<strong>Christmas</strong> <strong>decorations</strong> <strong>Demonstration</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>workshop</strong><br />

On a very damp Friday 14 December a large number of Garden Club members<br />

<strong>and</strong> others attended the now traditional demonstration <strong>and</strong> <strong>workshop</strong> on<br />

<strong>Christmas</strong> wreaths <strong>and</strong> <strong>decorations</strong>, given as always by ex-member of Garden<br />

staff, <strong>and</strong> highly-qualified florist, Gemma Welton.<br />

Meeting in the Horticultural <strong>workshop</strong> the Garden Club was given an fascinating<br />

<strong>and</strong> informative demonstration of ways to use evergreen plant material, pine<br />

cones <strong>and</strong> other items to make beautiful table <strong>decorations</strong> <strong>and</strong> door wreaths for<br />

<strong>Christmas</strong>. After this everyone was able to make their own <strong>decorations</strong>,<br />

assisted by Gemma, <strong>and</strong> with input from Stan Rawlings, <strong>Lackham</strong>’s Head<br />

Gardener.<br />

The meeting also included tea <strong>and</strong> coffee <strong>and</strong> to mark the festive season mince<br />

pies, some of them kindly made <strong>and</strong> brought in by Club members, were also<br />

available.<br />

After everyone was happy with their <strong>decorations</strong> a raffle was held <strong>and</strong> the<br />

prizes of mince pies. <strong>Christmas</strong> plants including Poinsettias <strong>and</strong> Cyclamen (also<br />

available to buy from the Gardens) formed some of the prizes for the Raffle .<br />

Also included were two of the br<strong>and</strong> new <strong>Lackham</strong> Calendars which had only<br />

arrived the day before! (These can also be purchased from the College)


The 2013 programme of talks for the Garden Club was also distributed, this can<br />

be found on the Garden Club pages of the <strong>Lackham</strong> website, at<br />

http://www.lackham.co.uk/garden/.<br />

Concluding a productive <strong>and</strong> happy afternoon Stan thanked Gemma for her<br />

wonderful presentation, which was echoed by the entire meeting.<br />

The next meeting will be held on Friday March 8 th at 2.00pm when Carl Gill,<br />

(Curriculum Manager - L<strong>and</strong>based Horticulture, Floristry & Foundation Studies,<br />

Wiltshire College <strong>Lackham</strong>) will be giving a talk <strong>and</strong> demonstration on the<br />

preparation <strong>and</strong> production of baskets <strong>and</strong> containers ready for Spring<br />

Poinsettias, Xmas bowls <strong>and</strong> Cyclamen may be ordered, for collection by Friday<br />

December 21 st , by contacting the Gardens on 01249 466849 or emailing Stan at<br />

Stan.Rawlings@wilts.ac.uk. Calendars are available for longer <strong>and</strong> can be<br />

ordered in the same way.<br />
