<strong>Selection</strong> <strong>Criteria</strong> <strong>for</strong> Applications <strong>for</strong> Funding <strong>for</strong> <strong>HLTA</strong> <strong>Status</strong><br />
April 2007- March 2008<br />
TDA criteria <strong>for</strong> acceptance <strong>for</strong> Route 1: Preparation (3 Days) + Assessment<br />
This route is designed <strong>for</strong> those who are ready to be assessed against the Standards.<br />
Please read the updated publications: ‘Guidance to the Standards’ 2006 and the ‘Handbook <strong>for</strong><br />
Candidates’ 2006 which are available to view at<br />

1. TAs must be able to meet all 31 Standards. (See ‘Guidance to the Standards’)<br />
2. TAs must have a qualification in English/Literacy AND Mathematics/Numeracy equivalent<br />
to at least Level 2 of the National Qualifications Framework eg GCSE A*-C, GCE ‘O’<br />
Level or CSE Grade 1or Adult Literacy and Numeracy Level 2. See ‘Literacy and<br />
Numeracy Requirements’ leaflet.<br />

NB. Actual certificates and marriage certificate (where appropriate) will be required by the<br />
training provider on Day 1 of the Preparation as proof of qualification and to verify name<br />
changes.<br />
Routes 2, 3, 4,5 and 6: Training (Variable) and Preparation + Assessment<br />
These are longer routes and will offer training around the Standards as well as the Preparation and<br />
Assessment. These routes are <strong>for</strong> TAs who are very nearly able to meet all the Standards, but<br />
require further training opportunities or to gain confidence. Different training options will be<br />
offered over the year.<br />
TDA criteria <strong>for</strong> acceptance <strong>for</strong> Routes 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6:<br />
As above: TAs must have a qualification in English/Literacy AND Mathematics/Numeracy<br />
equivalent to at least Level 2 of the National Qualifications Framework eg GCSE A*-C, GCE ‘O’<br />
Level or CSE Grade 1.<br />
In addition, <strong>for</strong> all routes, to qualify <strong>for</strong> LA funding, we will seek evidence of the following:<br />
• Head teacher’s Section of Part 2 of the Application Form must have been completed in full.<br />
• Have shown a commitment to professional development by undertaking further<br />
qualifications eg<br />
o 1. NVQ2 or CACHE Level 2 Certificate or City and Guilds in Learning Support<br />
o 2. NVQ3 or CACHE Level 3 Certificate<br />
o 3. Foundation Degree or accredited qualification at Higher Education Level 1 or 2<br />
(eg CPPLS, CAPPLS or CEP)<br />
o 4. Degree<br />
• Have at least two years’ experience in supporting teaching and learning.<br />
• Have shown a commitment to professional development by taking part in other training<br />
• Photocopies of the Level 2 equivalent qualifications must be included with the application.<br />
• Have worked with pupils in:<br />
o English,<br />
o Mathematics,<br />
o ICT,<br />
o Science<br />
o Special Educational Needs
• In past six months have worked with whole classes (see ‘Guidance to the Standards’ 3.3.5<br />
<strong>for</strong> definition and examples.)<br />
• Have guided the work of other adults (see ‘Guidance to the Standards’ 3.3.6 <strong>for</strong> definition<br />
and examples.)<br />
Applicants will be granted funding <strong>for</strong> one training route and are expected to attend all sessions. If<br />
candidates are unable to complete through to assessment, they should contact the Local Authority<br />
representative immediately.<br />
Qualifying applications will be recorded on a waiting list in order of date of receipt and<br />
funding will be allocated on a first come first served basis from this waiting list to those who<br />
meet the selection criteria.
