PETER BOURQUEHead CoachPeter Bourque is in his 17th season as the head coach of the<strong>Catawba</strong> lacrosse program. He arrived in June 1993 to build the programfrom its inception. Along with his coaching duties, Bourquealso serves as an Assistant Athletic Director at <strong>Catawba</strong>.In 2007, <strong>Catawba</strong> earned a share of the Deep South Conferencetitle. In 2005, the Indians advanced to the DSC Tournament final forthe second straight season and posted a school record with ten winsfor a season in 2004. Bourque has been rewarded for his efforts bybeing named the Deep South Conference Coach of the Year in both 2000 and 2003. In 1999,Bourque was selected to coach in the prestigious USILA North-South All-Star game in SaratogaSprings, NY.He graduated from Guilford <strong>College</strong> in 1988, where he earned a BS in Sports Management.While at Guilford, Bourque was a four-year athlete, and received the Neuris-English AthleticLeadership Award, recognizing him as one of the outstanding athletes at the school. In 1992,Bourque went on to receive his M.Ed. in School Administration from Lynchburg <strong>College</strong>, inVirginia, where he was a member of Kappa Delta Pi International Education Honor Society.Bourque was born in Springfield, MA, but was reared in Westfield, NJ. He graduated fromWestfield High School and The Gunnery Prep School in Washington,CT.Bourque carries with him much experience, having coached atGreensboro <strong>College</strong>, Lynchburg <strong>College</strong>, M.I.T Cambridge, MA, andGuilford. In the summer, Bourque serves as a director for the successfulDixie Top 150 lacrosse camps.During his tenure at <strong>Catawba</strong>, Bourque is proud to have coached 28All-Deep South Con ference performers. He has also coached six All-Americans and one Academic All-American, the USILA’s top award.Bourque has served on several NCAA Division II lacrosse committeesand currently holds the post as Division II Regional Director for All-American Selection Committee.Bourque and his wife, Ann, reside in Salisbury. They have three children; Kathlenn Isabel(13), Brendan Peter (12) and Molly Ann (10).MIKE MURPHYAssistant CoachMike Murphy begins his second stint as an assistant coach with the<strong>Catawba</strong> lacrosse program in <strong>2010</strong>. Murphy previously was an assistantfrom 1999-2001. Murphy is a 1998 <strong>Catawba</strong> graduate, earning a degree incommunications.While at <strong>Catawba</strong>, Murphy earned All-Deep South Conference honorsand was a pre-season All-American in 1997. Murphy played both at attackand as a defender at <strong>Catawba</strong> and set a then school-record of 51 points as a junior, scoring 31goals with 20 assists. After college, Murphy traveled twice to England to play against the nationalteam and still plays in the SCOG League.Murphy coached two years at Myers Park High School in Charlotte before returning to hisalma mater. During that time he coached several travel teams in the area, including the CarolinaColts, Carolina Blues and Team Charlotte.A native of Rockville, MD, Murphy grew up in a lacrosse family. His father, two brothersand sister all played lacrosse at the collegiate level. One brother, Tim, also played at <strong>Catawba</strong>.1
