Garden Club meetings 2013 schedule - Lackham Countryside Centre

GARDEN CLUB MEETINGS / WORKSHOPS
AT LACKHAM 2013
For over a quarter of a century Lackham has been proud to be host to “Garden
Club”, organising monthly meetings/demonstrations in order to bring together
likeminded individuals with a passion for gardening, both the novice and the more
experienced. Several years ago our link with Whitehall Garden Centre was
strengthened when the “Lackham Monthly Garden Club” joined with the now
hugely successful Whitehall Garden Club.
We are pleased to announce that there will be FIVE events held at Lackham
during 2013. There will be a small charge for each event; we have retained the
tradition of offering refreshments and a prize draw ticket as part of the overall
cost. The charge for each meeting/workshop covers materials and refreshment.
Prize draw “gifts” are supplied by Whitehall Garden Centre and Lackham; sincere
thanks go to Whitehall for their continued generous support.
Please note: meetings/workshops are, as usual, on the second Friday in the
month.
Stan Rawlings (Head Gardener, Wiltshire College Lackham) will spearhead the
Garden Club events at Lackham.
ALL MEETINGS/WORKSHOPS ARE AT 1.45 PM FOR A 2PM START, WITH
A 4PM APPROXIMATE FINISH
1. Friday 8 th March 2013 –
Carl Gill, Curriculum Manager Horticulture, Floristry and Foundation
Studies at Wiltshire College, will present a talk and demonstration on the
preparation and production of Spring Baskets and Containers for colour.
Cost £4.00 inclusive of tea/coffee/biscuits and a prize draw ticket payable on
the door
2. Friday 17 th May 2013 – please note this is the third Friday of the
month to avoid Malvern Show dates
Fred Gillam will give a talk on the Medical History of the Plants in the Royal
Botanic Garden, Bath.
Cost £4.00 inclusive of tea/coffee/biscuits and a prize draw ticket payable on
the door

3. Friday 12 th July 2013 –
Gordon Maskery will give a talk entitled Invasive Plants and Weeds - Friend or
Foe - how to control them
. A subject close to the heart of all gardeners

4. Friday 11 th October 2013 – ‘
Chris Allen – ‘Cutting Edges for Gardeners - a brief history’
Chris Allen, Editor of The Gardening Times.com takes a look into the past at some
pioneering developments in the world of growing plants and gardening and asks what
might happen next.
There will be plenty to look at in this most interesting, interactive and informative
presentation by a leading professional horticulturist, lecturer, writer and hands on
gardener.
Chris Allen’s talk called ‘Amazing Plants’ has been well received by audiences around the
country for several years with many requests for return visits, this new talk promises to
be equally enlightening and well received.

5. Friday 13 th December 2013 –
Gemma Welton - Xmas decorations workshop
Our traditional Christmas meeting with Gemma demonstrating beautiful floristry
decorations to make for the Christmas season
Cost £5.00 inclusive of tea/coffee/mince pie and a prize draw ticket
payable on the door
