decided to run into the burning building before the fire department
arrived.
“We weren’t even thinking. We just ran in there,” Jamaul
[Jay’s brother] told a newspaper reporter the day after the fire….
“It just felt like the right thing to do.” Apparently, a lot of local
people, including the members of CID 54, thought so.
The Township honored all three brothers, Jay, Jamaul, and
Justin, for their bravery. Jay not only received the award from
the KWVA, but he earned the Air Force Junior ROTC’s Gold
Valor Award as well. That is described as the equivalent of the
Medal of Honor of the Air Force Junior ROTC.
Congresswoman Kirsten Gillibrand (20th District NY), recognized
our Chapter for the diligent work we did lobbying her
We also told her that Clara Norris, widow of founder Bill
Norris, was in her Congressional District, and it was important
for her to recognize Clara on behalf of her husband.
