On his return he was accompanied by hs sister, Mrs. Mary Thekes, from Schifflange, his niece, Mrs. Bertha Hahn, from Draufelt and his sister-in-law, Mrs. Anna Simon, from Binsfelt Luxembourg. No doubt Peter enjoyed his visit with his relatives in his native land. These three ladies became his guest for the next five months. Their first stop was Paris, France. Here they spent a few days taking in the sights. Upon arriving in Morton Grove, Mrs. Simon visited with her son Stephen Simon, in Morton Grove. The other two ladies looked after the comfort of Peter, a widower. Recently they returned from a tour to California, which lasted several weeks. Their Fairy Godfather Peter made sure they did not miss a thing. From a tour to Catalina Island, Disney land, Hollywood, a four day bus tour to San Francisco and other scenic spots to numerous to mention. As the happy girls mentioned, we felt like in a dream, ever since we came to America. On the train to California, we wondered about the vast spacious land and the great distances. Yes Peter, really showed them the good old U.S.A. Sorrowfully they prepared to return to their native villages in Luxembourg. They left O'Hare International Airport on Thursday, March 19, 4 P.M. via Air France to Paris and another smaller plane to the Findle Airport, Luxembourg. Yes, they said we have to return to prepare our vegetable garden at home. AU Revoir Girls, glad you could come and thanks to old Peter for making it possible. Luxembourg Participated At The International Travel Fair Through the combinied efforts of Mr. Steinmetz, Consul for Luxembourg, in New York City and Mr Joseph Witry, Consul General for the Middle Western States, in Chicago, Ill., a booth was secured at the Prudential Building, Chicago, Ill., for an exhibition of world travels for the coming tourist season on March 21- 22. Mr. Witry secured the cooperation of Luxembourg personal from the various Luxembourg organizations to assist him in this program. Luxembourg, although small in comparison to other countries who vie for tourist trade, has much to offer those travelers who place the Grand Duchy on their itinerary while visiting the European Continent this summer. Our Luxembourg Colony with the assistance of our diplomatic corps does their utmost in letting the public know at every opportunity available, about the beauty of this garden spot of Europe and the many accommodations afforded them during their visits. Our Motto is; You haven't seen Europe, if you haven't seen Luxembourg. June Wedding A June 20th wedding is planned by Dorsi Thillens, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Melvin G. Thillens, 2109 Central Park ave., Evanston, to Michael W. Sieben, son of Mr. and Mrs. Theodore J. Sieben, 5110 Lee St., Skokie. Miss Thillens is a graduate of Barat college of the Sacred Heart, Lake Forest, and teaches at St. Peter school, Skokie. Sieben attended Eastern Illiinois university, Charleston. Beware of Fake Repair Men It came to our attention recently, that homeowners are being solicited by fake persons who approach them regarding repairs on their property. Our daily papers have also warned homeowners about this swindle. These flighty operators appear in the alley in back of your house with a truck on which generally appears a fictitious business address. Generally no phone number. In some instances, they do damage to your roof or chimney while one contacts the owner in the house. The result generally is that the owner signs a fake contract and pays far above the price for such repair work. For safety first, contact a reliable business man before you fall for one of these smooth talking operators. Returns From Luxembuorg The much traveled gentleman, Mr. Chris Weiler, recently returned from Vianden, Luxembourg, where he visited his sick brother. After his arrival, his sick brother took on new life and was able to leave his bedside to be with his brother. When Mr. Weiler said goodbye it seems he felt deeply depressed and by the time his brother arrived in the states, he passed away. Reports have it he suffered a great deal and his sickness was incurable. Ladies Catholic Benevolent Association The St. Henry's Ladies Catholic Jenevolent Association, Branch No. 1031, will hold its annual Easter Monday Luncheon and Card Party on March 30, 1964, at 12:30 P.M., at St. Henry's Club House, Ridge & )evon Avenues. Friday, March 27, 1964 LUXEMBOURG NEWS Page Three A Letter From Spain Father Mathias Fischer Tour As A Chaplain To Our American Army Camps In Spain Early Thursday morning, February 6, the Spanish Mission Tour began, as all things should begin, with Mass in the Kolping Chapel. We asked God's blessing on our adventure. Then a hurried check of baggage and belongings. Fortunately the check revealed that I had forgotten to include a passport. In Wiesbaden, Germany, a further check showed I had forgotten a toothbrush and an alarm clock. God's blessings began immediately with an unforgettable breakfast at the Frank Eilers and the discovery of a new route to O'Hare Field via Rockford. When we finally arrived at O'- Hare, Officer Ed Klein, one of O. W. Wilson's finest, was on hand to welcome us, park our car and escort us to Gate 6. Here, in the company of Marcella Eilers and Mary Hild, we were greeted by the official representative of Kolping International, Max Haussler. He informed us that he had thoroughly checked our TWA Super Jet and found all things in order. Promptly at 9:30 A.M. we were off on the first leg of our journey. An hour and a half later we touched down in Philadephia, where, in the spirit of brotherly love, the Air Force had a limousine waiting to take us another fifty miles to McGuire Air Field at Fort Dix, New Jersey. At McGuire, Chaplain Ellenborgen, one of the top ranking chaplains of the Jewish Faith, warmly welcomed us. He escorted us to temporary quarters, served refreshments (coffee) and introduced us to many of the important personalities at the base. Chaplain E. is a former Chicagoan; so naturally we began to reminisce about Rogers Park and Skokie. During the afternoon our passport and official orders were checked. Of all the chaplains checking in I was the only one asked the question, "How much do you weigh?" When I saw the plane, a constellation of the Seaboard Airlines, I began to suspect why the officials were worried about my weight. There were 155 people aboard of which at least sixty were children under seven. At 5 o'clock we finally took off, bound for Paris. The trip was smooth and for me, relatively short. The other priests awarded me a medal for being the best sleeper. Seemingly I slept most of the way, even during the hour or so that we circled over Paris trying to land in the fog and rain which had enevloped the city. After a two hour stay at Orly Field we were again on our way to Frankfort, Germany. When we landed at Frankfort-Main, Chaplain Nash Geaney and his staff were on hand to greet us. Soon we were on our way to the General Steuben Hotel in Wiesbaden. Here we had the afternoon to ourselves. Father Gregory Smith, a Paulist from Spokane, whose mission was to take him to Greece, accompanied me as we visited the newly erected church of the Holy Family in Wiesbaden. We met the pastor, Fathes Fueger, a former Praeses of the Wiesbaden Kolping Family. After a tour of the church, I took a taxi to the Wiesbaden Kolping House. Let me assure you that our Chicago House is as modern as the newest Hilton Hotel in comparison to Wiesbaden. There are about forty residents in Kolping Wiesbaden, but that doesn't mean forty rooms. Each of the fellows had a bed in a big room and the beds were stacked three high, bunk style. There never is a question of changing rooms here, only beds. As one acquires seniority he gradually decends from the upper bed to the lower bunk. There is a very large auditorium, accommodationg more than 1000 people, where preparations for Karnival were under way. Naturally I received a warm welcome and within minutes, even though it was Friday, I found myself seated at a table weighed down with Westphalian Schinken und Butter Brot ... and Kaffe. Schoolmates Wed 50 Years Friends from school days at St. Joseph parish in Wilmette, Mr. and Mrs. Peter Kirchens Sr., 142 Thelin ct, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary there on Jan 18. Msgr. Charles N. Meter, pastor offered the anniversary Mass. Mrs. Kirchens, the former Anna Roemer of Wilmette, and her husband were married in St. Joseph's. The Mass, at 8:45 a.m. was folowed by breakfast for the family, also Mr. and Mrs. Henry Luetz and son of Casey, Ill. Later a reception for 100 guests was held at the Wilmette Golf club, Lake and Harms rd. The Kirchens have four children: Mrs. Caroline Pettinger, Mrs. Barbara Schneider and Mrs. Rose Miller, all of Wilmette and a son, Peter Kirchens Jr., Glenview. There are five grandchildren: Thomas and Marge Pettinger, Theresa Ann Schneider and Peter and Patrick Kirchens. Mr. and Mrs. John Roemer, also attended the celebration. He is the brother of Mrs. Kirchens and the only surviving usher of the wedding party. Weather Is Fine Many of our Florida winter vacation tourist complained about the unsasonable weather there this season. Not so for Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Hansen, of Skokie, Ill. They are vacationing in Florida. They were visiting with Mr. Hansen's brother Frank and his wife Margaret in Largo, Florida. They report 65 to 85 temperatures for the past 3 weeks.
