Format
The format of this championship is 54 holes of individual stroke play. There will be a cut after the first round to the low 60
players and ties, and then another cut after the second round to the low 30 players and ties.
The player with the lowest 54 hole score will be the champion. If a tie exists at the end of 54 holes, a sudden-death playoff will
be used to determine the champion.
Schedule of Events
The schedule of events for the 2012 NYS Mid-Amateur Championship has been set as follows:
Contestant practice rounds.
Round 1 (Morning Wave) - 18 Holes. Play will begin off the 1 st and 10 th tees.
Complimentary lunch for contestants. All others will be charged on a cash basis.
Round 1 (Afternoon Wave) - 18 Holes. Play will begin off the 1 st and 10 th tees.
After Round 1 the field will be cut to the low 60 players and ties.
Round 2 - 18 Holes. All play will begin off the 1 st tee.
Complimentary lunch for contestants. All others will be charged on a cash basis.
After Round 2 the field will be cut to the low 30 players and ties.
Round 3 - 18 Holes. Play will begin off the 1 st tee.
Complimentary lunch for contestants. All others will be charged on a cash basis.
A playoff, if necessary, will immediately follow the conclusion of play.
Awards ceremony to immediately follow the posting of the final results.

Player Registration
Registration will be held on Thursday, September 27 at Midvale CC from 8:30am until 3:00pm outside of the club’s professional
shop. Any contestant unable to register on-site is asked to call the NYSGA office at (315) 471-6979 in order to register. All contestants
must register with the NYSGA prior to 3:00pm, failure to do so will result in loss of position in the championship.
Practice Round
A practice round is available to all contestants on Thursday, September 27 between the times of 9:00am and 3:00pm. The first
tee will be open on a first-come, first-serve basis so there is no need to call the golf course to schedule a tee time.
If you cannot make the Thursday practice round, you may call the pro shop to check availability of a tee time at a more suitable
time. Subject to availability. Additional charges may apply.
Player Lunches
There will be complimentary lunches provided to all contestants on Friday, Saturday and Sunday (see schedule of events for
hours). Guests are welcome but will be required to pay a fee decided by the club (cash only).
Additional Food & Beverage Options at Midvale CC
The club’s restaurant will be open daily for lunch and dinner (cash only or, if possible, bill to player’s home club).
Practice Facilities
Range balls will be provided compliments of the NYSGA. The range will be open beginning at 7:00am.
Golf Carts
The use of golf carts is approved for this championship ($20 per player per round). There is a two cart limit per group.
Caddies
A player may employ the services of a caddie in this championship. A caddie may ride as long as their is room within the two
cart limit per group.
Championship Course Set-up & Yardage
The yardage played will vary daily, but will in most instances be from the stock black tees at Midvale CC (see below). Hole
length, especially on the par-3s, may vary daily based on course conditions and weather. Hole location sheets will be provided
to all contestants at the their designated starting hole along with the championship’s Notice to Competitors (see enclosed for
the NYSGA’s Local Rules and Conditions of Competition).

Immediately following the Round 1, the cut will be made and pairings for Round 2 will be created. Once finalized, this information
will be posted in the clubhouse, professional shop, and online. We will also email this information to the field. This
procedure will be repeated for Round 3.

The New York State Golf Association’s
Local Rules and Conditions of Competition
2012
The Rules of the United States Golf Association govern play. For additional Local Rules and Conditions of
Competition, see applicable championship or qualifying round Notice to Players and Entry Application.
The complete text of the Rules, including Appendix I, may be found in the 2012-2015 Rules of Golf.
LOCAL RULES
Out of Bounds — Defined by inside points, at ground level, of
white stakes and fence posts. Rule 27-1.
Water and Lateral Water Hazard Stakes and Lines — When a
water hazard or a lateral water hazard is defined on only one
side, it is deemed to extend to infinity. When a water hazard or
lateral water hazard is bounded by out of bounds, the hazard
margin extends to and coincides with the out of bounds line.
Ground Under Repair — Defined by white lines. Fire ant hills,
sod-covered trenching for temporary cables and French drains
are deemed to be ground under repair. Rule 25-1. (Note: For a
player whose ball is in a water hazard and is affected by a fire
ant hill — see Decision 1-4/10.)
Ground under repair may include areas of unusual damage,
including areas where spectators or other traffic has combined
with wet conditions to affect materially the ground surface, but
only when so declared by an authorized member of the Committee.
When immediately adjacent to an obstruction, such an
area is part of the obstruction.
Seams of Cut Turf (Sod Seams) — The Local Rule as prescribed
in Appendix I is in effect.
Immovable Obstructions — Include plastic bumpers on roads
and paths and mats secured to the ground with spikes when
the bumpers or mats cover cables.
White-Lined Areas Tying Into Artificially-Surfaced Roads and
Paths — Have the same status as the roads and paths, that of
obstructions.
Wood Chips and Mulch — Are loose impediments, unless
otherwise provided for in Notice to Players.
Embedded Ball Through the Green — Local Rule as prescribed
in Appendix I is in effect.
Integral Parts of the Course — Include cables, rods, wires or
wrappings when closely attached to trees; artificial walls and
pilings when located in hazards, unless otherwise provided for
in Notice to Players.
Temporary Power Lines and Cables — Local Rule as prescribed
in Appendix I is in effect.
Temporary Immovable Obstructions — Local Rule as prescribed
in Appendix I is in effect.
CONDITIONS OF COMPETITION
List of Conforming Driver Heads — Optional Condition as prescribed
in Appendix I is in effect.
List of Conforming Golf Balls — Optional Condition as prescribed
in Appendix I is in effect.
Discontinuance of Play — Optional Condition as prescribed
in Appendix I is in effect. All practice areas are closed during
suspension for a dangerous situation until the Committee has
declared them open. Players who practice on closed practice
areas will be asked to cease doing so; failure to comply may
result in revocation of entry.
Note: A suspension for a dangerous situation will be signaled
by one prolonged airhorn note. All other types of suspension
will be signaled by three consecutive airhorn notes, repeated.
Resumption of play will be signaled by two short airhorn notes,
repeated.
Metal/Ceramic Spikes — The use of metal or ceramic spikes is
prohibited. Use of these spikes will result in disqualification.
Pace of Play — See separate memorandum to players for pace
of play guidelines, when applicable.
Distance Measuring Devices — A player may obtain distance
information by using a device that measures distance only. If,
during a stipulated round, a player uses a distance-measuring
device that is designed to gauge or measure other conditions
that might affect his play (e.g., gradient, wind speed, temperature,
etc.), the player is in breach of Rule 14-3, for which the
penalty is disqualification, regardless of whether any such additional
function is actually used.
Close of Competition — The competition is deemed to have
closed when the trophy has been presented to the winner or,
in the absence of a prize ceremony, when all scores have been
approved by the Committee.
The result of a match is considered to have been “officially
announced” when the Committee has approved the result as
posted on the public scoreboard.
