Senior Survey Results Summary<br />
The Career Development Office (CDO) collected information between April 26, 2013 and May 10, 2013 about<br />
the Class of 2013 and their plans after graduation. The survey was voluntary and students could choose<br />
what information they wished to share. 91% of the class responded to the survey. Of the 347 students who<br />
responded, 103 had accepted an offer, 15 had accepted a fellowship, 66 had been admitted to graduate/<br />
professional school, 27 had accepted a service opportunity, 70 were in the midst of their search and had not<br />
accepted an offer, 49 planned to focus on their search after graduation, and 17 planned to travel, volunteer,<br />
and/or continue to explore their options.<br />

Recruiting at <strong>Pomona</strong><br />
The <strong>Pomona</strong> <strong>College</strong> Recruiting Program is national in scope. To broaden the<br />
opportunities for students, the CDO collaborates with peer colleges from across<br />
the country. The CDO is a member of the Selective Liberal Arts Consortium<br />
(SLAC), the Career and Internship Connections consortium (CIC), and the Liberal<br />
Arts Career Network (LACN). Through LACN, the CDO also has access to the<br />
opportunities of the Nationwide Internship Consortium (NIC). These consortia,<br />
coupled with the Claremont <strong>College</strong>s’ joint on-campus recruiting program,<br />
provided students with numerous opportunities including<br />
• Job Postings:<br />
• Access to over 5,180 full-time, post-bac, and internship opportunity<br />
postings in Route 47<br />
• Access to over 12,000 postings from the Liberal Arts Career Network<br />
(LACN)<br />
• Employer Events:<br />
• Over 250 employer informational events hosted at the Claremont <strong>College</strong>s,<br />
including 5 large career fair events<br />
• At these events, 341 unique organizations were represented<br />
• The CDO hosted 67 informational events for employers and graduate<br />
schools on the <strong>Pomona</strong> campus<br />
•On-Campus Interviewing:<br />
• 100 employers hosted interviews on campus specifically for Claremont<br />
<strong>College</strong> students<br />
• The CDO hosted 29 employers for on-campus interviews<br />

Winter Break Recruiting<br />
<strong>Pomona</strong> <strong>College</strong> students were able to participate in the Winter Break Recruiting Program courtesy of the<br />
CDO’s participation in two consortia – the Selective Liberal Arts Consortium and the Career and Internship<br />
Connections consortium. Students interviewed in six cities across the country (Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles,<br />
New York City, San Francisco, and Washington, DC). Based on need, those students who interviewed on the<br />
East Coast were awarded funding to assist with deferring the expense of travel. This funding was provided<br />
through a generous donation from the Efron family.<br />

Summer Internship Funding<br />
This is the third year that the Summer Internship Funding Program has been providing students with awards<br />
for their summer experience. The program awards up to $4,000 for domestic internships and $5,000 for<br />
international internships to students who will take on either unpaid or low paying opportunities.<br />
The goals of the program for students are to<br />
• Gain a rich understanding of a particular field and/or organization<br />
• Have a personalized internship opportunity<br />
• Connect the internship to their career goals/aspirations<br />
• Have access to an internship that could be pivotal in their career development but would be difficult to obtain<br />
without additional funding<br />
Overview<br />
The CDO received over 100 applications from students who had received offers for unpaid or low paying<br />
internships. This is a 15% increase in applicants compared to last year.<br />
Students submitted an application along with a resume and budget explaining their expected expenses. After<br />
all applications were read twice by the Summer Funding Committee, the semi-finalists were chosen to interview<br />
with the Selection Committee that consisted of <strong>Pomona</strong> and CUC staff and faculty. The program has grown<br />
from funding 25 students in the summer of 2012 to funding 47 students in the summer of 2013.<br />
