This year’s Unity Day celebration was well attended by
students and staff alike. Attendees were favored with a
wide selection of picnic foods including hamburgers, veggie
burgers, hot dogs, bratwurst, potato salad,
macaroni salad, watermelon, and more.
Lively entertainment was provided by
Travelin’ Max who sang and strummed his
renditions of beach, calypso, and
summertime music.
The young (and young at heart) enjoyed
a variety of activities. One tent featured
frog pond prizes, scavenger hunts, and a
balloon artist. Kids scrambled over
inflatable walls and down inflatable slides
for their version of a mini Ironman
competition. A Radar Pitch timed how fast
students could throw a baseball. And Rock‘em Sock‘em, a
perennial favorite of the students, consisted of a wobbly
air filled arena where two people try to knock each other
down with air filled jousting poles.
The students, assembled by trimester, competed in a tug
of war contest. The 3rd trimester managed to stay out of
the mud pit. When asked to explain the 3rd tri’s
overwhelming success, Pamela Thompson
recounted, “Sheer numbers, Dr. DeCicco’s
pep talk, and the other teams’ apathy.”
Congratulations 3rd tri!
An Outcast Survivor Game completed the
day. Similar to the well-known Survivor TV
program, 13 students and staff competed
for a cruise to the Bahamas. The contestants
divided into two teams — the Bahama
Mammas and the Maui Wowies. Each team
then went head-to-head in games that
Ernie A. Bagnula, 3rd Trimester included, “Name Edible Items,”
“Blindfolded Maze,” “Alphabet
Conversations,” and a scavenger hunt. Ernie Bagnulo, 3rd
tri, won the cruise.
At the end of the day, tired, everyone went home a winner.
