Keeping it under control
Flexibility. Not all data is alike; some
types yield better deduplication results
than others. With FalconStor
Deduplication you can choose from
any combination of four deduplication
methods to align deduplication
processes with business goals and
unique requirements.
• Inline deduplication minimizes
storage requirements. It is ideal for
small storage configurations or
environments where immediate
replication is needed.
• Post-process deduplication occurs
after backup completes, therefore it
can be scheduled to run at any time.
A recommended best practice is to
leverage post-process deduplication
to minimize the initial backup time,
and switch to inline deduplication for
subsequent backups.
• Concurrent deduplication starts
when the first set of records is written
so that it runs concurrently with
backup. Deduplication engines work
immediately, making optimal use of
available CPU resources.
• No dedupe is for data that does not
deduplicate effectively, such as
pre-compressed data or data
exported to tape. Selectively turning
off deduplication saves CPU cycles,
helping you focus time and resources
on data that provides the highest
deduplication ratios and value.
Scalability. Organizations need a
deduplication solution that works
today and is built for tomorrow. Some
systems can only expand with a forklift
upgrade, forcing IT teams to purchase
additional equipment and capacity.
