HUDSON’S LETTER
Besides the hit and miss
weather, the British
summer now also comes
with the predictable tabloid
column inches dedicated
to Big Brother. This year’s
contest continues to be
overshadowed by the furore
over January’s Celebrity
version, and a contestant
has already been evicted
by producers after using a
racist expression.
Am I the only one to
wonder whether they
would have reacted so
swiftly if homophobic
language or behaviour had
been used? In previous
years, contestants have
been placed in the BB house
after openly expressing
anti-gay sentiments in
their audition tapes. Is
intolerance towards gay
people somehow supposed
to be more acceptable or
forgivable?
When it first aired, Big
Brother seemed like a
benign observation of group
dynamics. Increasingly, the
producers have attempted
to foster an atmosphere of
confrontation and drama. If
they’re going to intervene
further – deeming
what is acceptable and
unacceptable language
– they need to act across
the board, tackling racism,
homophobia, sexism and all
forms of bigotry. To elevate
one form of prejudice as
being more taboo than
others sends out an equally
inflammatory message.
STAR LETTER
BIG WIDE WORLD
Well done on running the feature on gay couples that
choose to emigrate – it was different and refreshing. I
imagine that there must be a lot of gay couples that choose
to build a new life together abroad – often in sunnier
climes – whether to open up a gay B&B or try something
completely different. It was interesting to read about a
couple of them, and also your advice for those thinking of
doing the same. We too often think that London is the beall
and end-all of the gay universe. It was not a feature that
I could imagine any of the other gay magazines running. I
think that considering it’s a
free publication, Out is…
well, outstanding, so keep
it up.
WIN!
I LIGHT SPEAKER
We are giving away an I-Lit
lava lamp speaker to the
writer of next month’s Star
Letter. This kitsch prize
will look great in the swankiest of London
pads. The retro, colourful lamp doubles
up as two high quality speakers, which have a universal
headphone jack that can be plugged into any MP3 device
or CD player. The gadget is completely sound and light
sensitive, so turn up the volume and create your own mini
disco. The I-Lit weighs less than six eggs, so the crystal clear
speakers are completely portable.
UT-ILITY WEAR
We’re already regular visitors to the Oxford Street and Regent Street branches
of Uniqlo because of its ultra cheap fashions, so we were most interested to
read about the launch of its new UT t-shirts (above). Basically, the company
has asked a wide selection of renowned artists, designers, photographers
and musicians to produce over 1,000 unique styles of limited-edition t-shirts.
Designs have been submitted by such purveyors of cool as Gareth Pugh,
Kim Jones, Sølve Sunsbø and Nobuyoshi Araki – with more to come - while
acclaimed photographer Terry Richardson has shot the ad campaign. Check it
out at the Uniqlo branches on Oxford Street, Regent Street and Brompton Road,
or the newly opened store on High Street Kensington.
STEP BACK IN TIME
If you picked up this month’s Out In The City because of
our Heroes front cover, and fancy yourself as something
of a sci-fi geek, then you may well be interested in this
memoir (below) from Nick Griffiths. In the same way that
Nick Hornby’s Fever Pitch detailed his childhood passion for
Arsenal football club, Dalek I Loved You concerns itself
with young Mr Griffith’s obsession with Doctor Who. After
becoming hooked on the show at the age of four, Griffith’s
life-long love for the programme is here turned into a
charming and evocative memoir that will satisfy everyone
from the most nerdish ‘Whovian’ to those with only a
nodding acquaintance
with the show.
Published by Gollancz, it’s
available for £12.99 from
all good bookstores now.
TWO FRAGRANT
Hmmm… we’re not sure how long they spent dreaming
up the name, but despite it sounding a bit like a Hollywood
sequel, we are loving the fragrance. Gucci Pour Homme
II is nicely woody and spicy, with elements of violet,
cinnamon and pimento amongst its notes. Despite its pastel
colouring, it comes in a reassuringly solid and masculine
chunky bottle, and can be picked up for £45 (100ml) or £33
(50ml) from all good stockists of eau de toilette.
Thomas Sabo is one of Germany’s most respected jewellery
designers. The label is currently undergoing major global
expansion, and this summer sees the unveiling of the first Thomas
Sabo store in London. From 1 July you’ll find Thomas Sabo at 33
King’s Road, SW3, while from 24 August, the brand will also be
stocked in Selfridges. The men’s range uses sterling silver and cubic
zirconi – and items include chains, rings, cufflinks and bracelets.
We’re particularly liking the recurring skull motif (right) for that
retro rocker – or Damien Hirst - vibe.
Prices range from £14.95-£450. www.thomassabo.com

MONDAY 2 JULY
Sure to prompt plenty of debate about
originality, authorship and the intrinsic
value or ideas, Me As Him is the title
of the new show from controversial
Brit-artist Gavin Turk. Having already
explored ideas about authenticity
with his examinations of fame and
superimposing his own image upon
the likes of Sid Vicious and Ché
Guevera, Turk has now reconstructed
Andy Warhol’s ‘Fright Wig’ selfportraits,
replacing Warhol’s image
with his own. You’ll find the exhibition
at the Riflemaker Contemporary Art Gallery (79 Beak
Street, W1) from 3 July ‘til 8 September.

WHO’S WHO

PETER PETRELLI
(MILO VENTIMIGLIA)
A nurse who’s troubled by
dreams in which he can
fly, who’s determined to
whether his domineering
brother, Nathan, wants
him to or not.
NATHAN PETRELLI
(ADRIAN PASDAR)
Hard-nosed and
ambitious politician, who
doesn’t want to accept
that he might have special
powers or be in any way
‘different’, for fear of
turning off his prospective
voters. He’s the older
brother of Peter Petrelli.
MATT PARKMAN
(GREG GRUNBERG)
One for all you fans of
the chunkier man…
the sweet-natured
and slightly bumbling
Parkman is an ordinary
beat cop… until he
discovers his power to
read the minds of those
around him.
secret powers of his own.
CLAIRE BENNET
(HAYDEN PANETTIERE)
As if life’s not tough enough
when you’re a teenager,
THE THRILLS
Teenager (Virgin)
The Thrills made something of
a smash with their summery
debut So Much For The City
and highlight single ‘One Horse Town’ in 2003. They perhaps
rushed to follow it up with the 2004’s unremarkable Let’s
Bottle Bohemia, which largely sunk without a trace. Having
taken a little longer to regroup and work on their third
offering, Teenager finds the band returning to the Beach Boys
aspirations of their debut. And they almost hit the mark on
the likes of ‘This Year’ and ‘Nothing Changes Around Here’.
‘Long Forgotten Song’ nods towards the anthemic sound of
The Waterboys at their finest, while the title track is a soulful
and melancholic reflection of how quickly age creeps up on
us… from a songwriter still in his 20s!
These highlights apart though, too much of Teenager
is depressingly much of a muchness, with tracks like
‘Restaurant’, ‘I Came All This Way’ and ‘I’m So Sorry’ proving
indistinguishable from one another, with an over-abundance
of jingly-jangly guitars and Conor Deasy’s gratingly raspy
vocals. Only hidden track, ‘The Boy Who Caught All The
Breaks’ strays slightly from the monotonous template of the
rest of the album, with its retro organ and nagging bass line.
One Horse Town? This is unfortunately more a
one-trick pony... AG
NEW YOUNG
PONY CLUB
Fantastic Playroom
(Island)
Don’t use the controversial,
inflammatory N-term – as Big Brother might
euphemistically call it – to describe New Young Pony Club:
‘Nu Rave’. While they toured with glomosexuals Klaxons,
they’re more akin to new wave bands like Tom Tom Club and
ESG, with pin-up-in-waiting frontswoman Tahita Bulmer’s
innuendo-laden lyrics lubing up the sensual, languorous
funk of tracks such as ‘Ice Cream’.
‘The Bomb’ explodes in a flurry of beepy synths, urgent
guitars and hi-hat drums. It grips a dancefloor by the (disco)
balls and doesn’t let go. More experimentally, the sambabeat
of ‘Hiding On The Staircase’ is what would surely emerge
if Tight Fit, Adamski and Salt-N-Pepa were kidnapped by
pop-terrorists and forced to compose a track for The Rapture.
Lyrically, it’s mostly about bumping uglies. If it were any
more filthy, Fantastic Playroom would arrive discreetly
wrapped in a paper bag. On the Girls Aloud-in-outer-space
of opener ‘Get Lucky’, Mrs. T declares “Let your girlfriend do
what your boyfriend can’t,” while suffice to say, the spiky ‘Jerk
Me’ isn’t about watching Countryfile with a Horlicks.
Sassy in spades, and applying the correct amount of pressure
to pop’s G-spot, NYPC will have a future long after the
MySpace gigeratti have fled for fashions new. GR
KELLY CLARKSON
My December (RCA)
Poor Kelly Clarkson. After
shifting a whopping 11
million copies of her 2004
album Breakaway, you’d think everything would be rosy
in the run up to the release of new album, My December.
Instead, she’s just parted company with her manager,
cancelled her summer US tour, and rumours are rife of
clashes with the head of her record label over this new
collection of songs. You’d think that after making them
so much money, her label would be happy for her to do
whatever the damn well she pleases, but no, apparently
there have been creative tensions over the direction Kelly is
determined to push herself.
And what about the actual record? Well, basically, this is
Kelly’s Jagged Little Pill – a rather angst-ridden, sometimes
bitter, reflective and highly personal collection, with many
songs pre-occupied with a gone-wrong love affair. But you
know what? It’s all a lot more palatable than you might
imagine. There’s the gutsy stomp of lead single ‘Never Again’,
the anthemic empowerment of ‘Maybe’, tender ballad ‘Be
Still’ and the folky rock of ‘Can I Have A Kiss’. The five-minute
‘Sober’ is an unashamed paen to 12-step recovery, while
intimate, acoustic closer ‘Irvine’… well, it’s the sound of a
singer flexing her artistic muscles, even if the results defy
neat categorisation. Go Kelly! DH
SHERRYBABY
Maggie Gyllenhaal (sister of Jake) stretches her acting chops in this low-budget piece of American
indie cinema. She plays former heroin addict Sherry Swanson, an ex-con who’s determined to rebuild
her life and be a proper mother to daughter Alexis. However, life on the outside is much harder than
she anticipated, and her young daughter has already established a strong bond with Sherry’s brother
and his wife, who have been looking after the girl while Sherry was in jail.
Although bleak, this is an accomplished piece of filmmaking and Gyllenhaal turns in a suitably
authentic performance. Strangley though - given its subject matter - it doesn’t quite succeed in
delivering a truly emotional punch.
FLAGS OF OUR FATHERS
LETTERS FROM IWO
JIMA
OUT: 2 JULY
Director Clint Eastwood’s two
epics about the 35-day World
War II battle for the island
of Iwo Jima, told from the
viewpoint of the American
troops (Flags Of Our Fathers)
and the Japanese (Letters From Iwo Jima). The latter was
praised as the finer movie, but it’s probably best to view
the two films as companion pieces. Both examine the
human response to the horrors of war and the true nature
of heroism.
she is now the bride-to-be
Norton’s reappearance. With solid characters, old-fashioned
storytelling, and evocative cinematography, this deserves a
wider audience than its cinematic release enjoyed.
SLEEPING DOGS
OUT: 16 JULY
Receiving only a very limited
cinematic release earlier
this year, this low-budget
production is our favourite
romantic comedy of the year
so far. Melinda Page Hamilton
plays Amy, the young teacher
who’s life is turned upside down
when she confesses to her fiancé her darkest secret – that
she once gave a blow job to a dog. Despite the rather gross
premise, this is a gently-paced, warm-hearted slice of
American indie cinema.
teenage niece Jessie, played by
Jodie Whittaker, comes to visit.
O’Toole immediately falls under her spell, for although his
looks may have faded, his interest in the ladies remains
undiminished. A gently-paced but comic outing.
REVIEWS BY DAVID HUDSON
RESTAURANT
HUDSON REVIEWS CAMINO, REGENT QUARTER, KING’S CROSS…
Camino, 3 Varnisher’s Yard, Regent Quarter, off Pentonville Road, N1.
t | 0844-606 0102. www.barcamino.com.
The first new eatery to open in the multi-million pound Regent
Quarter, and probably the most heavily-invested new restaurant to
open in King’s Cross for several years, the Spanish-themed Camino
has already garnered itself plenty of column inches. It’s the
brainchild of the Cantaloupe Group’s Richard Bigg, who is already
co-owner of busy London nightspots Cargo and Market Place.
Is King’s Cross ready for such a venture? Well, with the Eurostar link
due to open next year, and the Regent Quarter nearing completion,
the answer’s yes. The Quarter itself, for those unfamiliar with the
area, is the block next to King’s Cross Station. Pret A Manger and
Starbucks have already staked their claim, and you’ll find Camino
down a little alleyway besides the latter, within Varnisher’s Yard.
The venue is split into two distinct halves, with the restaurant on one side, and Bar Camino on the
other. The stylish interior is all warm and wooden – with brickwork walls, tiled flooring, pale wooden
table tops, tanned leather seating, zinc bar tops all complementing each other perfectly. A huge,
circular skylight illuminates the restaurant – perfect during these summer months.
The menu is a study in Spanish cuisine in all its multi-regional glory. We opted for the roast piquillo
peppers filled with crab in a seasonal seafood sauce reduction (£6), and the Jamón Ibérico De Bellota
De Jabugo (£14.50), which was billed on the menu as ‘the world’s ultimate ham from acorn-fed pigs
that roam the oak forests in Jabugo’! The ham was dry-cured and packed with flavour, but I think my
companion probably opted for the better choice with the peppers, which were delicious.
We went for the specials for our main courses, with my companion choosing the pork fillet with
bacon, blue cheese sauce and baked apple (£13.50) – a sublime combination. I had grilled monkfish
with octopus black rice and al-i-oli (£14.50), which also proved a winning combination, although
a touch on the stodgy side. We finished off with thick, rich slices of almond tart (£4.50) and my
companion washed it all down with a glass of Manzanilla sherry. .
A super-stylish venue, attentive service and great food. On the Monday we visited, business was slow,
but expect that to change as word spreads…

TOP TIPS
FOR KEEPING A RELATIONSHIP STRONG…
• Be honest with yourself and your partner.
• Communicate your thoughts and feelings - both to
yourselves and supportive friends.
• Agree and regularly review rules, needs and
boundaries – especially in relation to sex drives
and open relationships.
• Respect each other for your differences as much as your
similarities.
• Compromise and collaborate.
• Develop shared interests; and cultivate mutual friends
- including straight friends!
• Think about sex where you are present rather
than absent (i.e. off-your-head).
• Beware acting out other people’s preconceptions: whether
being the proverbial gay “bad boy”; or playing “happily
married”.
• Consider using a therapist preventatively - not just
in a crisis. For a list of accredited sexual and relationship
therapists: www.basrt.org.uk

FIRE’S WHITE
PARTY

The circuit party scene in the US has been alive and
well since the 80s but has never really be taken up with
the same fervour over here. All that changed recently when
Fire hosted their very own White Party weekend.
From the white carpet outside to the mirrored and white
decorations inside, all the stops had been pulled out for
the occasion, even down to the white baby grand piano in
the newly refurbished room three, which now resembles
a swish rococo-esque gentleman’s club. Following its
three-week closure in May, much of the rest of the club
had been revamped too. The mirror arch is now festooned
with Vauxhall’s largest collection of mirror balls and an
all new 3x3 grid of giant plasma screens is capable of
playing graphics, logos, flames or anything else that takes
the lighting jocks fancy, while the Lightbox played host
to sexy glistening go-go’s in impossibly tight trousers
and white masks grooving and jiving under the heavenly
star-like ceiling that cossets and encloses the clubbers in a
wondrously awe-inspiring space. Music was courtesy of the
usual Fire All-stars that we love (19 DJs in four rooms over
11 hours!), and on this occasion they were joined by White
Party Amsterdam residents Max Morel and Benjamin
Aillery, who kept the sexy sounds coming thick and fast on
the main floor.
The crowd were as dressed up as the club, with white shorts
and jeans featuring highly – although sadly, very few
WORDS AND PHOTOGRAPHY BY CHRISJEPSON/LONDONCLUBLAND.COM ©
people in Fire seem to be able to afford tops! There were
also bunny ears, boiler suits, swimwear and underwear, but
first prize has to go to DJ Stevie B for his teeteringly high,
thigh-length, white patent leather boots – and he played a
three-hour set in them – you go girl!
We managed to grab a few words with Fire’s Megan about
the club’s recent closure, who was ecstatic about the
weekend’s success.
“The White Party was amazing! We couldn’t have had a
better opening weekend. The club looked stunning and the
Fire faithful were out in full force, which made for a fantastic
atmosphere and definitely a party to remember.”
We also asked her about the club’s recent closure following
its police raid in May - something that must have been a
shock for all those who work at the club.
“Obviously we had our concerns, but we’ve always
worked closely with the police and that occasion was no
different. Their goal isn’t to close clubs down, but to create
a safer clubbing community for everyone.”
She was also keen to re-assure everyone that now the
club has reopened, things are pretty much back to normal.
“Judging by the weekend we’ve just had, things are better
than normal! I think the closure really made people realize
what they were missing. We also used the time to our
advantage to refurbish the club even more so it looks better
than ever. When we opened the new Fire Lounge jaws were
literally hitting the floor!”
The crew have plenty more parties planned for the rest of
the summer (kicking off with the Juicy Pride party on 30
June) - keep an eye on details by checking the website at
BUTT OUT

Even if you’re a non-smoker, the introduction of the
smoking ban will be the most significant thing to hit the
scene since the Criminal Justice Bill (or at least since Megan
projected her face across the LED-jewelled fourth arch at
Fire).
In case you were in any doubt, smoking will be totally
banned across all club venues in London, and with £2,500
fines payable and a further £1,000 payable for failure to
display the right no-smoking signs, club promoters, venue
owners and bar-owners have more than enough incentive
to ensure that if you want to light up, you better get the fuck
off the dancefloor and out of the club.
For the greater good of the health of the population, I
can’t deny that this has to be a move in the right direction.
I don’t want my taxpayer’s money thrown at disgusting
chain-smoking ashtrays any more than the next guy (and
those yellow stained teeth – yuk!). However, if you actually
consider how the ban impacts on our club scene, the results
could change our clubbing experiences beyond recognition.
Whether you love it or loathe it, cigarettes are part
and parcel of most scene experiences and as many smokers
admit, are consumed at a faster rate when you’re in a club.
Indeed, I enjoy a smoke when I’m clubbing and say bollocks
to the health risks. I slave away all week, and after a few
hours losing it on the dancefloor over the weekend, I want
to sit down with a drink and refreshing Marlboro menthol.
So shoot me. It’s relaxing, it’s comforting and it’s chilled.
And yes, I want it to slowly kill me. I’m so fucking good
all week, so pure, so agreeable – I want to do something
downright naughty, non-sensical and self-indulgent.
In fact, so engrained is the humble fag on my
weekend clubbing ritual, I’m not sure my nights out are
ever going to be the same again - or at least as sociable.
I have nurtured a loving relationship with my so-called
‘DTPM Husband’ purely as a direct result on punctual,
conscientious and well-timed cigarette breaks at convenient
and sensible times, when Sunday night’s shenanigans get a
little out of hand and we all need to head to the banquette
seating and calm down a little. I’m sure the relationship
will continue once the fags are left at the door, but I’ll sorely
miss my cruisy cigarette time-outs.
Sure, the mass movement on and off the
dancefloor is going to cause some serious
disruption to the ‘journey’ being laid down by the DJ.
Groups of smokers migrating to the back door at regular
intervals, freezing their arses off, only to be searched on
their way back into the venue, is going to have more than a
minor impact of the flow of the scene’s more credible house
nights.
And contrary to all research and focus groups telling
you otherwise, I’ve always found that the availability of
spare cigarettes in my pocket is directly proportional to the
likelihood of returning chez moi with a guy in tow. Perhaps
it’s the potential for interaction a cigarette creates – the
steal, the light, the obvious conversation that follows – it
plays right into my routine for reeling them in. Translate
I HAVE NURTURED A
LOVING RELATIONSHIP
AND WELL-TIMED
CIGARETTE BREAKS…
‘Have you got a light mate?’ to ‘You’re cute, would you like to
fuck me in the toilets later?’
I’m never going to be the cutest piece of butt on the
floor, but boy, if I can engage ‘em in conversation, I stand a
chance of conquest. It can pay for a bonnie lad like me who
wants to grime up a bit you know, and a fag does wonders
for the poor little preppie boy desperately trying to make
himself a little more attractive to the shadier characters on
the dancefloor.
As you read this, it’s probably been made law by now.
I’ll have already stubbed out my last ciggie by the time
you pick this up this edition of Out In The City. The only
smoke you’ll be seeing will be being pumped out by the
dry-ice machine. Kiss goodbye to fag-burns blotting your
complexion, festering clothes, and to all those pikey skanks
who hover around the dancefloor asking “Can I buy a spare
cigarette”.
my case, probably alone…
CLUB KALI

Twelve years in club
land is a long time, and
an amazing achievement
for any night. It’s an even
greater achievement
for one that exists more
on word-of-mouth
recommendations than
press coverage or hype. Club
Kali is one such club, and in
June it celebrated its 12th
anniversary at the Dome in
Tufnell Park.
The 500-capacity Dome is
basically a large room above
a pub – a very large room.
It’s been variously described
as a bit like a church parish
hall or a school disco of a
venue. Ritu, Rita and the
rest of the Kali crew move
in once a month and make
the place their own, with
swathes of fabric, UV lights,
and a big screen for playing
Bollywood movies. Multicoloured
optic lights along
the bar rotate through the
colours of the rainbow, and
the overall atmosphere is
loud, brash and colourful.
Kali, if you didn’t already
know, is the world’s largest
gay Asian club night. The
birthday party attracted
loyal fans from far and
wide, and was soon fit
to bursting… and what
a mixed crowd. Probably
50/50 boys and girls, of
all ages and backgrounds.
The soundtrack is bhangra
and other world music
sounds, mixed with some
contemporary house and
pop. Bhangra mash-ups
of House Of Pain’s ‘Jump
Around’ and Nelly Furtado’s
‘Promiscuous’ soon had
plenty of hand-clapping
and foot-stamping on the
dancefloor, which stayed
busy till the end of the
evening.
“The night was packed,
and brought tears to my
eyes at times because of
the love and laughter in the
room,” promoter Ritu told
us later, “plus, because we
dug out some of the classic
tracks which have been
Kali favourites over the last
twelve years!”
When asked what was the
best aspect of promoting
the night, she answered
without hesitation. “Kali is
unique. There is no other
club like it in the entire
world. The music is special
- uncompromisingly kitsch
and ‘feel-good’, while
also crossing cultures and
genres. There is a meeting
of worlds both in the music
and on the dancefloor.
We bring people together.
Divisions have no place at
Kali. And, we know that for
some of our regulars we are
a vital ‘lifeline’ in what can
be a hostile world.”
Club Kali returns with a Pride
Party on Friday 20 July, The
Dome, 1 Dartmouth Park Hill,
(above The Boston), Tufnell
Park, N19. www.clubkali.com
THE GOLDEN LION

London’s newest gay
bar, The Golden Lion
in King’s Cross has been
quietly building itself a
following since its launch
three months ago. This
bright, spacious, corner pub
has stood on the site for
decades, but only turned
pink when taken over by
owner Mike Stein and
entertainments manager
Jon Ward earlier this year.
Big windows allow daylight
to illuminate the large
ground floor bar, which
could be best described
as sporting a ‘smart
traditional’ interior. Brown
brick walls complement the
cream-painted woodwork
around the bar and natural
wooden floorboards. Big
vases of flowers add a note
of sophistication.
You’re sure of a warm
welcome on any day of the
week, and the team have
plenty of promotions and
entertainment to keep you
coming back for more. This
includes the increasingly
busy Bingay and karaoke
session every Monday,
presided over by Chris
Reardon. There’s a 9pm quiz
every Tuesday, the Larfing
Lion Comedy Club in the
upstairs Theatre bar every
Thursday, plus the Platinum
DJ session every Friday,
when club jocks spin the
house sounds till late. This
is followed by more karaoke
and club sounds every
Saturday, and the Sunday
evening cabaret. On the
night of our visit, Crystal
Waide was entertaining the
crowd… and anyone who
happened to be wandering
slack-jawed past the
venue’s big windows!
Crystal appears fortnightly
at the club, while guest
stars such as Sandra and
Topping & Butch take care
of the other Sundays. The
team kick off July with a
big PA from hi-nrg heroine
Hazel Dean, who will take
to the stage on 1 July.
They’ve also just unveiled
their brand new, secluded
beer garden, out at the
back of the bar – just
ahead of the smoking ban
coming in to force. For
promotions, call the team
DISCOTEC

Discotec has always attracted a diverse and mixed
crowd of pleasure-seekers, and the night we visited
boasted a truly pan-global selection of gay boyz and girls,
all united in their desire to party!
The End is a beautiful venue, situated at basement
level, below West Central Street, off New Oxford Street.
It boasts two separate rooms. There’s the Lounge area,
which showcases the best in urban sounds, plus the main
dancefloor, which reverberates to the best in funky house.
Promoter Adrian Eleftheriou took over the week-to-week
managing of the place about four months ago, and he’s
worked hard to ensure that the night retains its cutting edge
credentials. To this end, there’s a constantly rotating line-up
of DJs, which special guests flown in from all over the world.
On the night we visited, taking care of the main floor were
DJs Lora, Lee Harris and France’s Leomeo. Meanwhile, in the
Lounge, they had Pacman, Gideon, 9Bob and Qboy, with a
guest PA at 1am from Mz Fontaine, who laid down the hip
hop beats and rapping.
The club will be celebrating Pride weekend with a special
party on Thursday 28 June entitled Girls vs Boys. The two
rooms will be split between the sexes, with ‘The Little Boys
Room’ featuring Femi B, Guy Williams and Leomeo, while
‘The Little Girls Room’ will have Candy Bar DJs Slamma and
Philly, with Brandy and Crystal on the mic.
For highlights of events coming up in July, check the
website at www.discotec-club.com… or just get your ass
down to West Central Street on any given Thursday!
Discotec takes place every Thursday at The End, 18 West Central
and The Edge. For more details check www.discotec-club.com or
HEAVEN

The grand dame of London gay clubs, Heaven
established itself an international reputation as soon as it
first threw open its doors nearly 30 years ago. However,
it’s never been one to rest on its laurels, and continues to
continually showcase new DJ talent and to tweak and refine
its winning formula. We popped along on a sultry Saturday
evening in June to find the place buzzing with good-time
boys and girls, all taking advantage of the choice afforded
them by this cavernous club beneath the railway arches of
Charing Cross Station.
DJs Nick Tcherniak, Gonzalo, Oliver M and Malcolm Duffy
took care of the main floor, which besides being illuminated
by the usual array of mind-warping lights and lasers, staged
a horny dance show of muscled go-go’s.
To coincide with the end of the series on Channel 4, the
Departure Lounge was hosting an Ugly Betty party,
with screenings of the show on the big screen, host Manny
dashing around in a Mexican poncho, and drag Ebony
dressed up as Wilhelmina!
The Star Bar is the second largest room, and on Saturday
nights it’s been re-christened ‘Play’, complete with its own
terrace-style VIP bar at one end. David Rosen, Simon QB
and Terry T Rex took care of the Dakota Bar, which was
packed with lovers of r’n’b, hip hop and urban tunes, while
mainstream chart hits kept the Pop Room buzzing.
Given Heaven’s international standing, it’s only
fitting that it should want to spread its wings,
and this year the crew have taken over
Penelope’s in Ibiza for the summer months.
The venue threw open its doors this week,
with resident jocks Pagano and Gonzalo being
dispatched to the White Isle for the season’s
duration. Hostess Polly has also packed her bags
and headed to Ibiza, so you’re sure of spotting a few
friendly faces. Mirroring its parent venue in London,
Heaven Ibiza will boast its own lush Departure Lounge
for members and a spectacular VIP area, The Island. In fact,
the VIP members terrace will be split over two floors, with a
beautiful terrace overlooking the Ibiza marina. Penelope’s is
a gorgeous venue near Ibiza airport and opposite Pacha. It
has a capacity for 2,500. The venue will be open throughout
the week, although the Heaven gay night will run each
Tuesday, with different promotions and parties taking care
of the rest of the week.
IN THE RED
Blue Cube’s annual mega party Ruby is back! The promoters of DTPM and Fiction will be
teaming up with the infamous Trade crew for a big post-Pride celebration on Sunday 1
July. However, instead of taking over Canvas, as they have in previous years, for 2007 it will
be taking place at DTPM’s regular home, the gorgeous Fabric in Clerkenwell.
The theme for the night will be ‘Dangerous Liaisons, so dust of your most extravagant frock,
don your fanciest wig and grab an oversized fan.
On Dance Floor 1 you can expect the finest in uplifting house from DTPM allstars, while for
fans of the hard stuff, the legendary Trade will be hosting Dance Floor 2. Expect sets from
Malcolm Duffy, Gonzalo and Lady Bianca.
Finally, making a welcome return from a long rest is Fiction, which will set up camp on
Dance floor 3. Re-visit that Friday feeling with the help of Stewart Who?, Luke Hope and the
one and only Fat Tony.
You’ll find the state-of-the-art Fabric at 77a Charterhouse Street, Farringdon, EC1. Advance
SWEDE
SPECTACULAR
Fans of quality Swedish pop
music should get along to
G-A-Y on Saturday 21 July.
London’s most high-profile
gay club will be hosting a
special one-off gig from
three of the country’s finest
pop bands – Alcazar,
Army Of Lovers and
BWO (Bodies Without
Organs)! What links all
three bands? They’re all
creations of songwriter
genius Alexander Bard,
who is bringing Army Of
Lovers and Alcazar back
to the stage for the first
time in many years. Expect
such camp classics as
‘Crucified’ and ‘Crying At The
Discotheque’, along with
the debut single from Bard’s
latest creation, BWO.
Before this, on Saturday
7 July, expect another
exclusive when the Kit
Kat Dolls take the stage.
The band shot to fame
following their appearance
on Britain’s Got Talent, but
were evicted from the show
when the tabloids claimed
that certain members of the
transsexual band worked
as prostitutes! Obviously
not deemed worthy of
performing in front of the
Queen, we’ve not doubt
that the 2,000 queens
who pack out G-A-Y each
Saturday will give them a
much warmer welcome!
You’ll find G-A-Y at the
Astoria, 157 Charing Cross
Road, WC2. For more details
of events at the club, as
well as G-A-Y Bar and
G-A-Y Late, check www.
BINGO BOY!
For a very different sort
of evening out, why not
join Johnny Woo for his
Gay Bingo session? This
unique event takes place
once a month at Corbet
Place, The Old Truman
Brewery, off Hanbury
Street, E1. The July date
takes place on Sunday 22
July. Johnny whips up the
excitement in the packedto-capacity
crowd with
songs, dancing, fabulous
gutter couture and, of
course, lashings of bingo
– aided and abetted
by Ma Butcher on the
number cruncher and DJ
John Sizzle on the decks.
The crowd is a veritable
who’s who of Shoreditch
glitter-arty, plus lovely
London lads, girlz and
everything in between…
Add to that the odd celeb,
and you’ve got London’s
sexiest Sunday soirée!
GOING
Station are pleased to
for business. Enjoy the
flowers and foliage
or just nip up there for
a fag! The bar also has
a new wine menu and
what could be nicer than
a nice chilled glass of
Lola Lasagne
wine on a sunny roof
terrace?
The venue also has plenty of cabaret booked in for July,
kicking off with Trashville Tennessee on Saturday 7 July.
BINGO BELLE!
Here’s a duo that you don’t
see together often… drag
performer Timberlina
and TV hostess Vanessa
Feltz! Timberlina hosts
the Monday night bingo
Timberlina and Vanessa session at the Royal
Vauxhall Tavern, and
last month they had a very
special guest to help draw the balls… none other then
the larger-than-life TV star and columnist.
“Vanessa Feltz was fantabalous! A pleasure and a joy!
Warm, funny and no holds barred,” Timberlina told us
afterwards. “She was so generous to the audience we all
had a fab time - the audience went wild as she arrived
in a Bear-Chauffeured Merc and they were ever so well
behaved with the Q&A. Well, for the most part. Fred
Bear made a dapper butler, and Vanessa made Lisa from
Islington’s year by signing her tits! With a permanent ink
marker! So thanks to everyone for coming down and
making it a great night... we love Vanessa Feltz!”
Timberlina’s bingo session runs every Monday night at the
Royal Vauxhall Tavern at 8pm. You’ll find the RVT at 372
Kennington Lane, SE11.
Pistols ‘God Save The
Queen’. London’s biggest
weekly night for bears,
cubs, daddies, blokes,
hunks and chunks will be
NEW CHUNK!
It’s all change for the Chunk crew. We went along to the
night to take some pictures, not knowing that the evening
of our visit would prove to be the club’s last appearance at
former home South Central!
Promoter Julian took a three-week break, but as we were
going to press, was about to relaunch the night at a brand
new Vauxhall home – at under-the-arches club Area.
Whatever your shape or size, whether you class yourself
as a bear or not, Chunk is simply one of the most relaxed
and sociable nights out in gay London. The music policy
is a bit of a nostalgic jukebox, with the rotating line-up
of DJs (including the likes of Ben Jamin, Jim Stanton,
L’il John, Eazy and Severino) playing classic retro disco
sounds. Everything from 70s funk and 80s pop gets
mashed up with today’s house, electro and chart hits.
“After three successful years at South Central, Chunk is
moving onwards and upwards to a bigger and better
venue,” Julian told us. “Chunk will be from now on a
permanent resident on Fridays at Area in the café bar and
show bar.”
Expect regular cabaret, a new terrace area for those
wanting to have a fag, and free entry before 11pm (£5
after). Check out the all new Chunk at Area, 67-68 Albert
Embankment, SE1. Doors are open from 10pm till 4am.
LONDON GAY SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA
www.lgso.org.uk
Founded in 1996, the London Gay Symphony Orchestra is
the UK’s only LGBT orchestra and is one of only three such
ensembles in Europe, and five in the world.
The LGSO was formed as a hub for the large number of gay and lesbian musicians who want
to combine their musical and social lives; and prides itself on being run “by its members,
for its members”. It plays a wide range of music, from baroque to contemporary. Its patrons
include Clare Summerskill, Amy Lamé, Sandi Toksvig, Rt. Hon. Lord Smith of Finsbury, Paul
Gambaccini and Ned Sherrin. Artists and groups it has performed with include Jimmy
Somerville, Simon Callow, Rosalind Plowright and The Pink Singers. And the LGSO likes to
stress it’s straight-friendly too!
So if you are a musician, composer or concert-goer; if you have music, money, or any
relevant useful skills; or even if you’d like to hire the orchestra for a special occasion - the
LGSO would love to hear from you. It welcomes both playing and non-playing members
and is always on the hunt for volunteers. Or why not pop along to their next concert – an
all-Shostakovich programme on Sunday 8th July 2007, at St John’s Church, Waterloo Road,
London SE1. Tickets cost £10 (£8 concessions) and are available on the door or in advance
COMMUNITY NEWS GAY VOLUNTEERS WIN IMPACT AWARD
Metro Centre’s innovative Metrosafe Project, which provides one to one mentoring by volunteers, has recently won the GlaxoSmith-
Kline IMPACT Award worth £20,000 for its work. Judge Steve Dewar said: “An excellent organisation, that is doing the right things
and doing them well. Metrosafe is an astounding example of effective service provision.”
The organisation, based in Greenwich, has volunteers from all areas of life for lots of different reasons. David, a Volunteer at Metro
Centre, said:“The Metro Centre has allowed me to be involved with the Gay community outside the bar and club scene. In my role
as a volunteer I am able to take control of the sexual health agenda and be actively involved in promoting healthier sexual lifestyle
choices for gay/bi men within the community.” The Metro Centre has been providing advice, support, information, events, education
and training to LGB people since 1983. It runs a range of services providing support and peer advice and a dedicated group for LGB
people 50 years of age and over. Its weekly clinic, Pitstop, provides free consultations with trained nurses and HIV, Syphilis and
Hepatitis A and B testing. ‘Pitstop’ has been running for four years and provides HIV tests for over 500 individuals per year.
Metro Centre runs Volunteer Inductions three or four times a year, offering a full professional recruitment and selection procedure,
induction and training for our volunteers. For more information or an application pack please visit www.metrocenteronline.org or
email mary@metrocentreonline.org.

BARRYMORE RELEASED WITHOUT CHARGE
Michael Barrymore, has – at time of going to press - been
released without charge after having been arrested and questioned,
along with two other men, on suspicion of murder and
serious sexual assault. His lawyer said the gay entertainer and
Celebrity Big Brother runner-up categorically denied allegations
that he was involved in the death of 31-year old butcher,
Stuart Lubbock, at the star’s Essex home in March 2001.
Terrence Higgins Trust and Sigma Research have launched the
annual national online Gay Men’s Sex Survey – Vital Statistics,
along with another survey, What Do You Need?, aimed at
establishing the health needs of people living with HIV. Last
year, over 13,000 UK men took part. The surveys can be completed
LESBIAN IVF USAGE HIKE
The number of UK lesbians using IVF is on the up, according
to latest figures. During 1999-2006, the number of treatment
cycles for lesbian couples tripled - from 300 a year to almost
1,000; the number undergone by single women merely
doubling. Interestingly, the biggest group of women leading
the statistical surge are those of all sexualities aged 40+. Treatment
costs £4k-£8k per cycle; totting up to an average requisite
bill of £12k-32k per recipient.
CHLAMYDIA HOME KIT LAUNCHED
Terrence Higgins Trust has teamed up with online medical
service DrThom (www.drthom.com) to launch a unisex home
sampling kit for chlamydia - the most commonly diagnosed
sexually transmitted infection (STI) in the UK today. The service
also includes treatment for those who test positive; and an
anonymous SMS former partner notification facility. The
sampling kits cost £25 and can be ordered online from
www.tht.org.uk/chlamydiatesting. Treatment is free to those
testing positive.
Whoopee! No more “no gays”! Stonewall has launched The Colour of Your Money - a plain
sponsorship from Lloyds TSB has enabled the gay mega-charity to print 300,000 postcardsize
copies of the 12-page guide, to be distributed free across Britain through hundreds of
outlets including libraries, queer venues, Citizens Advice offices and community groups. A
PRO-GAY UK?
A new poll commissioned by Stonewall has found that – contrary to certain shrill minority
voices still opposing equality in modern Britain - the vast majority (85%) of Brits support
the newly-introduced Sexual Orientation Regulations which offer protections for gay
people. Similar numbers at least claim they would be happy if their child’s teacher (73%), a
relative (80%) or a member of the royal family (88%) was gay.
George Michael has played the first ever concerts (9 and10 June) at the new Wembley Stadium, seven years after Bon
WILL YOUNG LOVES LONDON’S ROYAL PARKS
An eager Will Young fan has spent £1,000 to snap up a deckchair that the singer and actor
has customised for the Deckchair Dreams campaign. Twenty-three celebrities and artists were
asked to design chairs, which were then sold at auction, with proceeds going towards the
maintenance of thousands of trees in London’s Royal Parks. Will Young likes walking in Hyde
Park and has previously confessed to hugging the trees. He said: “I love London’s parks. They
are such relaxing places to be and I have always loved the deckchairs, especially in Hyde Park.
I was delighted to be given the opportunity to design a deckchair, whilst helping to raise
funds for such a worthy cause.” Taking inspiration from the Mamas And Papas, Will’s chair was
emblazoned with the slogan “All the leaves are brown and the sky is gay” (sic).
material will be his last as a songwriter. “My next album I do intend to be my last album or original material. I just don’t feel
the need to have to do that any more. I enjoy singing other people’s songs so
much more.”
OUTSPOKEN:
JANETT SCOTT
DON’T DROP THE T
FROM THE LGB PLEADS
THE “GENDER GIFTED”
BEAUMONT SOCIETY
CHIEF.

To tag on the T or not to tag on the T to the LGB, that is the
question? And a pretty controversial one at that, with some
of the UK’s most prominent gay rights groups ditching the T -
doubtless to help lube the passage of their hard-enough-asis
fight for rights! What is sadly true is that there is a certain
amount of ignorance and prejudice towards T people from
some sections of the LGB community, who often confuse
T with mere drag and see it all as some kind of big joke.
Equally unfortunately, if predictably, prejudice is oft reflected
back towards LGBs from certain sections amongst Ts.
WHAT UNITES LGBS AND TS IS
THAT WE ARE ALL MINORITY
GROUPS FIGHTING FOR THE
RIGHT TO BE OURSELVES
Following the Gender Recognition Bill 2003/4, many T men
and women – including non-surgical Ts - may claim to
be straight within their newly legally recognised genders,
and thus eschew any association with the LGB minority.
However, this surely unnecessarily denies the very distinct
and rich reality of their Trans histories, which shapes their
true T identities.
Moreover, it may surprise some readers to know that
many – around three in five in an informal poll I recently
conducted – T women find themselves attracted sexually
to women, even post-op, claiming that they were always,
in fact, lesbian, but had been previously trapped inside their
male bodies. Indeed, many post-op transsexuals pair up
as couples with other similar post-op Ts. Of course, I can
understand why, now that the T community has started
to find its own voice, it might want to steer clear of being
labelled with other groups who tend to define themselves
in terms of their sexual orientation, not their gender
orientation or gender lifestyle.
But what surely unites LGBs and Ts is the fact that we are
all minority groups fighting for our human rights, be they
in terms of orientation, gender or lifestyle – for the right
to be ourselves. And united we are surely stronger. Would
the New York Stonewall riots have been sparked in 1969
without Trans people? Likewise, without the support of
many LGBs, where would the T community be today? For
me I will always be part of the LGBT community, and go
on Pride marches; and go with friends to any hostelry that
supports all minorities.
Born February 1934, Janett became President of the Beaumont
Society for transgender people in 1990. She lives full time as a
woman but is not a transsexual – neither taking hormones nor
considering major surgery: www.beaumontsociety.org.uk

COHABITATION RIGHTS
DEAR LEGAL DOC,
My boyfriend is going to move into my house and
rent out his house. I have asked him to contribute
to the mortgage and bills as he will be making
money from his place so it’s only fair. Please could
you let me know if he will have any stake in my
house in the future? I have heard about laws
regarding common law partners living together,
could you let me know what these entail. And do
they apply? If so, is there any way around it? I see
it as unfair if he has 100% of his house and I have
to give him any share of mine.
JB, Fulham x
DEAR JB,
If your relationship remains unregistered and your partner
moves in with you then he will be a lodger and will have no
legal rights over your property. You may consider entering
into a Cohabitation Agreement setting out the basis of your
cohabitation. This would include an agreement to contribute
towards the mortgage and bills.
If your partner paid or contributed towards the cost of
improvement to the property or did a lot of work which
significantly increased the value of the property he may then
have a claim against you for a share of the equity. It is a myth
that ‘common law partners’ exist. If your civil partnership is
not registered and you merely live together then none of the
protections of the Civil Partnership Act will apply.
If you decided to register your partnership but the
partnership subsequently breaks down then it will be
necessary to petition for dissolution of the partnership
in order to bring the civil partnership to an end. Upon
dissolution it will also be necessary to consider the division
of the assets. All assets either owned by one of you or both
of you will be considered assets of the civil partnership and
will be considered for division.
It is possible to enter into a Pre-Civil Partnership Agreement
in order to record what you would both like to happen to
your assets upon dissolution. These agreements are not
binding and the court can make its own orders without
reference to them. However case law suggests that, if they
are entered into properly, they can be strongly persuasive
and the judges have tended to follow them.
The Family Department at Giambrone & Law are specialists
in this area and would be happy to advise you on any aspect
of Civil Partnerships and cohabitation.
DO YOU HAVE A
PARTNER?
Without a Will and without
a civil partnership, they may
not be entitled to any of your
estate after your death.
CIVIL PARTNERS
The Civil Partnership Act has allowed gay and lesbian
couples to be treated in the same way as married couples
for the purposes of their wills. If a gay or lesbian couple
become civil partners, there are huge inheritance tax
advantages that can be realised through a tax efficient will.
WHY SHOULD GAY AND LESBIAN COUPLES MAKE
A WILL?
If you don’t make a Will, your gay partner may not be
entitled to any of your estate. Your Will can ensure you
choose where your estate goes in the event of your death.
Writing a Will can give you
TAKE CONTROL
Make the choice and recognise the people that
matter to you.
WHY CHOOSE GAY WILLS UK?
At Gay Wills UK, our prime objective is to ensure we meet
the needs of our clients by writing Wills that reflect their
wishes. One of our local agents will visit you in your
own home. There are no formal offices or uncomfortable
surroundings, no ‘clock-watching’ or pushy salesperson!
WHAT IS GAY WILLS?
We are a partnership specialising in producing Wills for the
gay and lesbian community. We help you ensure the people
you choose inherit from your estate. What will happen to
your estate if you don’t have a Will?
disputes. We give advice on cohabitation and pre-civil partnership agreements.
What’s the hardest part of the job?
Knowing that there is only so much that can be done to help people and the realisation
that the legal process is a far from perfect mechanism for the resolution of interpersonal
disputes.
What do you love about the job?
Meeting so many different and interesting clients - a cliché but true all the same.
What’s the weirdest/maddest case you’ve had to cover?
My last criminal case was in 1982 when I was instructed to defend a bloke accused of
stealing a dead car battery used to keep open the gate of a local scrap yard. His only
“previous” was a juvenile conviction for stealing parsnips from an allotment. Hence my
relocation to London and move into family work. Since then many clients have brought a
smile to my face but discretion means that I must keep their secrets!
We put this month’s solicitor through the Out legal inquisition
COMPANY: BIRCHAM DYSON BELL
INTERESTS: ATTEMPTING (AND FAILING MISERABLY) TO ICE SKATE LIKE JOHN CURRY!
What section of law do you specialise in?
Family Law, including the consequences of relationship formation and breakdown both
same and opposite sex. The emphasis is on the resolution of complex financial and child
related disputes, often with an international flavour, civil partnerships and cohabitation
What do you think is the biggest benefit legally to come out of the Civil Partnership Act?
A long awaited recognition that gay and lesbian couples deserve the ability to formalise
their relationship in a manner which provides rights and responsibilities not too dissimilar
from those available to those who can marry. Only time will tell how attractive
an option it is.
What’s your biggest achievement?
Having done the job for over 20 years and avoided becoming a complete cynic and
believing the best is still to come.
Bircham Dyson Bell is one of the UK’s fastest growing and most progressive law firms, comprising
TAXING TRADE
It’s been reported that the taxman is to take a much
closer look at those who trade on eBay, with HM
Revenue & Customs believing that many traders fail
to declare their full profits. Will this affect you? Well,
not if you purely de-cluttering your house and selling
of some old possessions or CDs. However, they’ll be
scouring internet transactions and targeting those
whose usernames appear with above average frequency.
Those who make a living from eBay, produce items for sale on eBay, or who sell one-off items
of great value, should check the HM Revenue & Customs website for advice. www.hmrc.gov.uk.
BANKS VS CUSTOMERS
MISSED CREDIT
Increasingly credit card companies try to secure our business by attaching various fringe benefits
to their cards. However, a new report has indicated that 2 out of 3 credit card holders are signing
up for attractive deals and then failing to claim their benefits – with half receiving no benefits
whatsoever. Whether you’ve a new card or have had the same card for a while, check the small
print on your policy agreement with regards to what it may entitle you – many cards now reward
you with discounts on certain products, travel points, cashbacks or other perks.
It’s been revealed that Lloyds TSB had a second win in
the courts against customers attempting claim back
“illegal” bank penalty charges. Following a judge
at a Birmingham county court dismissing a claim
for £2,545 from a Lloyds TSB customer, a Lancaster
county court dismissed a £3,000 claim from another
Lloyds TSB customer, ruling that he had failed to
state an adequate claim.
However, campaigners are urging bank customers not to be put off by these two isolated cases
at a time when many others are successfully claiming back their bank charges following a ruling
from the Office Of fair Trading. For many years banks have charged up to £25 for administrative
costs – such as those incurred by bouncing cheques or direct debits -when it’s been estimated
that the actual cost to the banks is considerably less. For more details, talk to your independent
financial advisor, or check out two websites devoted to the subject; www.MoneySavingExpert.
com and the online Consumer Action Group at www.consumeractiongroup.co.uk.

CAPRICORN
Where work is concerned, avoid
getting caught up in politics which
will cause a period of turmoil.
Instead embrace your romantic
side because you’re building up to
a romantic peak around the 28th.
Meanwhile, your health is below
average this month, so start to take
better care of yourself. Like the girl in
the L’Oreal advert – you’re worth it!
19 FEB-20 MAR
PISCES
20 JAN-18 FEB
AQUARIUS
While you’re enjoying an active
love life this month, you should
avoid rash decisions. Your
attachment to someone may
ultimately prove a waste of time.
Things are most promising where
work is concerned, with those in
authority finally recognising your
diligence this month. Look for
opportunities for advancement.
You come under the influence of
Venus in the second half of July,
which brings an increase in love
and sex. However, its influence is fleeting and a cooling-off is inevitable.
Meanwhile you’re brimming with charisma and creativity, but do be
careful to stop running your own mouth and listen to what others
have to say.
CANCER
The Pet Shop Boys’ Neil
Tennant, born 10 July, is
54 this month. Cancer is
the most moody, giving
and sensitive of signs.
They can appear assertive
on the outside, but are
actually big softies. Ruled
by the moon, the symbol
of emotion, you can be
sure Mr Tennant (like in
his song) is never ‘Being
Boring’...
23 JUL-22 AUG
LEO
After a rocky year, the dust settles
this month. All aspects of your gay
life including your finances, status
and relationships will improve -
particularly with a loved one who
you were finding it difficult to deal
with. A period of relative stability
has descended, so it’s not the time
to rock the boat by embarking on
any risky new ventures.
23 SEP-22 OCT
LIBRA
23 AUG-22 SEP
VIRGO
July marks a new period of
positivity for Virgos. Your natural
intuition is at an all-time high after
the 10th, which spurs you into
decision-making and action. Reign
in your spending and money worries
should begin to ease by the end of
the month. It’s an exciting month
of possibility that signals growth in
both career and family-relationships.
Money is coming your way so
Librans should make hay while
the sun shines. From 16th there’s
an opportunity to make big financial gains – though not without
remaining focused and proactive. This month you’ll find it easy to
remain motivated, and seeing this others will want to help you
towards your goals, lending finance or moral support.
21 MAR-19 APR
ARIES
A difficult few months means that
you’re naturally full of anxiety.
You needn’t be; it’s finally time
to kick-start your future. July is
ripe with long-opportunities that
will really pay off in the autumn.
So start making career plans, get
creative and be proactive. The next
few months are time to put your
shagging on the back-burner…
20 APR-20 MAY
TAURUS
It’s been a time of change, and
while there will be more hurdles
to overcome, keep positive in your
thoughts and actions and you’ll be
well rewarded. Interestingly, what’s
going to provide your momentum
is your love life. If you’re partnered
then expect a period of renewed
romance that’ll leave you in no
doubt about how loved you are.
21 MAY-21 JUN
GEMINI
At last some brilliant work
opportunities come knocking
mid-month. Respond with hard
work and you’ll enjoy growth in
both career and income. Although
your love life may experience a
temporary slump, during this time
you’ll be in such a social whirl for
the next few months that’ll hardly
have time to notice.
22 JUN-22 JUL
CANCER
Prepare for some serious loving.
The tail end of July launches an
extended period of high passion
(you little minx). Not before time,
and it will provide some comfort and
welcome relief to the turbulent home
life you’ve been experiencing. It’s a
period in which you’ll feel especially
creative and expressive, when all your
relationships should blossom.
23 OCT-21 NOV
SCORPIO
July is a busy month. Expect lots
of social activity, but also of an
increasing workload. Rise to any
challenge and use your network
of friends to relieve the pressure.
You’ll need to keep a level head to
avoid an unpleasant confrontation
at the end of this month, but it’ll
all be worth it. For Scorpios 2007
is year of personal growth.
22 NOV-21 DEC
SAGITTARIUS
Your luck changes significantly for
the better this month, with both
travel and money coming your
way. Any hurdles can be overcome
with your amazing communication
skills, which really come into their
own. However, at the same time,
don’t neglect your partner or fuckbuds
WHY QUIT?
You want other reasons to quit besides the upcoming
smoking ban? Smoking is estimated to cause something
in the region of 120,000 people every year in the UK.
It has been linked the development of several cancers,
most notably lung cancer, as well as various other lung
conditions like emphysema. It can cause hardening of the
arteries, leading the heart disease and stroke. The damage
it wreaks upon your micro capillaries can also lead to sexual
impotence and other circulatory problems – some of which
are only treatable with amputation. It also accelerates the
ageing of your skin and the formation of wrinkles
