Less is More: Small Works in a Great Space (A Mitchell Gallery National Juried Exhibition), thru June 19. This exhibition will include the work of artists from the United States and Puerto Rico. Jurors Joann Moser (senior curator of Graphic Arts at the Smithsonian American Art Museum) and Jack Rasmussen (director and curator at the American University Museum at the Katzen Arts Center) will select two- and three-dimensional works in all media, including jewelry and small sculpture. Elizabeth Myers Mitchell Art Gallery, cont. Karl Schrag: Memories and Premonitions (organized by Syracuse University Art <strong>Galleries</strong>), August 23 – October 17. The first major examination of the Karl Schrag's work since his death in 1995 includes 70 original works by the influential artist, including paintings, prints and drawings. Schrag’s art career spanned more than 60 years, and he had strong ties to the New York City art scene. After studying at the Art Students League, he joined S.W. Hayter's prestigious printmaking studio Atelier 17, working alongside artists Miró, Chagall, and Jackson Pollock. Schrag was named director of the Atelier in 1950 and later began a long teaching career at Cooper Union, where he taught drawing and graphic arts from 1954-1968. Schrag’s art conveys his ability to see the landscape as if for the first time, the surprise of that special view, the recognition of his ability to feel wonder when looking at nature or figures, and the reward associated with seeing the world through his eyes. As stated by Schrag, “While I believe that the outward appearance of nature is but the shell of a deeper and richer inside world that I wish to understand, I also know that the forms of art are in their infinite relationships charged with profound meanings.” " Maryland Federation of Art Gallery on the Circle 18 State Circle, 410-268-4566 Tuesday thru Sunday 11am - 5pm www.mdfedart.com Eye of the Beholder: Fine Art of the Found Object, thru June 23. Juried Exhibition of artwork by MFA members and/ or Maryland residents will feature a board array of 2-D and 3-D media. The juror Dan Mills, Director of the Bates College of Art, selected the show to incorporate the quality of the artwork submitted. The show will be held at the Art Gallery at the University of Maryland, College Park. Awards presented June 28, 7 pm at THE ART GALLERY 1202 Art-Sociology Building, University of Maryland, College Park. June 28 – July 21: Cool + 2: Emerging Artist Exhibition. All forms of 2-D and 3-D artwork, installation and video considered. Juror David Page, Senior Adjunct faculty Corcoran College of Art + Design selects 10 artists, 35 and under, to display a body of work, or signature piece. The juror will consider all forms of 2-D, 3-D, installation and video. July 25- August 18: MFA Celebrates 50! Exhibition of work by current and former MFA members. MFA is celebrating our 50th Anniversary with a special exhibition for all current and former members. This exhibition will feature artworks in a variety of media. The opening reception will be held to celebrate MFA and all the dedicated artists that have brought MFA to the thriving visual arts organization that it is today!
