Fine Character, a Loving Mother to Tabitha
and Wife to Reg.
Sandy will be greatly missed by her friends in the Corvette Club.
We would hope that with Sandy’s passing that if Reg needs anything at
all in the coming months that their friends in the Club will be available
at any time to do whatever we can, during this time of great sorrow.
Sandy, “May You Rest In Peace”.
SHE LEFT US QUIETLY, HER THOUGHTS UNKNOWN,
BUT LEFT US A MEMORY, WE ARE PROUD TO OWN;
SO TREASURE HER LORD, IN YOUR GARDEN OF REST,
FOR WHEN ON EARTH, SHE WAS ONE OF THE BEST.

Queensland Corvette Club Inc FND to Sunnybank Hotel. Page 10. January 2013
Friday Night at the Sunnybank Hotel
Myself and Pauline hosted this dinner and arrived at the Hyperdome nice and early. Things
started off slow with only three other cars up till 6:25pm when things started to liven up. By
the time we left we had six Corvettes’ and four ring-ins, in the shape of three Holdens and
one Audi, which arrived last (must have been the driver).
I decided to take things easy heading along the freeway, but by the time we had reached our
destination I had earned the nickname of Miss Daisy, which I will have to change on the next
cruise.
Our venue was as usual very busy and a couple of our members (Geoff and Carolee) took the
opportunity to get in early and place their order with the rest of us content to sit and chat.
Little did we know that the rest of the hotel had decided to line up to order which left the
rest of us a good 20 minutes behind Geoff and Carolee, who were protecting their chips with
their knives, boy were we hungry by the time our meals arrived.
Everyone had a great time with Phil deciding to entertain some of us with an impromptu card
trick, don’t give up your day (night) job, Phil. Jack Turner was very unimpressed with the
goings on and continued playing with his GameBoy. Mr Turner decided to use the hotel
coasters as Frisbees and by the time we left you couldn’t see the carpet.
As we were all having a great time we didn’t notice the time passing and with a few hints
from the waitresses we left around 9:45. We then decided to head away from little Asia and
go to Maccas at little Mecca. On the way Mr Whittle decided to plant his foot as he was
passing me and like an idiot I took that to be a challenge and followed suit. Now I know why
Pauline is called Squirrel, not for collecting nuts but for crushing them, I got the hint and
quickly lifted my foot from the go faster pedal. When we arrived at the little Mecca, Maccas
we were pleasantly surprised to see our old mate Phil Vance who is now a “Nova” driver.
Well after we had all had our coffee’s and Mr & Mrs Roberts who decided they were still
hungry and had more to eat, we called it a night and left noisily, around 11:00pm.
Roll on our next Dinner
Ken & Pauline
decent, hardworking, honest Australians. It's the
other lousy two percent that get all the publicity. But
then, we elected them.

ACTUAL EXCHANGES BETWEEN PILOTS AND CONTROL TOWERS
Tower: "Delta 351, you have traffic at 10 o'clock, 6 miles!" Delta 351: "Give us another hint! We have digitalwatches!"
Tower: "TWA 2341, for noise abatement turn right 45 Degrees."
TWA 2341: "Center, we are at 35,000 feet.. How much noise can we make up here?"
Tower: "Sir, have you ever heard the noise a 747 makes when it hits a 727?"
O'Hare Approach Control to a 747: "United 329 heavy, your traffic is a Fokker, one o'clock, three miles, Eastbound."
United 329: "Approach, I've always wanted to say this...I've got the little Fokker in sight."
A DC-10 had come in a little hot and thus had an exceedingly long roll out after touching down.
San Jose Tower Noted: "American 751, make a hard right turn at the end of the runway, if you are able..
If you are not able, take the Guadalupe exit off Highway 101, make a right at the lights and return to the airport."
TOWER: "Eastern 702, cleared for takeoff, contact Departure on frequency 124.7" Eastern 702:
"TOWER, Eastern 702 switching to Departure.
By the way, after we lifted off we saw some kind of dead animal on the far end of the runway
." TOWER: "Continental 635, cleared for takeoff behind Eastern 702, contact Departure on frequency 124.7.
Did you copy that report from Eastern 702?" Continental 635: "Continental 635, cleared for takeoff, roger;
and yes, we copied Eastern. We've already notified our caterers."
One day the pilot of a Cherokee 180 was told by the tower to hold short of the active runway while a DC-8 landed.
The DC-8 landed, rolled out, turned around, and taxied back past the Cherokee.
Some quick-witted comedian in the DC-8 crew got on the radio and said, "What a cute little plane. Did you make it all by yourself?"
The Cherokee pilot, not about to let the insult go by, came back with a real zinger:
"I made it out of DC-8 parts. Another landing like yours and I'll have enough parts for another one."
The German air controllers at Frankfurt Airport are renowned as a short-tempered lot.
They not only expect one to know one's gate parking location, but how to get there without any assistance from them.
So it was with some amusement that we (a Pan Am 747) listened to the following exchange between
Frankfurt ground control and a British Airways 747, call sign Speedbird 206. Speedbird 206: " Frankfurt ,
Speedbird 206! Clear of active runway." Ground: "Speedbird 206. Taxi to gate Alpha One-Seven."
The BA 747 pulled onto the main taxiway and slowed to a stop.
Ground: "Speedbird, do you not know where you are going?"
Speedbird 206: "Stand by, Ground, I'm looking up our gate location now
." Ground (with quite arrogant impatience):"Speedbird 206, have you not been to Frankfurt before?"
Speedbird 206 (coolly): "Yes, twice in 1944, but it was dark -- and I didn't land."

Queensland Corvette Club Inc. THE FUNNIES PAGE. Page19. January 2013
AUSSIE BLOKE ETIQUETTE is recognised throughout the civilised world,
but we all need to be reminded from time to time. In General:
1) Never take an open stubby to a job interview.
2) Always identify people in your paddocks before shooting at them.
3) It's tacky to take an Esky to church.
4) If you have to vacuum the bed, it's time to change the sheets.
5) Even if you're certain you're included in the will,
it's rude to take your ute and trailer to the funeral.
EATING OUT: 1) When decanting wine from the box, tilt the paper cup and
pour slowly so as not to bruise the wine.
2) If drinking directly from the bottle, hold it with only one hand.
Entertaining at Home: 1) A centrepiece for the table should never be anything
prepared
by a taxidermist.. 2) Don't allow the dog to eat at the table,
no matter how good his manners are.
PERSONAL HYGIENE:
1) While ears need to be cleaned regularly, this should be done in private,
using one's OWN ute keys.
2) Even if you live alone, deodorant isn't a waste of money.
3) Extensive use of deodorant can only delay bathing by a few days.
4) Dirt and grease under the fingernails is a no-no,
it alters the taste of finger foods; and if you are a woman,
it can draw attention away from your jewellery.
THEATRE/CINEMA ETIQUETTE:
1) Crying babies should be taken to the lobby
and picked up after the movie ends.
2) Refrain from yelling abuse at characters on the screen.
Tests have proven they can't hear you.
WEDDINGS:
1) Livestock is a poor choice for a wedding gift.
2) For the groom, at least rent a tux. A tracksuit with a cummerbund
and a clean football jumper can create a tacky appearance.
3) Though uncomfortable, say "yes" to socks and shoes for the occasion.
DRIVING ETIQUETTE:
1) Dim your headlights for approaching vehicles,
even if your gun's loaded and the roo's in your rifle sight.
2) When entering a roundabout, the vehicle with the largest roo bar
doesn't always have the right of way.
3) Never tow another car using pantyhose and duct tape.
4) When sending your wife down the road with a petrol can,
it's impolite to ask her to bring back beer as well.

“They should sell tickets to ride in the ZR-1
There’d be a queue for miles”
Quote: Joshua Dowling – Top Gear
It’s a monster and it’s a lamb …
The Ultimate
Corvette
Putter around town, keeping its
supercharged LS9 6.2L V8 below 3000
rpm and it’s as easy to drive as any sports
car. But dip hard into the throttle and the
ZR1’s exhaust butterflies open while the car
unleashes its full 476kW and 819Nm. of
torque to the rear tires – and this amount of
grunt only needs to move around 1500kg,
more than 300kg less than a Commodore.
Then listen to the glorious, ripping exhaust
note that’s music to any enthusiast’s ear.
The fastest Corvette ever
With a top speed of 330km/h and
acceleration of 0-100km in 3.3 seconds
it’s scary – unless you’re a racing car
driver. The ZR1 will easily do 110km in
first gear!
To put performance numbers in
perspective, the ZR1 has about 10% more
power than the latest Ferrari 458 Italia and
Lamborghini Gallardo V10 supercars – and
a staggering 50% more torque than either
of the Italians.
