„Attractive, aggressive, team oriented“
– These were adjectives used to describe
the performance of the German national
soccer team during the World cup in South
Africa. New ideas combined with a vision
was the key to their unexpected success.
These attributes also apply to a successful
company like Badger Meter Europa.
Together with our employees, distributors
and customers, we want to implement our
vision for a modern flow metering and control
solutions company. We want to expand
our market share of flow measurement &
flow control products, and as a team, we
want to contribute to the flow solutions of
our customers.
Throughout the global economic crisis in
2009, we believed in our vision and consequently
worked on our new product
development. We want to convince our
customers of the stability of our company
and our ongoing product offerings.
With the new MAG meter generation
including M2000 and M5000, as well as
the Verification Device, we are setting
new technical standards. The new oval
gear meter generation will win new market
share thanks to its price-performance
ratio.
Besides the product focus, we also restructured
inside of our company to
achieve our vision and our ambitious
goals. With Rudolf Spanner, who joined
us in June of this year, we now have an
experienced sales expert on our team
to manage our sales and distributor network.

Show preview IFAT 2010
September 13 – 17, 2010 in Munich
After combining the two leading environmental
exhibitions – IFAT and ENTSORGA
– IFAT changed its three-year rotation to
a two year cycle. This is why the show
is taking place this year in September.
The IFAT ENTSORGA is the most important
worldwide trade fair for innovations
and services in the water & wastewater
industry. It is the largest and most comprehensive
environmental show in the
world with more exhibition space than
any other fair of its kind. All key players in
the industry are presenting their newest
products, solutions and services. The last
IFAT was already a record with 2,605 registered
exhibitors from 41 countries. This
reflected an international participation
rate of 32%. This high international record
was exceeded by the visitors with a 33%
increase in attendance. 119,476 visitors
came to IFAT 2008 from 170 countries. The
outlook for 2010 is even more promising.
As an international meeting place for decision makers, the IFAT ENTSORGA is also the
meeting place for water & wastewater flow measurement technology. come and visit
us in hall A4 on booth 223, and discover the world of state-of-the-art flow meters: from
electromagnetic flow meters to nutating disc meters, impeller meters and ultrasonic

Show preview Automechanika 2010
September 14-19, 2010 in Frankfurt/Main
As the leading international meeting point for the automotive market and worldwide
largest trade fair for the automotive aftermarket, the Automechanika is the platform
for a unique product offering in the field of car parts and garage equipment. With
4,471 exhibitors in 2008 – 913 were from Germany, the show welcomed 161.269 visitors.
Badger Meter is once again exhibiting this year. You can find us in hall 9.1 on booth c35.

New oval gear meters
Badger Meter is expanding its OG lube meter series to industrial applications. In the first
stage, ½“, ¾“ and 1“ meter sizes will be completely redesigned.
OG meters in aluminum and stainless steel
are now available. The basic version is delivered
with a pulse output. Of course, all
sizes are available with flanges. A new
industrial register will be designed and
offered for various models.
In addition, all of the meters can also be
combined with the “F-series” electronic
display.

Instruments & Flow
Dynamics
In April 2010, Badger Meter, Inc. purchased
cox Instruments LLc and its subsidiary
Flow Dynamics, Inc. cox Instruments and
Flow Dynamics have been manufacturing
and marketing precision high-performance
turbine meters and calibration
test stands for over 50 years. Both companies
will merge into a wholly-owned
subsidiary of Badger Meter, Inc., named
cox Flow Measurement, Inc. The successful
management team of cox will join our
team in the future. This acquisition ideally
fits into Badger Meter’s product portfolio.
The standard turbines for liquids
and gases are manufactured in sizes
from DN6 to DN100 (1/4” to 4”). The turbine
meters can be used for fluids up to a
viscosity of 1000 mPas. For highly precise
measurements, the patented dual rotor
turbine can be quoted. With an accuracy
of +/- 0.1 % and a repeatability of 0.02%,
NEW
this model is unique on the market. Application
fields range from tanking plants
to fuel consumption measurement and
cryogenic applications down to -273°c.
The product offering extends to custom-
ized turbines for special applications.
NIST is using these turbine meters as
reference products. Besides the turbine
meters, cox is manufacturing calibration
test stands. Four different standard sizes
manage flow measurements of 0.04 l/min
to 1510 l/min. In addition, a calibration
service is available for all flow meters.
The flow calibration lab is registered and
approved according to NVLAB and ANAP.
Badger Meter Europa is planning to add
a cox calibration test stand in the near
future for the German location in order to
extend their service offering in the field
of calibration.
New MAG meter generation
Since its launch a few months ago, the new M2000 has been very well accepted by
customers. The newly-designed amplifier combines state-of-the-art electronics with userfriendly
menu-driven operation.
With a backlit, four-line display and an accuracy
of ±0,25% of actual value, the M2000
gives real-time flow measurement data,
plus daily and total information and alarm
messages. The standard amplifier has four
programmable digital outputs, one digital
input, power output and uSB interface. The
meter is provided in an IP 67 housing and
measures all conductive fluids in pipe sizes
ranging from DN 6 to DN 2000. Model 85-
265 V Ac is already available. Model 9-36
V Dc will be available soon. Integrated test
tools make installation and service easier.
The M2000 is replacing the former Primo ®
Advanced. The price remains the same as
Primo ® Advanced until the end of 2010.
Battery-powered MAG
The M5000 is a battery-powered electromagnetic
flow meter with a very high accuracy
even at very low flows. The excellent
repeatability as well as the above-average
battery life makes this innovative water
meter indispensable for the water market.
Typical applications are leak detection
in water networks, water consumption
measurements and irrigation plants. The
meter is best suited for applications without
a power supply where exact consumption
or flow rates are required. Of course, the
M5000 can also be used with an available
power supply. The meter can be powered
with main voltage and in case of a main
failure, it is powered by an internal battery.
Important data are consequently saved.
NEW
The M5000 has been designed for very
harsh environmental measurement conditions.
The meter has no moving parts and
can be used to measure water containing
particles like sand or gravel. The M5000 is
encased in an IP67 housing (optional IP68),
which makes it a reliable meter even when
submerged. The standard meter is equipped
with an internal datalogger which can
read-out via an IrDA or RS232 interface
with ModBus ® RTu protocol. The collected
data can also be retrieved via radio
frequency or GSM. The data can thus be
centrally compiled and evaluated.
Verification Device
The verification device enables the electromagnetic
flow meters types M2000 and
M5000 to be checked on site in regular
time intervals at a low cost and without
interruption of the process. All important
parameters of the flow meter are
measured, protocoled and evaluated. company
internal quality directives as well as
governmental requirements, can be observed
quickly and without the need for
calibration on external test stands.

Every degree counts – Preserving resources with Badger Meter technology:
Impeller meters in energy management
Approximately 75% of the total energy consumption in a household is used for heating. When heating premises, each celsius or
Fahrenheit degree for the room temperature is reflected in the costs. For just one degree more, heating costs increase by approx.
6%!
Many people are not aware of it in most
cases, heat is produced by a boiler which
is heated by fossil fuels like oil or gas.
The following system solutions help to
optimize the costs in a variety of industrial
applications. cost-effective water
consumption measurement of a boiler
or cooling circuit can be realized with a
Series 200 impeller meter. The temperature
measurement is made using two
temperature sensors.
In building complexes with several apartments,
it is necessary to monitor and
record the energy consumption for each
apartment from one central location. This
can be heating or cooling where cost containment
is paramount. The optimum and
cost-effective solution for monitoring
energy consumption is the Badger Meter
Series 1550 monitoring systems and the
Series 200 flow sensors. The collected
data can then be transmitted to a central
location for billing.
Both small and larger industrial manufacturers
show increasing interest in
monitoring and metering their energy
consumption in order to optimize, verify
or increase the degree of efficiency of
their heating/cooling systems or of their
numerous other energy consuming processes.
The Series 2300 energy meter, in
combination with the Series 200 flow
sensors and the temperature sensors
before and after the water circuit, offer
a suitable system to the industry along
with an ideal cost-benefit ratio for the
monitoring of their specific processes.
Low dead volume pressure control for a high-throughput
Zeolite adsorption testing system
company ILS Integrated Lab Solutions
Gmbh in Berlin, Germany - an independent
engineering and plant construction office
specializing in the design and construction
of fully-automated, customized reaction
systems in the chemical, petrochemical
and pharmaceutical industry - designed a
system for performing high-throughput kinetic
adsorption testing studies on zeolite
powders.
The system is characterized by high-pressures
(250 bars) that result largely from
the very small zeolite powders used (0,1
micron). The small particle size is required
to eliminate pore-volume diffusion effects.
A Badger valve was required, to maintain
the reactants in either the supercritical or
liquid phase downstream of the zeolite
reaction beds. The reactors are microreactors
containing approximately 100-300
milligrams of zeolitic powder. In order to
be able to measure sharp breakthrough
curves using on-line fast liquid Gc, excellent
pressure regulation with a low dead
volume was required.
In addition, implementation of supercritical
media exhibiting strong Joule-Thompson
cooling effects complicates the control
problem. ILS implemented a high-temperature
Badger valve, which was custommade
by Badger using low, dead-volume
1/16” Valco-Vici connectors. This allowed
ILS to construct a system using narrowbore
(0,1mm i.d.) stainless-steel capillaries
with a minimum of dead volume. The
head is mounted in a custom oven in order

to prevent flashing effects and freezing
when operating with supercritical media.
Particularly surprising was the robustness
exhibited by the valve, which is often exposed
to fine zeolitic powders entrained
in the absorbent liquid streams. The valve
has never had to be replaced and has been
in operation for nearly 3 years now.

International Distributor Meeting 2010
Twenty distributors from ten countries met at the international headquarters of Badger
Meter Europa Gmbh in Neuffen, Germany, April 18 – 21, 2010, to learn about new products,
discuss new product developments and share experiences.
New distributors, and / or new employees
of long-term distributors, had the opportunity
at the end of the meeting to participate
in a two-day product training session.
Around 40 distributors worldwide were
expected, but 20 of them could not fly to
Stuttgart because of the volcano ashes. A
second distributor meeting will be organized
for them in November.
We were amazed, however, to welcome
our Saudi Arabian distributor who arrived
in Germany during the dinner even though
the airport had been closed for two days.
They were on a business trip in Europe during
the week and took a taxi from Budapest,
hungary, to Neuffen, Germany! We
would like to express our warm thanks to
Gulf Abram for attending.

Sustainable growth perspectives thanks to globalization
Dear customers and distributors,
Globalization offers both opportunities and
risks. It is essential to use the opportunities
while keeping an eye on the risks. Badger
Meter Europa plans to take advantage
of the global opportunities for sustainable
growth. New markets offer significant
sales potential and successful companies
actively seek the challenge for „Growth”.
We believe that using global opportunities
to generate growth through an efficient
and systematical way is a path to success.
For this to be achieved, concrete targets
and objectives, competent and committed
employees, managers and sales partners
are all equally necessary.
Badger Meter Europa´s objective for the
international sales network is clearly defined.
The objective is to double the current
sales by the end of 2014. The three
product groupings for Badger Meter Europa
– Flow metering, Lube measurement,
Flow control – target different customer
groups. In flow measurement, customers
are divided by market with the corresponding
group segments. To take up this ambitious
challenge and achieve our objective
in a sustainable way, a customized plan
has been worked out. The plan will be
designed to include the individual applications
for Badger Meter´s various products.
Details of the plan will be explained at the
next International Distributor Meeting in
November 2010.
Performance and commitment will be rewarded,
recognized and honored. We will
classify our distributors into three groups,
such as, 1st League, Premium League, and
champions League – definitive classifications
still need to be determined. In a
system where achieving forecast, getting
new customers, and providing feedback
on lost orders to Badger Meter Europa are
vital, these issues will be taken into consideration.
We will make sure that our existing
and new distributors will be able to
achieve in equal measure each of the objectives
of the three classifications. Those
achieving their goals will be honored with
such things as attractive bonuses, awards,
etc.
These clear targets for the three divisions
can only be achieved with active cooperation
of the three divisions and all other
decision makers. The achievement of our
objective – doubling our sales figures by
year end 2014 – should and will be our first
priority in the next few years, defining our
daily actions and negotiations.
We will achieve our objectives step by
step together with our valued distributors
and sales partners.

New organization of the lube department
Mr. helmut Fauser – Power of Attorney and Product Manager of the Lube Measurement
Technology Division – retired on April 30, 2010 after 27 years of employment with Badger
Meter Europa.
The Lube Measurement Technology group
has now been integrated into the Industrial
Flow Metering group managed by Mr.
Jürgen Stix. As Product Manager of flow
meters for industrial applications since
2001, Jürgen Stix has significant experience
and knowledge in various fields of
industrial flow metering. Jens Föhl – formerly
Aftersales Manager – and Markus
Seyfert are now assisting Mr. Stix in the
Lube Measurement Technology Division.

Jens Föhl is responsible for the technical
sales, technical consulting, quotations and
aftersales. In his vacancy, Steffen Nacke
is replacing him. Markus Seyfert is responsible
for system integration and is your

the new team in Frankfurt/Main, Germany
from September 14-19 during the Automechanika
show. helmut Fauser will also be
there September 14 - 16 to say farewell.

As already mentioned, I am now in retirement since April of this year.
I would like to take the opportunity to thank all of you for your trust
and cooperation in the past 27 years. For sure, I will miss my colleagues
and the people with whom I worked. It was always a pleasure to work
with you. I believe it was an interesting and also successful time for
both sides. Whether in the office or on exhibitions, I enjoyed the conversations
we shared and the opinions exchanged. Thank you once again. I
wish you good health as well as a long-lasting and successful association
with Badger Meter Europa. I am sure that my successor Jürgen Stix

Ski and snowboard excursion of
Badger Meter Europa
We again drove a few adventurous, athletic
employees into the Swiss world of ski in
the Flums mountains. After arriving at the
Walensee resort, they checked-in and first
enjoyed a welcome drink. In the morning,
boosted by a good breakfast, they moved
to the slopes. Snow conditions and weather
were fantastic so the group enjoyed
„Good shot“ – Badger Meter at shooting club
You don´t shoot a live pig as the name suggests,
but you shoot small targets laying
down – from a distance of 50 meters. You
need steady hands, a keen eye and strong
nerves. You shoot with small-bore rifles
that make a large noise – not like the toy
guns at a fairground. Everybody can participate
– colleagues or friends. The employees
at Badger Meter Europe have participated
for several years with teams of
3 persons each. Due to perfect teamwork,
we have always finished in the Top 5.
multiple ski runs on the mountain. In addition
to skiing, they enjoyed snowboarding,
sunshine and after-ski relaxation.
The participants were horst and Inge Gras,
Markus Seyfert, Jens Föhl with family,
Sabrina Wagner, Steffen Nacke, Jürgen
Schnizler, christoph heier, kristin klemm
and Sina Müller.
Nearly a tradition, but always a very exciting event, is our participation in the so-called
“pig shooting contest” at a shooting club in a nearby town.
The prizes are motivating and attractive.
The first place winner gets a pig prepared
by the butcher for a nice BBQ with friends
or colleagues. unfortunately we never
reached 1st place because it’s really a
hard contest. But we’ve made 2nd and 3rd
places a few times, which were honored
with a 30-litre bottle of beer and some delicious
picnic food. We keep on shooting
and are sure that we can invite all of our
colleagues to a nice BBQ next year – with
some 30-litre bottles of beer, of course.

kristin klemm finished her three-year apprenticeship
and successfully passed her exam in July. She is working
in the export department together with Andrea Weber,
both assisting Export Manager Sabrina Wagner. In her
function, she issues order acknowledgements, freight
documents, delivery notes and invoices.

Formation time: In the 2nd year
Matthias Griesinger is our first male trainee! he is in
his second year of an apprenticeship as an industrial
clerk and active member of the handball team of TSV
Grabenstetten. he is committed to the association
and trains the young handball team members.
“I have not been at Badger Meter very long, but I enjoy
being actively involved from the very beginning in all
the different departments. This year, I particularly
enjoyed working for the marketing department where
duties are really versatile and creative”.

Badger Meter
Sina Müller is starting her third year apprenticeship as
an industrial clerk. She spends most of her free time
with her horse and is an active member of the riding
association in Neuffen. She trains children in performing
exercises on horseback (vaulting).
„up to now, the department I prefer working for the
most is accounting, because I can use the knowledge
acquired at the trade school“ says Sina. At Badger
Meter, she likes the friendly environment and the
company excursions, which strengthen the employees´
bond. Sina will have her final exams in spring of next
year. We wish her success.
