RESPONSE <strong>ACCOMMODATIONS</strong><br />

WHAT ARE RESPONSE <strong>ACCOMMODATIONS</strong>?<br />

Response accommodations allow students to complete assignments, tests, and activities in<br />

different ways or to solve or organize problems using some type <strong>of</strong> assistive device or organizer.<br />

WHO CAN BENEFIT FROM RESPONSE <strong>ACCOMMODATIONS</strong>?<br />

Response accommodations can benefit students with physical, sensory, or learning disabilities<br />

(including difficulties with memory, sequencing, directionality, alignment, and organization).<br />

INDICATE STATE SPECIFIC CONDITIONS IN CHARTS.<br />

Review the following tables <strong>of</strong> accommodations and using check marks () in the appropriate<br />

columns, indicate the conditions under which each type <strong>of</strong> accommodation may be provided.<br />

<strong>The</strong>se conditions are defined as: (1) Standard—the accommodation described is allowed for<br />

assessment and instruction; (2) Nonstandard—use <strong>of</strong> the accommodation on state assessments<br />

will result in a nonscorable assessment; and (3) Instruction Only—the accommodation is allowed<br />

for instructional purposes only and cannot be used on state assessments. Use an asterisk (*) to<br />

indicate state restrictions on the use <strong>of</strong> the accommodation for particular assessments.<br />
