Coppersmith & Long<br />
Two old friends, Walter F. Coppersmith Jr., of<br />
Aberdeen, MD, and Robert D. Long, of Huachuca City,<br />
AZ, got together at Exit 32 off I-10 in Arizona. They had<br />
not seen each other for 52 years.<br />
Coppersmith and Long served together at Stewart Air<br />
Force Base [TN] in 1949-51 and at Camp Lindsey,<br />
Weisbaden, Germany, in 1951-52. Long is a retired Chief<br />
Master Sgt. (USAF). Coppersmith, a retired Postmaster,<br />
served from 1948-52, rising from Pvt. to SSgt.<br />
Coppersmith, the historian of Chapter 271, Aberdeen<br />
[MD], found Long while searching the Internet. So, since<br />
he and his son were traveling from San Jose, CA, to Round<br />
Rock, TX, they arranged a meeting.<br />

Members of the 2nd Ranger Inf. Co. (Airborne) met in<br />
October 2005 in St. Louis, MO. The company served in Korea in<br />
1950-51, attached to the 7th Inf. Div. It was also attached to the<br />
187th Airborne Regimental Combat Team for the combat jump<br />
at Munsan-Ni, Korea, on March 23, 1951.<br />
The 2nd Rangers was the only all-Black Airborne Ranger<br />
Company in the U.S. Army. It was awarded the <strong>Korean</strong><br />
Presidential Unit Citation, 4 battle stars, and 1 Spearhead Arrow.<br />
