FMHS <strong>Annual</strong> <strong>Report</strong><br />
2011<br />
research in focused areas, 3 research centres have been established, viz. Centre for Stem Cell<br />
Research, Centre for Cancer Research and Centre for Research in Traditional Chinese Medicine.<br />
Next year is the 10th Anniversary of the founding of UTAR. We will work hands in hands with<br />
other faculties and centres of UTAR towards making UTAR the leading private institution of higher<br />
learning in Malaysia.<br />
It will be a year to consolidate our undergraduate teaching programmes and enhance the<br />
learning experience of the medical & health sciences undergraduates. In line with the recent<br />
development in education of an outcome-based curriculum, the FMHS will concentrate on developing<br />
the learning outcomes for all teaching-learning activities in the different phases of the medical and<br />
health science courses. We will make every effort to promote the e-learning platform (MOODLE) for the<br />
conduct of our teaching-learning activities.<br />
The FMHS will continue to compete for funding to support research and the postgraduate<br />
programmes. We have been successful in obtaining research grants from the Ministry of Higher<br />
Education (MOHE) such as FRGS, from the Ministry of Sciences, Technology & Innovation (MOSTI)<br />
such as Nano Technology Fund and e-Science Fund, private sources such as MAKNA Collaborative<br />
Research Fund, EuYanSang Research Grant, Cryocrod Collaborative R&D Grant and HITV Research<br />
Grant. However, we will not be limiting ourselves to bid for local funding; we will also set our sight for<br />
international funding.<br />
While our mission is to promote education and research, we should continue to interact with the<br />
community to fulfil our corporate social responsibilities. In year 2011, the second year MBBS students<br />
had carried out a successful community project on health promotion in the Seri Kembangan new<br />
