<strong>2008</strong> SEASON IN REVIEW<br />

LaGrange College finished a very successful <strong>2008</strong> season with a 25-20 record. The Panthers became the first LaGrange team<br />

<strong>to</strong> win back-<strong>to</strong>-back Great South Athletic Conference <strong>to</strong>urnament titles. The Panthers went through the <strong>GSAC</strong> <strong>to</strong>urnament undefeated,<br />

beating <strong>to</strong>p-seeded Piedmont 7-6 with a dramatic comeback. The Panthers became only the second LaGrange team <strong>to</strong><br />

receive back-<strong>to</strong>-back <strong>NCAA</strong> national <strong>to</strong>urnament bids. The Panthers defeated Emory 2-1 in the Fayetteville, N.C. regional for<br />

the school’s first win by a team in an <strong>NCAA</strong> <strong>to</strong>urnament.<br />

HEAD COACH JENNIFER CLAYBROOK<br />

Jennifer Claybrook completed her sixth season as the<br />

Panthers' head coach. In <strong>2008</strong>,<br />

Claybrook guided the Panthers <strong>to</strong> their<br />

second straight <strong>GSAC</strong> <strong>Champions</strong>hip<br />

<strong>Tournament</strong> title and a berth in the<br />

<strong>NCAA</strong> Division III national <strong>to</strong>urnament.<br />

The Panthers finished the season 25-<br />

20, their fifth winning in the six years<br />

Claybrook has been head coach.<br />

Claybrook served as an assistant for<br />

two years before being named head<br />

coach in 2003. In six years, the<br />

Panthers are 155-109 under Claybrook,<br />

who has the most career wins by a<br />

Panther head coach during the fastpitch<br />

era.<br />

The Panthers have produced six<br />

United States Collegiate Athletic<br />

Association All-Americans, four <strong>NCAA</strong><br />

South All-Region selections and 22<br />

<strong>GSAC</strong> All-Conference selections since<br />

Claybrook became coach. The Panthers<br />

also have three <strong>GSAC</strong> Player of the<br />

Year awards and a <strong>GSAC</strong> Pitcher of the Year award.<br />

In 2006, the Panthers were 32-11 under Claybrook. It was<br />

the most wins by the Panthers since becoming an <strong>NCAA</strong><br />

Division III member. The Panthers ranked nationally in all 11<br />

statistical categories kept by the <strong>NCAA</strong>, the first LaGrange<br />

College athletic team <strong>to</strong> do so. Claybrook was named the<br />

<strong>GSAC</strong> Coach of the Year for the second time.<br />

ASSISTANT COACH<br />

In her first season, Claybrook guided the Panthers <strong>to</strong> a 25-17<br />

overall record and the <strong>GSAC</strong> regular season<br />

championship. The Panthers were runner-ups<br />

in the conference <strong>to</strong>urnament and the USCAA<br />

National <strong>Champions</strong>hip <strong>Tournament</strong>.<br />

Claybrook has been in the athletic department<br />

for 11 years, first as a student-athlete, as an<br />

assistant coach and now as head coach. She<br />

has also served as assistant volleyball coach for<br />

four years and as an assistant coach for basketball.<br />

A Fayetteville, Ga. native, Claybrook was a<br />

four-time Georgia-Alabama-Carolina all-conference<br />

selection in softball and named <strong>to</strong> the<br />

NFCA First Team South All-Region team in<br />

2000. She was a member of the first basketball<br />

team when the program was restarted in 1999.<br />

Claybrook was a NFCA Scholar Athlete and a<br />

three-time NAIA Academic All-American. She<br />

received the school's Eagle Award, while compiling<br />

a 3.84 grade point average.<br />

Claybrook graduated magna cum laude with a<br />

degree in Middle Grades Education and also<br />

has earned a master’s degree in Middle Grades Education from<br />

LaGrange.<br />

In addition <strong>to</strong> her coaching duties, Claybrook serves as an<br />

advisor for the LaGrange College chapter of the Fellowship of<br />

Christian Athletes.<br />

She is married <strong>to</strong> Jim Claybrook and they have a son, J.J.<br />

He has had seven former players <strong>to</strong><br />

play at LaGrange; including two of his<br />

daughters, Jennifer and Jessica.<br />

He and his wife, Irene, have five children;<br />

Courtney, Jennifer, Clin<strong>to</strong>n,<br />

Clay<strong>to</strong>n and Jessica. He has been a<br />

small business owner in Atlanta for 32<br />

years.<br />

the National Athletic Trainers' Association<br />

Board of Certification and licensed by the<br />

state of Georgia.<br />

Dicks, a native of Augusta, Ga., is married<br />

<strong>to</strong> the former La'Shanda Collins and<br />

they have two daughters, Zykeria and<br />

Zakiya.<br />
