• Run: To = B Gap; Away = Free Hitter<br />

• Option = QB Player<br />

• Pass = Hook to Curl (usually)

5. Square your body (shoulder <strong>and</strong> hips) <strong>and</strong><br />

read the QB’s front shoulder<br />

• Work laterally<br />

6. Break when the “pin is pulled from the<br />

grenade” (front h<strong>and</strong> leaves the ball)<br />

7. Pursue<br />

Outside Linebacker Play<br />

• Jack <strong>and</strong> Rover<br />

• Base Alignment = 3x3 off of a TE, 4x3 off<br />

of a OT, Ax3 if there is a slot<br />

• Run: To = Force;<br />

Away = Boot, Reverse, Cutback<br />

• Option = Pitch Player (coverage)<br />

• Pass = Curl to Flat (usually)

– Two QB crossovers = 5-step – Get your body in the<br />

THROWING LANE<br />

• From the gun<br />

– Shoulder turn = 3-step – Turn your back to the QB <strong>and</strong><br />

run, hit #1 in the mouth<br />

– Catch <strong>and</strong> crossover (Any drop) = 5-step – Get under<br />

the CURL


Jack <strong>and</strong> Rover Coaching Points<br />

1. ID the #1 Receiver – Width<br />

2. Read the EMOL to the triangle<br />

3. Versus pass – keep the chin on the<br />

shoulder, pointed to the QB<br />

4. Work to takeaway the 2 nd level throw,<br />

then break downhill on the short pass<br />

5. You cannot get enough block recognition<br />

with the DE’s, OT’s, <strong>and</strong> TE’s
