I write in response to your request for information in relation to junior doctor rotas under the New<br />
Deal. Please note that there are no trusts within the <strong>NHS</strong> in Scotland.<br />
I have been provided with information to help answer your request by Ms Jackie Houston,<br />
Head of Employee Relations - Medical and Dental, <strong>NHS</strong> <strong>Lothian</strong>.<br />
Question:-<br />
1. How many junior doctors (doctors in training) do you currently employ in your Trust/ Health<br />
<strong>Board</strong>?<br />
Answer:-<br />
There are currently 854.93 whole time equivalent junior doctors within <strong>NHS</strong> <strong>Lothian</strong>.<br />

2. How many monitoring exercises of junior doctors’ rotas under the New Deal have the hospitals<br />
in your Trust/Health <strong>Board</strong> undertaken since August 2009 to the date of this email request<br />
(1 st February, 2013)?<br />

Since August 2009 there have been 1,006 monitoring exercises undertaken.<br />

Re-enforcement of the Compensatory Rest Policy. Revision of the rota template with shorter<br />
shift lengths/reduced post-call day to ensure rota is more robust.<br />
