Dear Parents and Community Members,
Assembly
Last Friday we inducted our School Representave Council members and the school
captains, vice‐captains and prefects ran the assembly for the first me. Kindergarten
aended their first ‘big school’ assembly. Congratulaons to all our office bearers for
your commitment to Alma and for taking on such responsible posions. Congratulaons
also, to those wonderful children in the first year at school for your paence, aenon
and beauful manners.
Parents Bringing Lunches to School
Somemes children have to wait for parents to bring lunches up to school.
These should be delivered to the front office before 11.10am and before 1.20pm.
Somemes children sit down here in the foyer for most of the breaks waing for food to
arrive. If, for some reason, children are not given lunch, we will arrange for something at
the canteen and parents will be billed for the cost.
Swimming Carnival
We are looking forward to seeing everyone at the carnival tomorrow. If your child is
unable to aend, please remember to send a note to school on Thursday detailing the
reason for their absence. Parent helpers will be most welcome!
Parent Informaon Sessions
Over the next few weeks, each class will have parent informaon sessions to let you know
what is in store for your child this year. I encourage as many people as possible to aend
these meengs to meet your child’s teacher and gain an understanding of the curriculum
and the acvies in which your child will be involved in 2013. As far as possible, we will
arrange sessions to avoid clashes, so that parents with children in different classes are
able to aend any and all that are necessary.
Professional Training
On Thursday, Michael Johnstone and I will be aending some professional training about
Personalised Learning Plans run by the Dare To Lead Aboriginal group. We are trying to
find ways to improve the use and effecveness of these mandatory plans for Aboriginal
students.

URGENT!
Student Informaon sheets and Long Term Permission notes
must be returned to school URGENTLY.
It is a requirement by the Department of Educaon and
Community that a form is completed for EACH child aending
school at the beginning of every year.
If you did not receive either of these forms or need
another one please call in to the front office and collect some
new ones as soon as possible.

Swimming events will begin at approximately 9.30am; recess will be taken at 11.00am and lunch at 1.00pm.
All students will travel to and from the pool by bus, supervised by teachers.
Students will participate in competition and novelty events at the carnival.
Children should bring the following:
Hat,
Sunscreen
Towel
Swimmers
Water bottle
Recess and lunch
Asthma medication
Please have these items clearly labelled so that any lost property can be returned promptly.
The Pool Kiosk will be open but children are encouraged to bring a packed recess and lunch.
No child will be dismissed from the pool without permission.
Our priority is to provide a fun and safe day at the pool for all students.
Library Days
Last week was our first week of library lessons. Each class has a one hour library lesson each
week. Students are encouraged to develop the habit of borrowing and reading a book on a
weekly basis.
To borrow, a student must have a library bag and have returned any books previously loaned
out to them.

Mrs Julie Holmes is the canteen convenor at Alma Public
School and together with a wonderful band of volunteers, runs
a healthy canteen for staff and students.
Thank you and welcome to our new parents who have
volunteered their time this year and welcome back to our
regular volunteers!
Delicious fruit salad is now available!
Menus are available from the canteen or the front office. Orders
are taken in the morning before line-up assembly. Students can
order direct from the canteen or parents may choose to place
money in an envelope with your child’s name, class and order
clearly marked on the front of the envelope.

Broken Hill Basketball Association is holding a
COME AND TRY DAY on Sunday 24 th February at 10.30am
for anyone interested in playing Basketball in Under 8 and Under 10 grades for boys and girls.
We will be taking registrations on the day and If you don’t have a team
we will endeavor to find you one.
There will be a free sausage sizzle for all kids
