The company "Klaus Hermann Mayer Kraftfahrzeugtechnik 

GmbH" (Ltd.), also known under the 

trademark KHM, was founded in 1977. 

Since then we work on Cabriolets, Roadsters, 

Convertibles and other open Sportscars, also open 

Off-Road-Vehicles, where we mainly do softtops, 

leather seats and carpet sets, all sewn ready for 

installation. In this rather difficult business area we 

are in between one of the worlds market leaders in 

quality, service and assortment. 

Our products: 

Since years we do not only offer high quality tops 

for reasonable prices, but also developed our 

production facilities to offer a flexible response to 

special orders with minimum delay. While we are 

using an up-to-date production equipment, we still 

have not forgotten, that all these high-tech devices 

never will replace solid craftmanship and knowledge 

about all reasonable details. So besides our 

industrial production we have our own trim shop, 

where we daily can check the quality of all our 

products and components and can do current 

corrections or improvements wherever this is 

necessary. So we definitely know, what we are 

offering you and any quality-problems became very 

rare since years. But you never should rely on

Some figures and facts 

Regarding quality 

In former years there were known 2 categories of convertible tops. The expensive ones, individually tailored, 

by the trimmers in a solid quality in workmanship and material and the low budget / low quality ready sewn 

ones, mostly from USA and Italy. 

So the ready sewn top did not have a very good reputation and there had been a lot to improve. 

Since we started in 1977 in this business, we concentrated in combining the price effort of the ready sewn 

top with the quality of the individually tailored top. During the years we developed not only precise patterns 

for nearly all convertible models, we also consequently refined these by daily installations in our own trim 

shop to a perfect fit. Also we tried to eliminate all possibilities to make any mistakes in cutting, sewing and 

finishing our tops. In 1986 we firstly cutted tops with computerized devices with tolerances of less than 

1/10 millimeters. Since then we optimized these processes and introduced it in our production. 

To ensure a continuous quality we are additionally certified according DIN EN ISO 9001:2000. 

So you can expect from our products a standard, which can be compared with the factory made tops and 

sometimes it is even impoved in several details. But if there should be any reason for a complaint, please do 

not hesitate to let us know, because we know very well that we need contact and feedback from our customers 

for any further improvements of our products if this should be necessary. 

One of our main business structures is a solid and faithful relationship to our customers.

Our production facilities offer all the required 

equipments from numeric controlled cutting 

devices to hand operated sewing needle to 

ensure the required results. 

Our stock offers over 3000 softtops, full carpet sets and 

other convertible spareparts for a fast supply. World wide 

delivery can be handled same day, if ordered before 2 p.m. 

(our time). Shipping charges and details can be checked 

for you in advance and amount can be booked off 

comfortably from all major credit cards.

Conclusion: 

From mostly new factory original tops we design our patterns 

for production. The definition of these means not only optimizing 

shapes of the single pieces, but also thread direction of the 

material, drawing of all seams and marks for tension-free sewing 

together of all parts of the top. 

This technology, which we started using already in 1986 is transferred to our cutting machines, and allows 

tolerances of less than 1/10mm (1/250 in.) is not only used for our softtop-production, but also for cutting 

of headliners, hoodbags and carpet sets in the same precision. Further we do several technical textile 

cuttings for industry purposes, mostly for the south German car manufacturers. But all this technology will 

make no sense, if the quality is not controlled. So we have also our own trimshop, where we do daily 

installations of our products on our customers cars from the local area. This allows us, to get better 

wherever it should be necessary.

As soon as a new model is transferred into our 

computer, it will be firstly test-installed in our own 

trimshop and, if necessary, further developed in 

details. So second and even third trials could become 

necessary, before we will add a new model into our 

standard production program. 

With our marking and cutting devices we are not only 

able to work with 1/10 millimeters tolerances, but we 

get also a high flexibility, so that any order can be 

processed within very short times after receipt, which 

will allow very short delivery times. 

This combination of craftmanship hightech and experience will allow us a very good quality for reasonable 

prices, which is confirmed by so many customers, trim shops, re-sellers and enthusiasts all over the world.

Since over 25 years we are known internationally: 

Further to improvements in quality we did not forget 

our environment. 

Softtop materials were not only cut very economical, 

but also larger waste pieces were used for industrial 

purposes, so nearly no waste materials remain.

recycled wherever possible.

Convertible tops 

All tops are ready for installation. Special tools or any sewing are not necessary. The top will always fit to the 

original factory frame. All seams are sealed additionally, the rear windows from polished PVC are in original 

size, will not fade and stay crack-free foldable. Hard glass windows, which are fixed to the top by a rubber seal, 

will have to be re-used. Where adjustment at the car is required, easy to install fixing elements will be supplied. 

Every top will come with installation informations. 

Further we can offer large assortment of installation parts, which normally will be required additionally with the 

installation of a new top, e.g. like tension wires, wooden tack strips, rubber seals. So you always can order 

these together with the top. In most cases we can offer this parts for more attractive prices than you local main 

dealer. 

Because of different qualities in material and workmanship we made different price- and quality categories: 

PVC Standard: 

Solid cotton weave with ourter PVC covering. For British models normally "leather"-grain, fixing elements mostly riveted already to top, 

quality generally better than English original tops. German and Italian models normally with "textile"-grain, correctly crafted, but mostly 

thinner than original toppings. Available in black and tan, for white please add € 21,-. Special colours grey, blue, red, brown, please add 

€ 46,-. 

Cotton Standard: 

Solid cotton backing and outer fabric from 

cotton/artificial fibre mixture, bonded together with 

special rubber. Not very fading proof, will shrink 

over the years. Available in black and tan. 

Original materials: 

Used by the manufacturer for original equipment of the car. Different types and colours, but generally good qualities. Tops directly from 

works supplier or reproduction and detailed from our own production by computerised technology, according original high standards. 

Solid workmanship, no differences in design or used materials guaranteed. Also several old original colours and materials available. Very 

good price/quality relation. No extra charges for all available colours, except PVC white + € 26,-, red + € 57,-. 

US-Acrylic: 

Fading proof American topping material, similar but simplified copy of German "Sonnenland"-fabric, quality of workmanship and fit 

American Standard. Binding mostly only in PVC. 

In black, dark blue, dark brown. Please add for dark tan and burgundy: € 57,-

Sonnenland-Dralon: 

"Sonnenland" is the brand name for a 3-layer, high quality topping. Originally used by Mercedes Benz, Porsche, BMW and other top marques, will 

remain like new for many years. Tops only from our own production, cut, crafted and sewn carefully according original patterns using actual computer 

technology. Inside colour black or tan with wafer-structure. 

Standard colours black 101+134, dark blue 102+135, dark brown 103, pearl beige 104.

Folding sun roof covers in 

many original colours

Complete Carpet sets 

Complete carpet set, exactly tailored to fit, with matching colour 

binding for the whole interior. 

Include main mats, further tunnel and sill covers, rear parcel shelf 

e.t.c. up to 26 parts. All visible edges are bound with colour 

matching vinyl leather. Driver mat has additional welded heel pad. 

For many models also trunk carpets available. We use only special 

automobile carpet materials. These are extremely fading proof, water-, 

petrol- and oil-resistant and have a backing structure, which allows 

humidity from underneath to pass but is stiff enough, not to work loose 

under the drivers feet. This material gets flexible by heating with hot air 

and ca be installed this way much easier. We do not use any ordinary 

"living room carpet" materials, expecially not with latex foam backings. 

These are not enough fading resistant and will also collect humidity by 

condensed water, which will cause fogging of windows and also could 

smell. 

We split our carpets in 7 quality and price categories:

Solid quality, but very good look and extreme mechanical, chemical, dirt and fading resistance, e.g. like special Mercedes 

Velour interior, scotchgard impregnated, including bag for gearshift and handbrake where necessary. High quality 

workmanship and perfect detailing in black and over 100 colours.

During the last 25 years we developed detailed patterns for over 800 

modes and verified these in daily installations in our own trimship. These 

patterns are also loaded in our computer system, so that we can guarantee 

the correct shape of every single carpet piece at any time. Because of the

Genuine leather interiors 

Besides the industrial production of softtops and carpet sets we also do the individual tailoring of real leather interiors 

for restoration and recovering. 

300 SL before 

We never use leather for furniture or clothing, but only original Automotive-quality-leather of the autommobile industry 

suppliers like e.g. Roser or Conolly. The production of these leathers is pcp-free. This means not only quaranteed 

quality with high resistance against sun or humidity, but also no problems, if the same material would be required in 

later years, because the original colours of the manufacturers will stay available for many years. We also manufacture 

seat sides and backs from leather and not from plastic, as well as the pipings around. These will not crack or discolour 

and give you value as if they would have been made from money saving PVC-materials. For seat center sections we can 

offer different perforation patterns, e.g. from Mercedes and Porsche (see below), further patterns are available.

and easy nearly like a sportscar softtop. These 

sets were produced by ourselves, so all our 

experiences in this field will find their way into

which is much mire than the usual standard in 

the 4-wd-market.
