G & J WOOD Machinery is SCM Group UK’s recently appointed distributor
in the North East of England, and the company is already
supplying a number of machines in its area from its home base in
Houghton-le-Spring, Tyne and Wear.
Graeme Foster and James Graham can boast over 30 years’ experience
in the woodworking industry and are very well respected engineers by
trade with a thorough understanding of the solid wood, joinery, furniture
and panel processing industries.
Promoting SCM’s Premium Range of machinery, including classical,
panel processing, CNC machining centres and sanders, the wide range
well suits G & J’s customer base in the North East, where the company
services all types of machinery and is capable of obtaining or manufacturing
spare parts itself in order to provide its increasing number of customers
with a very high level of service.
Rosebirch Ltd is a typical G & J customer, supplying fit out solutions to
a wide range of the UK’s leading retail companies, and is currently experiencing
strong growth through fostering professional relationships and
delivering timely results of a high standard. One of its key goals is to provide
a professional and friendly service to all types of organisations, from
large corporations to smaller retailers. Rosebirch has a staff of over 40
personnel with a well equipped workshop including latest technology Panel edge trimming unit, gluing & tape feeding on SCM K260
wood and panel processing machinery.
As Rosebirch manufactures a wide range of counters and cabinets to Evo at Rosebirch Shopfitting.
meet its customers requirements, managing director, Stephen Flynn, was keen to improve the
edgebanding facility, as the old machine was coming to the end of its life, so he contacted
G & J’s Graeme Foster who had already supplied both service and machinery to Rosebirch
over a number of years.
After detailed discussions, Stephen Flynn confirmed and order for an SCM single sided automatic
edgebander, model K260 Evo, from G & J Machinery, and upon arrival at Rosebirch’s
factory, it was immediately installed and commissioned by G & J. Stephen Flynn comments:
“We already had a very good working relationship with G & J having bought machines and
servicing from them over a number of years, and as they are now an SCM distributor, we
trusted them to supply a machine to meet all our edgebanding requirements.”
The SCM K260 Evo edgebander is a compact machine but fitted with many of the features
employed on much larger machines, one of which is the RT-V infeed panel edge trimming
group that has two contra-rotating cutterblocks that plane any imperfections from the panel
edges and thus provides an excellent surface before edge gluing with hot melt adhesive.
This unit is followed by edgebanding application of both rollfeed materials, including
melamine, PVC and ABS, and strips of laminate and solid wood lippings up to 6 mm thickness
on panels from 8 to 60 mm thickness at a feed speed of 9 m/min.
The K-2 end trimming unit follows, always giving a perfect cut, with the two independent
motors sliding on prismatic guideways. The unit provides rapid set-up between straight and
angular cutting with the automatic tilting device and it can also radius corners. A top and
bottom edge trimming and finishing group, R-K, follows with rapid changeover between
straight and radius finishing with pneumatic positioning and fast adjustments with mechanical
readouts.
For top quality finishing of all applied edges, a glue scraping unit is followed by a buffing unit
to remove any sharp edges after machining the applied edging materials. Error free programming
and optimal visualisation of all production information
is provided by the “Orion One Plus” control unit
at the infeed to the K260 Evo with a 4 in display.
Rosebirch’s Stephen Flynn concludes “We are very
pleased with the SCM K260 Evo Edge Bander. It is very
fast to set-up between the wide range of jobs that is
due to the nature of our business and it provides an
excellent finish on all panels. Plus we have the comfort
of Graeme Foster and James Graham, being
based locally, to provide us with excellent service on
all our machines in order to keep all of our own customers
happy and maintain good relationships and
ensure future business.”
