Angie Morton begins<br />
her seventh season<br />
at the helm of<br />
the Catawba College<br />
women’s basketball program.<br />
Catawba has compiled<br />
a 96-76 mark in her<br />
previous seasons.<br />
In her first season, she<br />
led Catawba to a 22-9<br />
record and to both the<br />
South Atlantic conference<br />
regular-season and tournament<br />
titles. The Lady<br />
Indians also qualified for<br />
the NCAA II Regional. Morton, a 1984 Catawba graduate,<br />
returned to her alma mater after serving as head coach at<br />
Pfeiffer University for seven seasons where she compiled a<br />
98-91 record.<br />
During her seven years at Pfeiffer, Morton guided the<br />
Lady Falcons to a pair of Carolinas-Virginia Conference titles<br />
and the school’s first NCAA II playoff berth in 2002-03. The<br />
back-to-back 20 win campaigns, including a 24-5 mark in<br />
2002-03, earned Morton consecutive CVAC Coach of the Year<br />
honors. Morton was also a CVAC Coach of the Year in softball<br />
in 2000 as she led Pfeiffer to the league crown.<br />
Prior to her stint at Pfeiffer, Morton was the girls head<br />
coach at West Stanly High School for eight years. She guided<br />
the school to playoff appearances in all eight seasons and<br />
was RRC Coach of the Year in 1992. She also served as coach<br />
at Locust Elementary School and Knox Middle School.<br />
Graduating from Catawba in 1984, Morton earned a bachelor<br />
of arts degree in elementary education. At Catawba as<br />
Angie Crayton, she earned 10 letters, playing basketball, softball<br />
and field hockey. In basketball, Morton played in 86<br />
games and averaged 5.5<br />
points, netting a career<br />
high 26 in a loss to<br />
Wingate as a senior.<br />
She added 163<br />
rebounds and 107<br />
assists. Morton was a<br />
.367 career hitter in<br />
softball with nine home<br />
runs and 74 RBI.<br />
Morton resides in<br />
Albemarle with her husband,<br />
Randy. They have<br />
four children, Matt,<br />
Keri, Krista and Tad.<br />
Assistant Coaches<br />
RICKY JOINES<br />
Assistant Coach<br />
Ricky Joines is in his eleventh season<br />
as an assistant with the Catawba<br />
women’s basketball team. He is a<br />
2002 Catawba graduate with a degree<br />
in physical education and recreation.<br />
He also serves as an assistant to the<br />
Athletic Director at Catawba and is<br />
assistant director of the Cat-U Basketball Camps.<br />
Joines came to Catawba after serving as head coach of the<br />
junior varsity girls basketball team at West Wilkes High<br />
School. During those three years he also assisted with the<br />
girls varsity program. In 1990-91, he assisted with the boys<br />
varsity team that won the Northwest 2A Conference title.<br />
Joines earned an associate arts degree in 1996 at Wilkes<br />
Community College where he played basketball for two<br />
seasons.<br />
He resides in Salisbury.<br />
DORTHELL LITTLE<br />
Assistant Coach<br />
Dorthell Little begins her seventh<br />
season as an assistant coach with the<br />
Catawba women’s basketball program.<br />
She is a 2003 graduate of<br />
Catawba, earning a bachelor of science<br />
degree in business.<br />
Little played three seasons with<br />
the Lady Indians after transferring from Armstrong Atlantic.<br />
She was a two-time All-South Atlantic Conference selection<br />
and earned all-region honors as a junior. Little ranks third<br />
all-time with 95 blocked shots and fourth with 223 steals.<br />
Over her four collegiate seasons, Little scored 1,132 points<br />
with 948 coming in three years at Catawba. She ranks ninth<br />
all-time at Catawba with 677 rebounds. Her career shooting<br />
percentage of 57% is second best all-time. Little was a standout<br />
at Richmond Senior High School, helping the Raiders to<br />
three conference titles.<br />
She resides in Salisbury.<br />
