The Pancreatic Cancer Action Network
is a nationwide network of people dedicated
to advancing research, supporting patients
and creating hope for those affected by
pancreatic cancer. That starts with raising
awareness for the need for more federal
attention on pancreatic cancer. Only six
percent of those diagnosed with pancreatic
cancer will survive for more than five years.
Despite being one of the deadliest cancers,
the federal government has not made
pancreatic cancer a research priority.
You can change that.
FIGHT IT BY ADVOCATING FOR INCREASED
FEDERAL RESEARCH FUNDING
While the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network raises
funds to award its own research grants, we also
strongly advocate for increased federal research
funding for pancreatic cancer. The federal government
is the primary funder of cancer research through the
National Cancer Institute (NCI), one of the National
Institutes of Health. Although pancreatic cancer is
the fourth leading cause of cancer death in the U.S.,
little of the NCI’s current budget is spent on finding its
causes, diagnosis and treatment. Congress controls
NCI funding and can create other policies that impact
pancreatic cancer research and patients—that’s why
your elected officials need to hear from you loud and
clear. Join us in the fight to make pancreatic research
funding a priority.
FIGHT IT BY URGING CONGRESS TO
TAKE ACTION
The Pancreatic Cancer Action Network will provide
you with everything you need to serve as an effective
advocate and to make a difference in the lives of
pancreatic cancer patients. We’ll keep you informed and
let you know when you should take action. Don’t let the
federal government make decisions about pancreatic
cancer without getting all the facts. When you join us,
you become part of a nationwide grassroots network
of people raising their voices to create awareness,
funding and hope.
END IT WITH YOUR HELP
• Congress considers a variety of policies all year
long that can impact pancreatic cancer research
and patients. Make sure that your elected officials
make the right decisions for pancreatic cancer
patients by going to www.pancan.org/TakeAction
and sending them a message.
• Join an advocacy committee or become an
Advocacy Coordinator with your local volunteer
affiliate or a Community Representative. We’ll help
you organize local advocacy events and activities
such as group visits, call-in’s and petitions to gain
the attention of your members of Congress.
• Join hundreds of other advocates from across
the country at our annual Pancreatic Cancer
Advocacy Day in Washington, D.C. We’ll train you
how to become an effective citizen activist for
pancreatic cancer research and patients.
TOGETHER WE CAN
KNOW IT. FIGHT IT.
