their property values. They were paranoid that the property beyond<br />

them would be sold to Jews, and they would try to use their road as<br />

access. In all fairness they wouldnt want a public road for anybody,<br />

because they might not contribute to the upkeep. The only way to<br />

keep the road private was to close it <strong>of</strong>f 24 hours per year, and send<br />

a letter to Port Carling attesting that this was done. Believe it or<br />

not,, in the early 30s a gate was built near what is now the entrance<br />

to the Troy Cove store, and for one day, it was closed. Flyers were<br />

sent out to park your car on Wilsons side if you wanted to use it.. It<br />

was only a few years that this was done. Lets jump ahead to around<br />

1960 for the conclusion to the story.. As I told you, WW 2 had put<br />

an end to the Norvoc organization. Many cottages had been sold<br />

and the new cottagers did not know each other. Before l960 there<br />

was a Camp Winnebago on the site <strong>of</strong> what is now Camp Ramah.<br />

A group outing in canoes would <strong>of</strong>ten go to Wilson’s store.<br />

The cottage above Troy Cove Marina commands a view <strong>of</strong> the whole<br />

bay. (The cottage was torn down years ago, and a new owner built<br />

a year-around home.) The original owner, Mr. Briggs, was looking<br />

over the bay and saw canoes coming from the new Camp Ramah. He<br />

hurried down to Wilsons, talked to Ma Wilson (Mays mother), She<br />

walked down to the beach, and when they tried to land, she said they<br />

were not welcome. They didnt argue, and paddled away. They could<br />

have argued because it was ceded <strong>by</strong> Wilsons as public access when<br />

the government built the large dock years ago costing thousands <strong>of</strong><br />

dollars.<br />

My sister was at Wilsons and witnessed this. When she told Dad<br />

at the cottage, he was furious. He went down and had a discussion<br />

with Mrs. Wilson, but I dont know the results <strong>of</strong> it. I dont believe<br />
