The <strong>Petzl</strong> Foundation provides support to projects all over the world that are run by not-for-profit organizations<br />
working to make a positive impact on our community in three areas:<br />
- safety education<br />
- preserving the environment<br />
- supporting fundamental research<br />
One project among many…<br />
Makay, the last Eden<br />
The Makay massif in Madagascar is one of the last unexplored zones<br />
on the island; it is composed of hundreds of interconnected canyons<br />
and has protected a unique biodiversity for millions of years. In<br />
January 2011, the first scientific mission was led there. Accompanied<br />
by climbers and cavers, the scientists accessed the most remote<br />
and difficult to access areas for study. With over 300 species of<br />
plants collected as a first inventory of its biodiversity, and grave-sites<br />
and rock paintings discovered in its caverns, the scientific results are<br />
significant! To preserve Makay, the association is fighting to obtain<br />
Protected Site status, which would create many jobs in ecology and<br />
tourism. As the major sponsor of the project, the <strong>Petzl</strong> Foundation is<br />
a strong contributor to its success.<br />

Opening the company to the non-business world<br />
I created a foundation in order to engage us in concrete action for the<br />
benefit of our communities. The foundation has not only fulfilled my<br />
goal to open the company to the non-business world, but it has also taught me to<br />
think differently. A foundation gives meaning to the business that is behind it. It's a<br />
choice of the heart, it's our desire to support those who act in everyone's interest<br />
and above all to better serve the community for which we exist.Over 5 years, our<br />
foundation has donated over one million euros to directly support 40 projects.<br />
I am proud and happy about the significant actions that we have been able to<br />
support in these first five years of the foundation. In continuing this commitment,<br />
more extremely motivating projects are already germinating.<br />
