Presidents Message:<br />
Hi Fellow Optimists,<br />
I hope that everyone had a very happy Valentine’s Day celebrating it with that special someone<br />
and also that your Family Day was awesome.<br />
Our Pot Luck dinner was held on Tuesday, February 7 th . <strong>The</strong>re was lots <strong>of</strong> food with many<br />
different dishes. We had 15 Optimists out for the dinner and 1 guest. It was an awesome night.<br />

We did a Customer Appreciation Day at McPherson’s on Valentine’s Day. From 6:00 a.m. to<br />
11:00 a.m. customers enjoyed a c<strong>of</strong>fee on the Optimist Club. <strong>The</strong>y sold 56 c<strong>of</strong>fee and tea <strong>of</strong><br />
various sizes. It was a great day!<br />
<strong>The</strong> Meat Draw was held at Grogs on Saturday, February 18 th . <strong>The</strong>y had a great day with a small<br />
crowd. I would like to thank my volunteers for that day who included new members Tony and<br />
Karen Puzara plus Larry Marshall, Debbie Huxley and Jim Waite. You did an awesome job and<br />
made $212.00 for the <strong>club</strong>!<br />
We had our breakfast on Sunday, February 19 th . <strong>The</strong>re was lots <strong>of</strong> bacon, eggs, pancakes,<br />
sausage, homefries, toast, fruit, c<strong>of</strong>fee and juice. We had 12 Optimists out for this plus 4 guests<br />
along with 2 children. It was an amazing morning. I would like to thank my volunteers who<br />
cooked – Jim Waite, Derek Scott, Larry Marshall, Debbie Huxley and Lorie Scott.<br />
On behalf <strong>of</strong> the Optimist Club <strong>of</strong> Ausable Port Franks I would like to wish everyone who had a<br />
birthday in January and February a very, very happy belated birthday. To those who have a<br />
birthday in March – Happy, Happy Birthday!<br />

Upcoming Events – Help wanted! If you are able and willing to volunteer at any <strong>of</strong> our<br />
events please let the Optimist in charge know (it is never too early to call and <strong>of</strong>fer). This<br />
makes the job <strong>of</strong> the Chair a lot easier. We should all help out with at least one or two<br />
events per year.<br />
Meat Raffle – March 17, 2012 – Be Irish and wear your Green!<br />
Grogs Restaurant from 2 pm to 4pm<br />
A strip <strong>of</strong> tickets for 24 draws is $10.00. Prizes include meat, eggs, lottery tickets and various<br />
gift prizes. We also hold a 50/50 draw at a cost <strong>of</strong> 3 tickets for $5.00. If you cannot attend then<br />
perhaps you can get money to Sherry to purchase tickets on your behalf!<br />

Ausable Port Franks Spelling Bee:<br />
We are hosting a Spelling Bee on March 1 st with Tracy Huxley in charge. Registration is at 6:30<br />
and the event starts at 7:00 pm.<br />
Zone Spelling Bee:<br />
Our <strong>club</strong> is hosting this on March 21, 2012 with Optimist Tracy Huxley in charge –<br />
tchux@execulink.com. Registration at 6:30 and start time is 7:00 pm.<br />
Easter Egg Hunt:<br />
This attracts a lot <strong>of</strong> children each year! Aaron Pedlar is chairing this event -<br />

Italian Night – April 14 th !<br />
This is a major fundraiser for the <strong>club</strong> and needs full sup<strong>port</strong> <strong>of</strong> our membership. <strong>The</strong> Huxley<br />
family is in charge <strong>of</strong> this event – contact Ron at – hux@execulink.com. <strong>The</strong> date is sneaking up<br />
– April 14 th ! Please let Ron know if you have donations for the raffle tables. It is hoped that<br />
each member would contribute 2 prizes. Talk it up among your friends so we have another sellout!<br />
Tickets are the same as last year - $27 per person.<br />
Much Music Dance:<br />
<strong>The</strong> Crediton and District Optimist Club and others, including our Club are hosting a Much<br />
Music Dance on April 27 th . Members are needed to help. Please contact Janet Waite –<br />
jimmyjan@execulink.com by March 2 nd if you can assist.<br />
Tea Room – Poinsettia Tour:<br />
This is held the weekend <strong>of</strong> October 13 and 14, 2012. We are still in need <strong>of</strong> someone to Chair<br />
this event which is another major fundraiser!<br />
Manor Birthday Party:<br />
Gladys Shaw continues to help the residents celebrate birthdays one afternoon each month. She<br />
needs people who possibly can play a musical instrument, sing or can just shake a tail feather<br />
with the residents. Please contact Gladys if you have something to <strong>of</strong>fer during this celebration –<br />

We are always looking for new members. Aaron Pedlar will call new members to make them<br />
feel welcome and wanted. He will talk to them about what they might like to do in the <strong>club</strong> as<br />
members.<br />

Upcoming Meetings:<br />
All members are encouraged to try and attend these meetings and you are welcome to<br />
bring a guest!<br />
Dinner meetings are normally held the first Tuesday <strong>of</strong> each month in the Community<br />
Centre main hall. March 6 th is the next dinner meeting and it is Pot Luck. Please advise<br />
Janet Waite by March 4 th if you are coming. <strong>The</strong> April dinner meeting is on April 3 rd .<br />
Breakfast meetings are the third Sunday <strong>of</strong> each month and are held in the Optimist Hall<br />
which is upstairs in the Community Centre. <strong>The</strong> March breakfast will be held on March 18 th .<br />
Board Meetings are held the 3 rd Tuesday <strong>of</strong> each month at 7:30 in the upstairs hall. We<br />
would love to have members come to these meetings with ideas and comments. You don't<br />
have to sit on the board to be there. <strong>The</strong>y are open to any member. <strong>The</strong> March meeting is<br />
on March 20th and new fundraising ideas would be most welcome.<br />

Our <strong>club</strong> plans to host a Kids Dance sometime in May or June.<br />
Wanted:<br />
For the Convention is August the committee is asking if anyone could donate to the raffle table.<br />

We are in need <strong>of</strong> a couple <strong>of</strong> high chairs for events. If you have one or know <strong>of</strong> someone who<br />

Miscellaneous:<br />
We have new windows in the Youth Centre and have paid the <strong>Municipality</strong>. <strong>The</strong>se windows can<br />
