and Employees,
I am pleased to greet you with this new
issue of Badger Facts. I hope you had a
peaceful holiday season with your families
and friends and wish you all the best
for 2008, especially health, success and
a little bit of good luck.
Last year was a milestone in the history
of Badger Meter Europa GmbH. In April
2007, we moved into our new facility and
in June, we celebrated this event with
a Grand Opening. We received a lot of
compliments from customers, suppliers
and visitors on the architecture and furnishings
of the building. I know that our
employees enjoy their new environment
and that our investment in modern and
flexible workspaces has paid off.
With a sales increase of approximately
13%, Badger Meter Europa GmbH achieved
its goal of record sales in 2007.
For this, I want to thank our customers
for their trust in our company and our
products. We will continue developing
new products for the flow measurement
and control technologies to meet the demand
of the global market. We are well
equipped and prepared to maintain a
leading position as a worldwide supplier
of flow meters and small control valves.
I also want to thank Badger Meter Europa
GmbH employees for their outstanding
performance during 2007. I’m convinced
that together we will achieve our goals
again in 2008 thanks to your motivation,
qualifications and experience to continue
as a reliable partner in flow metering
and flow control for our customers.

Grand Opening Ceremony of Badger Meter
Europa GmbH
Located in Germany outside Stuttgart, Badger Meter Europa GmbH moved into its new
facilities in April 2007. A grand opening celebration was held from June 15-17.
With music provided by the local orchestra,
and proceeds from the sale of food
going to local charities, Badger Meter
Europa GmbH welcomed customers and
townspeople to a tour of the building.
Also in attendance were representatives
from the American Chamber of
Commerce and the architects and tradesmen
who worked on the building´s
renovations.
According to Badger Meter´s Chairman,
President & CEO Rich Meeusen, who
attended the grand opening, "The facility
represents the logical result over
three decades of Badger Meter Europe´s
strong growth, quality products and
excellent service for our international
markets.
The building itself will give us the space
needed for future growth, centralized
training and support, and the proper
image of a world-class organization."
More than 2,000 people attended the
open house. We were complimented on
the bright offices created by large glass
windows that bring in the beauty of the
outdoors, making the facility an inspiring
place to work.
This new facility is a stepping stone for
continued growth of Badger Meter Europa
GmbH.

Monitoring and Recording“
This book is the result of experience
gained from problems encountered
in the practice of flow measurement
& control. The complex issue of flow
metering and controlling of liquids and
gases is explained in detail over 240
pages. The choice for the right metering
technology is determined for the application
and the required accuracy class.
This book presents the important criteria
to all users in a clearly laid-out format
and content, and shows the fundamental,
theoretical differences of the measuring
principles with their advantages and
disadvantages. It deliberately avoided
long, scientific derivations and details
to provide the users with practical support
and important facts, which should
help them as a reference book for the
selection of the best suited flow meter
or control valve.
The authors Horst Gras and Heinz G. Erb
bring more than 35 years experience to

meter
The new meter type LM OGT-HF High Flow
has been designed to measure flows up
to 115 l/m. The meter is modular mounted,
coated, and can dispense fuels, hydrocarbons,
water based fluids, motor oils (S.A.E.
5-50), gear oils (S.A.E. 80-240), coolants
and other similar liquids, as well as special
and aggressive fluids.
The pulse transmitter mounted on the meter
can be connected to batch systems,
remote registers or to other electronic instruments
having the capability of interfacing
with a reedswitch or optocoupler.
Further material combinations are planned
for the future.

New MoniSonic 4800
The new flow meter MoniSonic 4800
is a transit time ultrasonic flow meter
designed for accurate and reliable flow
measurement of ultrasonic conductive
fluids in full pressure pipes from DN 13
to DN 6000.
The meter is suitable for various applications
in water flow measurement, food
& beverage, the semiconductor industry
(pure water measurement and general
utility water measurement), pumping
stations (efficiency improvement of water
lifting pump operation by combining
with inverter), air conditioning industry
(heating/cooling water flow metering),
painting process (especially in the automotive
industry), etc.
With its smaller size than former models,
MoniSonic 4800 has 0.2 seconds highspeed
mode response time.
The new meter has a compact and lightweight
design, anti-bubble performance
and protection class IP66. Measuring temperatures
range from -40°C to +200°C.
The ModBus RTU communication function
is available as an option. PC software
is standard for the configuration of
the flow meter.

H. Hermann Ehlers GmbH was founded in 1865. Since 1945, the company has specialized
in equipment for industrial plants with pumps, measurement instruments and
control systems. Along with Marc Blecker, this third-generation family company now
has four other employees on its payroll.
Located in Bremen, Northern Germany,
H. Hermann Ehlers GmbH is benefiting
since the 1960´s from the best contacts
in the shipyard industry thanks to its proximity
to the ports, providing the company

fuels up to DN 250 and the control of

Deltschev & Sohn Did GmbH celebrates
15th anniversary
Our distributor in Bulgaria, with a complete
flow metering & control technology
program, celebrated its 15th anniversary at
the end of September 2007 with around
60 guests. Badger Meter´s Vice-President
– International Operations Dr. Ing.
Horst Gras presented an award to Managing
Director Dobri Deltschev for the
outstanding sales activities dedicated
to Badger Meter products in the Bulgarian
market.
As a student, Mr. Deltschev already dealt
a lot with flow metering and later taught
fluid mechanics at the University of Plovdiv.
As an official Badger Meter distributor
for 14 years, Deltschev & Sohn has
contributed with their experience and
commitment to sales growth and market
development in Bulgaria. In addition, the
company started recently to distribute
UWT´s level measurement technology.

Like every year for Christmas, we did not send Christmas cards nor presents to our
customers. Instead, and in keeping with our company philosophy, we made donations
to local charitable organizations, schools and single families in need.

Our donation to the church of Martin
Luther-Hof was used to create a garden
for the school for the hearing impaired,
with equipment donated by the Red
Cross, which is a therapeutic project for
disabled children at the Institute Haus
Aichele for Children; the social network
Neuffener Tal; and a worldwide project
for rice cultivators in El Laurel, Ecuador.

With this donation, Badger Meter could
provide financial assistance for the
therapy of a young girl with Down Syndrome.
» Secondary school of Neuffen
With the project ”Roof Overhead”
around 500 pupils get the opportunity
to spend their break outside even when
raining. At the moment, in bad weather,
they crowd into a much too narrow corridor.

Girls´ Day

Badger Meter Badger Meter
For the very first time, Badger Meter
Europa GmbH participated in this national
school project. In cooperation with secondary
schools, the girls and their parents, it
was possible to offer and carry out this
project.
The program is aimed to give teenage
girls exposure to technical professions
and activities, to raise technical interest
and understanding, and reduce apprehension.
All those aspects were approached and
practiced under professional guidance.
The school schedule was replaced by
a work schedule that included work as
well as well-deserved breaks.
On a tour of the company, the girls learnt
about the structure of the various departments.
Departments involved during the Girls´
Day were senior management offices,
production (lube meters and control
valves, goods entry and packaging),
construction of valves (technical design/
drawings) and order processing.
In the export department, the girls could
help in order processing and issuing
freight documents for our international
customers using their knowledge of foreign
languages.

Business trainings at Badger Meter Europa GmbH
Sales growth combined with more space in the new facitlity plus the need for qualified
employees, allowed us to again offer a three-year business training program. Up
until now, we have been successfully qualifying young people for industrial training.
All trainees have been hired after completion of the three-year program. They are
now working in our company in Purchasing, Export, Accounting and Marketing. This
year, we will also focus on office administration. Our new trainees are:

and was accepted for a three-year training program
specializing in office administration.
Why did you choose to carry out your three years of
training at Badger Meter?
„Thanks to the industrial placement, I realized
that administrative activities are more suitable
to my interests. I enjoy working alone on given
projects. I like the international business field
and dealing with English.“

cutting hair of my friends and relatives, sewing

started her 3 years of training on September 7,
2007 specializing in industrial business.
What were the reasons for your choice of industrial training?
„During the year spent in business school after my
secondary school degree, I had clear ideas about
the requirements of industrial training. I am glad
to be able to carry out my three years of training
at Badger Meter as I am quite sure it will meet my
expectations.“

Silke Gaßdorf started on October 15,
2007 as an assembly worker.
Her hobbies: Skiing, cycling, nordic walking,
dancing
Marina Merk for having successfully
passed her exam as an industrial clerk.
Marina was hired after her three years of
training and started working in the Marketing
Department on October 1, 2007 as
marketing support. She is handling the
demo units for exhibitions, processing
claims for our CRM, issuing technical
documentation and PowerPoint presentations,
helping out in advertising and press
releases, customer training and CRM.
