• The dates and places <strong>of</strong> all significant court proceedings relating to the<br />

prosecution, and the outcome <strong>of</strong> all significant proceedings, including appeals;<br />

• Any pre-trial arrangements relating to a plea that may be entered by the<br />

accused at trial;<br />

• The interim release <strong>of</strong> the accused;<br />

• The sentence given to the accused, if convicted;<br />

• A decision that the accused is unfit to stand trial, and, if requested by the victim,<br />

notice <strong>of</strong> any subsequent hearings on this issue; and<br />

• The right <strong>of</strong> the victim to submit a victim impact statement.<br />

The VBR also states that:<br />

• A victim <strong>of</strong> crime should, if s/he so requests, be notified <strong>of</strong> any application <strong>for</strong><br />

release or any upcoming release <strong>of</strong> the <strong>of</strong>fender, including parole and temporary<br />

absence, and any escape from prison;<br />

• A victim <strong>of</strong> sexual assault should, if s/he so requests, be interviewed during the<br />

investigation <strong>of</strong> the crime only by police <strong>of</strong>ficers who are <strong>of</strong> the same gender as<br />

the victim; and<br />

• A victim’s property that is in the custody <strong>of</strong> justice <strong>of</strong>ficials should be returned<br />

promptly to the victim, once the property is no longer needed <strong>for</strong> the purposes <strong>of</strong><br />

the justice system.<br />
