<strong>Jane</strong> <strong>Goodall</strong>’s<br />
Roots & Shoots<br />
<strong>Jane</strong> <strong>Goodall</strong>’s Roots & Shoots is dedicated<br />
to inspiring, training and supporting<br />
tomorrow’s leaders today. This powerful,<br />
youth-driven network includes tens <strong>of</strong><br />
thousands <strong>of</strong> members in more than 120<br />
countries. Toge<strong>the</strong>r, youth <strong>of</strong> all ages are<br />
taking action to improve our world through<br />
service learning projects that promote care<br />
and concern for animals, <strong>the</strong> environment<br />
and <strong>the</strong> human community. Across <strong>Canada</strong>,<br />
our program has grown in recent years<br />
to include more than 400 Roots & Shoots<br />
groups working on exciting grassroots<br />
projects in <strong>the</strong>ir communities.<br />

Planet Releaf<br />
In February <strong>2010</strong> we launched a new campaign<br />
for our members to get <strong>the</strong>m engaged in issues<br />
related to Canadian and global forests. Named<br />
by a Roots & Shoots group, Planet Releaf <strong>of</strong>fers<br />
a dedicated website with a wealth <strong>of</strong> information<br />
and project ideas for teachers, parents and young<br />
people. Over <strong>the</strong> past few months Roots & Shoots<br />
members have also had a chance to take part<br />
in hands-on Speak for <strong>the</strong> Trees workshops in<br />
Toronto and Vancouver, where <strong>the</strong>y gained new<br />
skills in caring for trees near where <strong>the</strong>y live.<br />
The <strong>of</strong>ficial Planet Releaf campaign launch was<br />
held at <strong>the</strong> University <strong>of</strong> Toronto in partnership<br />
with Evergreen and LEAF. More than 80 people<br />
came out to watch <strong>the</strong> critically acclaimed<br />
documentary “Taking Root: A Vision <strong>of</strong> Wangari<br />
Maathai”, and a series <strong>of</strong> three short films from<br />
<strong>the</strong> documentary series Tree Stories.<br />
