What can I expect?
Before you get started you’ll go through a 28 day Army
Reserve Recruit Course at the Army Recruit Training
Centre in Kapooka, NSW. During the course, you’ll receive
expert training from some of the Army’s best instructors.
Upon completion you’ll receive a tax free payment of
around $1,800 (this varies each year). After this you
are ready to begin your first apprenticeship or
traineeship placement.
During your placement you’ll be paid the standard trainee
wages by the Registered Training Organisation. Your Army
Reserve unit will also employ you for weeks or months
at a time in your trade where you will learn and work on
Army equipment while being paid tax-free as a Reservist.
Military training with the Army Reserve involves on the job
experience as well as Basic Soldier Skills Training. Expect
up to 150 days of your year to step up a gear! You’ll meet
new mates and be paid for your time. It’s awesome.
Am I eligible?
To be eligible to apply for ARTAP you must:

Be an Australian Citizen
Be aged between 17 and 54
Have passed Year 10 English, Maths
and Science for technical trades
Pass Employer / Registered Training
Organisation assessment
Pass Army general entry assessment.

the Australian Defence Force (ADF) and your employer
and community, so they are encouraged to support you

What is ARTAP?

are there?
What about traineeships?
Why limit your career options with a regular trade
apprenticeship when you can take part in ARTAP.
You’ll be a paid member of the Army Reserve while you
get your qualification and have the choice of a civilian
or a military career at the end of it. Not only will you
learn life and military skills, you’ll also have gained the
experience necessary to decide if Army life is for you
once you finish training.

You’ll be assigned and rotated between placements
at a number of local civilian organisations (Registered

a placement with a registered Mechanic.
