Charlie Coakley from Bubblefactor ESU in
Ormskirk and a former scout with the 42nd
Ormskirk (Skelmersdale) has secured his
place on this years County trip to Nepal with
the fantastic fund raising of his school.
A group of eleven 14 to 18 year old Scouts
from across Lancashire are travelling to Nepal
in December and returning in January giving
up their Christmas, whilst in Nepal the Scouts
will spend seven days in Sahara International
Helpless Children’s Home, Kathmandu
participating in humanitarian activities and they
will then spend the remainder of the trip
enjoying adventurous activities.
Charlie has been raising funds by bag packs
and other fund raisers but his school has
pulled out all the stops in fulfilling his quest !
Mr Smart headteacher had this to say,“Our Lady
Queen of Peace is proud of its distinctive ethos which is based on the Gospel values. Our Mission Statement
‘In Christ We Grow’ asks our learners to put Christ at the centre of all that they do in an environment where
caring, sharing and achieving are the norm.
We believe Charlie has fully embraced this Mission Statement throughout his time at Our Lady’s, by being
willing to be involved in all aspects of school life and by being helpful and caring in the local and wider
community. In particular his selfless attitude to helping others is remarkable and he is an inspiration to us all.
As well as being a learner at Our Lady’s, Charlie and his family are also part of the local Catholic Parish in
Skelmersdale, and as such, Charlie has always exemplified what it means to live out the Gospel message in
the care and concern he has shown for others.
Charlie has been an excellent role model to other learners in our school. and helping him fundraise was an
essential way in which the whole school could support the work that he is undertaking in Nepal. Charlie has
presented in school assemblies and his words are a great example to others. He has opened minds to the
possibilities and opportunities which they can experience in helping others both now and in the future.
We, as a school, think that the scouting movement, of which Charlie is a part, gives young people great
opportunities to work together in achieving their goals and ambitions. Also, it can enable them to become
confident and self-disciplined, helping them to raise their self-esteem and fulfil their true potential in a similar
way to standards and goals we set for the learners in our school - Our Lady’s.
We wish Charlie and all those heading to Nepal our best wishes and prayers and the school looks forward to
hearing about his adventures on
his return.”
