An outstanding commitment to environmental
protection and sustainability has become tradition
at AG Cilander. In 1997, the Swiss finishing
specialist for clothing, home textiles and technical
textiles was the world’s first company to be certified
as an environmentally friendly production site
according to the requirements set out in the OEKO-
TEX Standard 1000.
The company continues to dedicate itself to farreaching
environmental commitments in all
business dealings, and thus remains one of the
trendsetters in dealing with environmental issues.
Traditional and innovative
In 1814, two businessmen from Herisau founded Appretur Meyer & Mittelholzer – thus laying the foundations for
the oldest textile company in the Appenzell canton. The private company became a joint stock corporation in
1873, and was renamed AG Cilander shortly afterwards. The company then gradually expanded and increased its
operational scope through patents and investments.
Today, Cilander boasts state-of-the-art production facilities at its three sites at Herisau, Flawil and Lützelflüh.
With 250 employees, the company currently finishes approximately 18 million metres of textile fabrics annually in
widths of 160 cm (standard) and 340 cm (decorative applications, technical textiles) across a production area of
40,000 m². Quality, innovation and customer orientation are the cornerstones of the sustained success of the
company.
Thanks to many years of experience and a wide range of skills, the company is able to develop tailored solutions in
its core applications of pre-treating, dyeing, finishing and coating all kinds of demanding fabrics.
The fact that Cilander always manages to stay in touch with their customers and the latest trends is no accident,
comments CEO Vincenzo Montinaro: “You have to be able to move and adapt in our business. In addition, the
ability to plan in advance is of critical importance.
Our strength is our ability to be able to react sensibly and flexibly to market developments.” Innovative processes
and technologies both contribute to the future-proof company facilities at AG Cilander.
