Instrumental Tuition for the Academic Year 2OO9-2O7O<br />
The Colleg employs a group of highly qualified instrumental and singing teachers to provide<br />
musical tuition for those students who request it.<br />
Tuition is offered on woodwind, strings, brass, voice, guitarand percussion. Unfortunately,<br />
piano tuition is not available. The 30 minute lessons will take place in students'study periods,<br />
after the end of the <strong>College</strong> day or during the lunch hour and will be arranged on an individual<br />
basis. Please note that this is a commitment for the whole academic year and that<br />
no refunds can be given other than in exfelljOllal circumstances.<br />
The cost of lessons will be the same as last vear at €19.33 oer half hour session and we<br />
guarantee a total of 30 half hour sessions during the academic year. As the <strong>College</strong> has to<br />
contract with its instrumental teachers to provide tuition for the complete academic year, it<br />
will be necessary to ask you to pay the full amount of €580,00 by the booking date of 16th<br />
June 2009.<br />

At this early stage, we cannot pTomise that the lessons will take place; this will depend on the<br />
interest shown by students. Needless to say, your cheque would be returned iftuition could<br />
not be arranged. If you would like your daughter/son to have instrumental or singing tuition at<br />
<strong>Hills</strong> <strong>Road</strong>, please complete and return the attached reply slip by Tuesday 16rh June 2009.<br />

STRINGS<br />
Violin/Violar Penny Veryard - Penny studied at the Royal <strong>College</strong> of<br />
!1usic with Jaroslav Vanecek and has been teaching violin and viola for<br />
nearly 30 years, She also runs the Quartet Club of Cambridge which offers<br />
a variety of coaching for string players. She performs as a professional<br />
freelance violist and has played with a number of ensembles including the<br />
London llozart Players and the Orchestra of the Age of the Enlightenment.<br />
Cellor Philippa Jones - Phllippa studied at the Dartington <strong>College</strong> of Arts<br />
and Rolle <strong>College</strong> Exmouth and has been teaching cello in Cambridge for<br />
30 years. She has coached on numerous orchestral courses including<br />
National Childrens'Orchestra and the Cambridge County Youth Orchestra.<br />
She performs regularly in local venues both as a cellist and as a singer.<br />
WOODWIND<br />
Fluter Nicola Smedley - Nicola studied at the Royal Academy of tvtusic and<br />
has been teaching flute for 6 years. She is currently working in a number<br />
of schools across the region, including St James School (Kensington) and<br />
Canford Schooi (Dorset), She is a freelance performer and has recently<br />
worked with the BBC Concert Orchestra, BBC Symphony Orchestrand<br />
the Orchestra of the Roval Ooera House.<br />
Recorderr Ferdia Stone-Davis - F6rdia studied at Cambridge University<br />
and Trinity <strong>College</strong> of Music and has been teaching recorder for 3 years,<br />
She teaches privately as well as at the Perse Saturday Morning<br />
Community Music School. She performs in a number of early music<br />
groups and is also an academic researching into early music, theology and<br />
aesthetics.<br />
Oboer Penny Smith - Penny has just graduated from Trinity <strong>College</strong> of<br />
lvlusic and has been teaching oboe and violin for 6 years. She is currently<br />
teaching in a number of schools in London, and is seeking to balance<br />
teaching with a freelance performing career.<br />
Clarinet/Saxophone: Trevor Barlow - Trevor studied at the Colchester<br />
Institute and Reading University and has been teaching clarinet and<br />
saxophone in Cambridgeshire for 25 years. He is currently Head of<br />
Woodwind for Cambridgeshire Music and directs the Cambridgeshire Youth<br />
Wind Orchestrand Cambridge Youth Jazz Orchestra, He also maintains a<br />
prolific classical and jazz performing career alongside his teaching<br />
commitments.
Bassooni Llinos Owen - Llinos studied at Cambridge University and the<br />
Royal Academy of Music and has been teaching bassoon for 5 years. She<br />
is currently teaching in a number of Cambridge schools and coaches the<br />
Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Youth Orchestra wind section. She also<br />
works as a freelance performing musician and is currently a member of<br />
the Southbank Sinfoniand has recentlv Derformed with the BBC National<br />
Orchestra of Wales.<br />
BRASS<br />
Upper Brass: Stuart Dodgson - Stuart studied at Cambridge University<br />
and the Welsh <strong>College</strong> of Music and Drama and has been teaching a<br />
variety of brass instruments for 8 years. He is currently working for<br />
Hertfordshire Music Service and combines this with a freelance performing<br />
career playing natural trumpet with ensemblesuch as the Welsh Baroque<br />
Orchestrand English Pro Musica.<br />
Lower Brass: Mark Townend - lvlark studied at the Roval Academv of<br />
Music and has been teaching brass for 20 years. He is currently teaching<br />
at a variety of schools including the Perse School (Cambridge) and for<br />
Hertfordshire Music Service, He coaches ensemble work ln a number of<br />
schools as well as for the Hertfordshire Schools' Symphony Orchestra, and<br />
combines regular freelance performing with his teaching work. f4ost<br />
recently he has worked with the BBC Symphony Orchestrand the<br />
Orchestra of the Roval ODera House,<br />
GUITAR<br />
Guitan Bruce Cameron - Bruce studied at the School of Slavonic and East<br />
European Studies and received guitar tuition at The Guildhall School of<br />
Music. He has been teachin guitar for 10 years in schools and colleges as<br />
well as privately. He offers lessons in Rock and Pop, Acoustic, Classical,<br />
Flamenco, Bossa Nova and Jazz with grades possible in Rock, Classical or<br />
Acoustic styles. He is also a professional Jazz Saxophonist.<br />
Guitari Stefano Kalonaris - Stefano studied at the State Academy of<br />
Music l4ascagni (Livorno, Italy) and the Guildhall School of lvlusic and<br />
Drama and has been teaching for 6 years. He is currently teaching in a<br />
number of schools in the region including St Paul's School (London) and<br />
the Latymer Upper School (London). He offers lessons in a number of<br />
styles encompassing Western and World traditions. He is a member of a<br />
number of Latin-American performingroups.<br />
Bass Guitarr Paul Reynolds - Paul studied at Kingston University and has<br />
been teaching the bass guitar for 7 years. He currently teaches privately<br />
and as a facilitator for a variety of local music couTses. He combines his<br />
teaching with a freelancing performing career, which has included P&O<br />
cTuises as well as a number of jazz and rock bands in the eastern region.<br />
Drum kit & Orchestral Percussion: Richard Elsworth - Ric studied at<br />
the Royal <strong>College</strong> of Music and has been teaching for 4 years. He is<br />
currently teaching at a variety of schools including the Perse (Cambridge),
He was finalist in the 2004 BBC Young Musician of the Year and continues<br />
to have an active performing career alongside his teaching. Recent<br />
professional engagements have lncluded performances with the Halle<br />
Orchestrand the Europa Orchestra.<br />
VOICE<br />
Julia Caddick - Julia studied at Cambridge University and the London<br />
Institute of Education and has been teaching for 26 years. She teaches in<br />
a number of Cambridgeshire schools including Sawston Vlllage <strong>College</strong><br />
and Parkside, and has until recently been Head of Vocal Studles for<br />
Cambridgeshire lVusic. She has been teaching singing at <strong>Hills</strong> <strong>Road</strong> for 10<br />
years, speclalising in Classical and Musical Theatre singing. Pupils of hers<br />
have gone on to have professional careers in West End musicals, opera,<br />
and oratorio. Julia also greatly enjoys teaching singing for pleasurel<br />
lvlarie-Cecile Henderson - lVarie-Cecile studied at Newcastle<br />
Conservatorium of Music (Australia) and The University of Sydney<br />
Conservatorium of Music (Australia) and has been teaching for 20 years.<br />
<strong>Form</strong>erly Head of Vocal Studies at the Tamworth Regional Conservatorium<br />
of Nlusic she moved to the UK in 2008. She teaches in a number of<br />
Cambridgeshire schools and colleges and also directs youth choirs (St<br />
Mary's Cambridge). She is equally at home with Classical and tvtusical<br />
theatre stylesl<br />
Sarah Clark - Sarah studied at Bath City <strong>College</strong> and the Guildford School<br />
of Acting and has been teaching for 8 years. She teaches in a number of<br />
Cambridgeshire and Essex schools as well as for Pure Rhythm School of<br />
Performing Arts. A specialist in Musicai Theatre, she has worked as a<br />
performer in London's West End, including Les Miserables and as a<br />
director locally with groups such as Saffron Walden N4usical Theatre<br />
Company. She is also a trained actress and has performed in a number of<br />
shows in theatres across the country.
