ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE<br />
The Associate in Science (A.S.) degree and Associate in Applied Science<br />
(A.A.S.) degree programs in Environmental Science are designed<br />
to prepare students for careers in the dynamically growing field of<br />
environmental science, environmental policy, and environmental<br />
technology. The A.S. degree program incorporates two tracks, or options,<br />
as follows: 1) The Natural Sciences Option, with a scientific emphasis,<br />
provides students with a strong background in the natural sciences; and<br />
2) The Environmental Policy Option allows students to proceed along a<br />
more social sciences orientation, i.e., issues of law, economics, or human<br />
activities that impact the natural environment. These two options are<br />
particularly attractive to four-year institutions that offer baccalaureate or<br />
graduate degrees in environmental studies, where our graduates may<br />
apply for additional preparation in the field.<br />
The A.A.S. degree program in Environmental Technology is designed<br />
to provide an opportunity for students to enter the job market. Upon<br />
completing all degree requirements, students will be able to compete for<br />
positions in the immediate job market as lab and/or field technologists in<br />
local government agencies, but most typically in private industry.<br />
ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE<br />
Associate in Science<br />
This program is designed to prepare students for careers in the dynamic<br />
field of environmental science, which is concerned with monitoring<br />
humanity’s impact on the Earth and solving environmental problems.<br />
Students graduating from this program might work in environmental<br />
education centers, public relations firms, testing labs, environmental<br />
research organizations, travel/tourism (ecotourism companies), food<br />
manufacturers, waste management companies or government agencies.<br />
The program provides students with a strong background in the natural<br />
sciences and is attractive to four-year institutions that offer baccalaureate<br />
or graduate degrees in environmental studies, where OCC graduates may<br />
apply for additional preparation in the field.<br />

Associate in Applied Science<br />
This program offers a wide variety of opportunities for volunteers<br />
and paid members of fire service seeking to upgrade their skills<br />
and for students wishing to pursue a career in fire science.<br />
Graduates may find opportunities in the insurance field (fire<br />
scene investigator, safety inspector, arson investigator), in industry<br />
(fire fighter, fire safety inspector), in municipal departments (fire<br />
fighter with officer qualifications, code prevention inspector, code<br />
enforcement officer) or in the federal service (fire fighter/fire officer,<br />
fire education/training specialist).<br />
