CHAPTER 1
1.4 VISION
The mission of the Plan Team is “to plan for future growth and orderly development
of the Southeast Sector, so that we can preserve the environment and protect our quality of
life”. The Plan Team developed a vision of how the Southeast Sector would be described if
planning goals are met.
Effective Planning for Future Growth
The Southeast Sector is a well-planned area
− with development that conforms to the plan;
− where development and infrastructure are coordinated and compatible;
− where infrastructure improvements are strategically implemented by areas of priority;
− and where full and timely planning and development information is provided to those
involved and affected by planning decisions.
Character and Natural Resources
As the Southeast Sector grows and develops,
− its rural character and open space are preserved and
− its environmental resources are protected.
Emergency Services and Infrastructure
Within the Southeast Sector,
− citizens and property are safe and protected, with efficient and timely emergency
response to calls for service from rural residents and businesses;
− high quality streets and well-planned access points for new development promote
efficient traffic circulation;
− roads are repaired and maintained through coordination between City and County
agencies to increase safety and ease of travel while decreasing delays; and
− the quality of infrastructure (roads, water, sewer, fire and police facilities and
schools) is adequate for current development and anticipated growth, with facilities
in place as development occurs.
Transportation and Development Corridors
Within the Southeast Sector,
− transportation corridors along Interstate-240 (I-240) and Interstate-40 (I-40) provide
desired, commercial development that preserves view sheds and protects the rural
character of the area; and
− the transportation system provides choices to residents and businesses as to modes
of travel and travel routes that provide good access within and between area
neighborhoods and to outside destinations, including jobs.
Involved Community
The Southeast Sector has strong citizen involvement with
− full participation by residents and area businesses in making planning decisions that
affect the area; and
− strong neighborhood associations that engender quality, safety, and pride in
ownership.
