Congratulations to Jenni Bourke on winning the River of An'Art Prizefor
2013. Her wondedul clay sculpture "Bemeringal" was a very popular winner.
Congratulations also to members Oung Niennattrakul, Richard Nipperess and
Yiv Bowe, who received commendations.
Thank you to everyone who attended the members meeting on June 2'd. The
feedbackfrom the meeting has resulted in several decisions being made at the
Committee meeting last Tuesday, which are talked about in the Trom the
committee' article on page 3.
The themefor the August Challenge is 'DRtll(ING'. This does not mean thqt
everyone has to pick up a pencil. Perhaps a reward for the most creative
interpretation of the theme. Read more on page 3.
There is not much plannedfor August or September, but it was discussed aver
lunch one day, that we have a week of 'open house' where everyday there is a
hands on apportunity or demonstration of the dffirentforms af art and craft,
practiced by members, to be publicised so that interested members of the
public can have s look or try and perhaps evenfind out where the Cottage is.
Thefirst week in September was suggested and the theme could be 'Spring
into Spring'. Your feedback or offers to participate would be welcomed
before the July Committee meeting, so that a decision can be made to proceed.
It has also come to that time ofyear where each member is asked to consider
taking on one of the many positions that make MACS work so well. Including
the Exhibition Committee, there are over 20 positions with varying degrees of
commitment required. The list of positions is on the right side of this page plus
afew others (helpers). Some of the Committee and others are happy to
continue in their position, but we need several more to help out. The positions
marked with * are committee positions.
From the Committee Meeting
Following the well attended Members Meeting, the Committee has made afew decisions, in line with members wishes
and to help things work a bit better.
We will proceed with the provision of a rear access to the Cottage. Plans are being drawn up and work will proceed as
soon as everything is in place. This will include a driveway linking up with the top side of the cottage, disabled
parking and access to the cottage, and parking areas behind the cottage on the same level. More work has been
discussedfor access to the lower level and other things, but this will depend on costs.
The garage, laundry and lower toilet will be improvedfor use by members.
A decision was also made about the opening time of the Plaza Gallery. It was felt that an earlier opening would be
better, followingfeedbackfrom 'Millers' and members. The new hours are l)am - 2pm Monday - Friday and l0am -
12.45 on Saturday (as Millers closes at lpm), starting immediately. If you have problems please let me know and we
will sort things out.
The management of displays and rosters was discussed at length again at the Committee meeting. As a co-operative
venture, each exhibitor has obligations, which make it work and arefair to everyone. Changes have been decided on.
Please read the Information for Gallery Exhibitors on the next page.
DRAWTNC _ CHAI.I.ENCE
The theme can be interpreted in any way youfeel inspired to do it, whether with drawing, painting, photography,
fabric art, clay work, mosaics or any other creative means. There is also talk about some rauardfor the most
'innovative or interesting' interpretation of the theme (suggestions welcome). Presentation of the challenge works
will be Sunday 25h July @ 2p-
Cards featuring members work
The idea of producing cards with images of MACS members' work to use as a fundraiser and
promotion of the artists, is being considered by the Committee. Each artist providing an image,
would in return receive a quantity of the cards for their own use. It would not be done to
compete with the cards already on sale in our galleries, but be for sale at exhibitions and special
occasions. Your feedback and offer of images would be welcome.
