constituency have been placed into their respective wards. It becomes easy to compare
the distribution of infrastructure in the various wards and it also helps development
25.0 Findings and Comments
Education:
The number of primary schools in Zhombe is more than that of secondary schools as in
most constituencies. All the wards in the Zhombe constituency consist of at least a
primary school and about 81% of the wards have got at least a secondary school. This
shows a fair distribution of schools in the constituency although it will be more
commendable if all the wards have at least a secondary school, for instance wards 2, 5
and 12.
The fact that most of the schools do not encounter hot seating points to the fact that there
are strides being taken to provide adequate facilities to pupils in terms of infrastructure
like classrooms. The greater number of teachers in most of the schools is trained and it
will be also highly appreciated if all the teachers are trained to foster the delivery of high
quality education.
Health There is a fair distribution of health facilities in the constituency. However the
issue of the shortage of nurses still haunts most of the facilities. The constituency has also
1 hospital, in ward 10, which however does not have any resident doctors at it disposal.
There is therefore need to post doctors at this facility to cater for complicated cases that
may not be fully addressed by the nurses.
Local government

All the councillors in the wards of Zhombe constituency are males. There is therefore
need to ensure that women participate in local politics so as to represent their interests in
the development and decision making process. Gender mainstreaming to ensure inclusive
participation is therefore a need in local government posts.
