Members attended the dedication of <strong>Veterans</strong> Memorial Park<br />

at the geysers in Saratoga Springs on <strong>May</strong> 1, 2010. The Ballston<br />

American Legion and Saratoga Springs Fire Department participated.<br />

Jim Smith, a veteran of the battle for Iwo Jima, threw out the<br />

first pitch. Jamie Delaney, Alex Torkleson, and Lauren Fogarty,<br />

students at Saratoga Catholic Central High School, sang the<br />

national anthem.<br />

The event preceded the Central Catholic vs. Hudson High<br />

School baseball game<br />

A moment of silence was observed with a rifle salute and the<br />

playing of “Taps.”<br />

The naming was approved by the Saratoga Springs city council<br />

at its April 21, 2009 meeting.<br />

The guest speaker at our April meeting was Don Tyne,<br />

Director of <strong>Veterans</strong> Affairs for Linn County, IA. We met at the<br />

Amvets Club in Cedar Rapids.<br />

He brought the chapter up to date on new regulations and procedures<br />

available to them.<br />
