1 TECHNICAL BACKGROUND<br />

The <strong>PS</strong>-<strong>Energy</strong> <strong>Pack</strong> secures the continous power supply of 24VDC in case of mains<br />

breakdown. The <strong>Energy</strong> <strong>Pack</strong> is connected to a mains supplied DC-Power supply (contained<br />

in <strong>PS</strong>-<strong>AMS</strong>) and the actuator (<strong>PS</strong>-<strong>AMS</strong>).<br />

By using a relay implemented in the <strong>Energy</strong> <strong>Pack</strong>, a status information is generated and<br />

given to the <strong>PS</strong>-<strong>AMS</strong>.<br />

This signal is connected to the Power Fault input of <strong>PS</strong>-<strong>AMS</strong>.<br />

As long as the signal of Power fault is active a red LED is blinking on the actuator and reacts<br />

as programmed.<br />

A reset of the Power fault signal will be done automatically when the mains are up.<br />

2 SETTING THE FAIL SAFE POSITION<br />

If Power Fault is detected, the actuator reacts as programmed in the „Safety & Control“<br />

section of the Communication Software.<br />

(Refer to the special Handbook for details about the Communication Software)<br />

The parameter Power fault can be changed to set up different actions:<br />

• Stop Actuator - When failure is detected, the actuator stops immediate, and will not<br />

move until failure is reset.<br />

• Close Valve - Actuator closes the valve immediate.<br />

• Open Valve - Actuator opens the valve immediate.<br />

• <strong>PS</strong>1 - Actuator moves to the given position 1 (as set up in section basics)<br />

• <strong>PS</strong>2 - Actuator moves to the given position 2 (as set up in section basics)<br />

• <strong>PS</strong>3 - Actuator moves to the given position 3 (as set up in section basics)<br />

• <strong>PS</strong>4 - Actuator moves to the given position 4 (as set up in section basics)<br />

• <strong>PS</strong>5 - Actuator moves to the given position 5 (as set up in section basics)<br />

3 USING THE <strong>PS</strong>EP<br />

• The charging-process is indicated by the yellow LED on the <strong>PS</strong>EP, while the green LED<br />

indicates the fully charged status. To avoid a damaging total discharge of the Ni-cad cells,<br />

the <strong>PS</strong>EP switches of its critical charging level, and indicates this by the red LED.<br />

• The complete charging process of <strong>PS</strong>EP needs 20 hours approximately.<br />
