LIVERPOOL BLITZ REMEMBERED
Special services were held to
mark the 70th anniversary of
the Liverpool Blitz when German
bombers pounded the city night
and day.
These included a service at
the Cathedral as well as wreathlaying
ceremonies at the Town
Hall and memorials.
Numerous VIP’s, veterans and
relatives attended the ceremonies.
Also giving their support were St
Mary’s College CCF and the ATC.
It is known that a lighthouse
situated at Altcar Training Camp
had to be demolished because the
bombers used it as a turning point
before flying down the Mersey to
bomb Liverpool. The Ack-Ack base
plinths can still be seen at Altcar.
