Univ
niversity of Miami Pre-Law Chapter News
ws
This semester at the University of Miami, the P.A.D. Pre-Law Chapter has been
focused on increasing membership, campus involvement, and professional events. As we
continue the tradition of professionalism, and service to the students and our community,
we are moving on an upward slope towards our goal in becoming a strong unified
brotherhood on campus.
During orientation, incoming students are given the opportunity to attend Canesfest,
a student involvement fair where all the student organizations set up recruitment tables
with representatives on hand to answer any questions and promote their organization.
This was a great opportunity for our Pre-Law Chapter because 67 new members signed
up. We followed up by hosting informational sessions to get new members excited for
what to expect this semester.
Our Executive Board and some of our new members attended the Leadership Symposium
in Orlando, FL this fall. Attendees had the opportunity to interact with other chapters, and
learn expert tips from Director of Pre-Law Operations Byron K. Rupp. We have benefited
from this by gaining a better focus and balance on what our Chapter seeks to accomplish.
Thanks to our Vice President Jasmine White, who is very involved with our campus Pre-
Law Advisory Club, we had the opportunity to cosponsor a Law School Mock Admission
Panel on campus. Representatives from George Washington University School of Law,
University of Miami School of Law, and Florida International University School
of Law went over three different student applications and discussed whether or
not they were qualified for law school. This gave our members insights into the
law school application process.
We also attended a personal statement writing workshop at the Toppel Career
Center on campus, hosted by our Kaplan representative, Anthony Coloca. This
campus-wide event helped us to increase Phi Alpha Delta’s visibility on campus.
For one of our meetings we had Toppel Career Center representatives speak to us
about cover letter writing. We also attended “Ask the Law School Expert” where
a speaker came to campus and answered some questions about what law school is
like and what they are looking for. We also hosted a social with Alpha Kappa Psi
to network with other professional fraternity members.
In November, we sent four Executive Board members to the Pre Law
Conference in Alexandria, VA where they had the opportunity to network with other chapters, law school representatives,
and P.A.D. headquarters staff. During the conference members were given the opportunity to speak to different law
school representatives at the Law School Expo. We plan on coordinating a trip to a law school next year so our members
can look at law schools outside of Florida. They also spoke to different LSAT prep course representatives to determine
what would be the best fit for their test preparation needs.
Next year, we plan to bring more of our members to the Pre-Law Conference because it is a great opportunity to
foster leadership amongst our younger members. We also enjoyed a great bonding experience with our brothers and
sisters during the free time we had to explore the city of Washington, D.C.
