JOB SEARCH TIPS
Here are some handy tips to keep in mind when looking for employment.
Networking
• Tell everyoneyou know that you are looking for work -
friends, relatives, neighbours, former co-workers and
employers, etc.. These people may know of job leads.
• Visit job fairs. Go dressed for an interview and bring copies of
your résumé.
• Register with personnel agencies.
Job Searching
• Use all available resources. The County of Wellington has a
resource centre which has free services including books on job
hunting, fax and Internet use, newspapers and job postings.
• Look beyond newspapers. Try community bulletin boards at
your children’s school, the local community college, or your
place of worship.
• Go online. Many job opportunities are listed on the Internet.
• Research companies you are interested in, even if they are not
hiring. Send them your résumé and let them know you are
looking.
• Volunteer your time. If you find you lack the experience needed
for the jobs you are looking for, learn new skills by volunteering
in theCommunity Placement Program.
