• Result of Congress’ response to tragic events<br />
of September 11, 2001<br />
• Developed by the Defense-Wide Information<br />
Assurance Program (DIAP) after the Federal<br />
Information Security Management Act (FISMA)<br />
was enacted into U.S. Federal Law on<br />
December 17, 2002<br />
• Established In August 2004 by <strong>DoD</strong>
Purpose of <strong>8570.1</strong><br />
To reinforce computer and network<br />
security within the Federal Government<br />
and affiliated parties (such as government<br />
contractors) through a sustained,<br />
professional, IA workforce with the<br />
knowledge and skills to effectively prevent<br />
and respond to attacks against <strong>DoD</strong><br />
information, information systems, and<br />
information infrastructures.
