Licensing situation<br />

In 2006 the Blue Pelican bar applied for a Premises Licence to allow lap<br />

dancing.<br />

Action<br />

The application led to months of public opposition led <strong>by</strong> the National<br />

Museum of Photography, Film and Television (NMPFT), located near to the<br />

venue. However the licence was eventually granted.<br />

Halifax<br />

Licensing situation<br />

In 2003 Halifax Council received an application to open La Salsa, the city’s<br />

first lap dancing club. The licence was refused <strong>by</strong> the licensing authority.<br />

However following introduction of the Licensing Act 2003 the applicant<br />

resubmitted a licence application.<br />

Action<br />

La Salsa was subsequently granted a licence despite widespread public<br />

opposition 39 . A licence for a second club was approved in April 2007, but<br />

the venue has yet to open.<br />
