Heavy Mortar Co., 5th RCT<br />

Members of the Heavy Mortar Co., 5th RCT held their tenth—and<br />

last—reunion <strong>in</strong> October 2008 at Louisville, KY.<br />

As Carl Canon expla<strong>in</strong>ed, “The 5th RCT landed <strong>in</strong> Pusan, Korea on July<br />

31, 1950, and served <strong>in</strong> Korea until the end of the war. We would have 40<br />

to 45 men come to the earlier Heavy Mortar Co. M<strong>in</strong>i-Reunions, but only<br />

seven were able to attend <strong>in</strong> October 2008. Because of illness and deaths<br />

we have decided that this will be our last reunion.”<br />

Four of the attendees, Carl Canon, Orla Fent, Jay Copley and Jack<br />

Colbert, were <strong>in</strong> the orig<strong>in</strong>al Heavy Mortar Company deployed from<br />

Schofield Barracks, Hawaii <strong>in</strong> 1950.<br />
