From one pedal <strong>bin</strong> to an entire <strong>Vipp</strong> family<br />
The very first <strong>Vipp</strong> <strong>bin</strong> was made in 1939 as a labour of love. Today,<br />
<strong>Vipp</strong> has developed into an entire family of products. The original <strong>bin</strong><br />
has now been supplemented by a range of products ideal for bathroom,<br />
kitchen, bedroom and office spaces as well.<br />
Early on in its history, <strong>Vipp</strong> became very successful on the professional<br />
market. Over the past two decades, <strong>Vipp</strong> has taken its unique design<br />
and high quality to the private market as well, and today <strong>Vipp</strong> has won<br />
recognition as an international design icon appreciated by design<br />
conscious consumers as well as architects and unique building projects<br />
around the world. On numerous occasions, <strong>Vipp</strong> has collaborated with<br />
international designers and artists in creating one-of-a-kind art objects,<br />
which have been exhibited and auctioned off for charity.<br />

Hand-made in Denmark<br />
<strong>Vipp</strong> still manufactures its pedal <strong>bin</strong>s in Denmark, just as it did back in<br />
1939. The materials are also the same: stainless steel and rubber. Most<br />
of the <strong>bin</strong>’s components are manufactured at <strong>Vipp</strong>’s own factory. This<br />
guarantees a high quality product which is a joy to use on a daily basis.<br />
Each <strong>Vipp</strong> <strong>bin</strong> consists of up to 42 components and is hand-assembled<br />
by skilled craftsmen at our factory. One employee can assemble six <strong>bin</strong>s<br />
per hour.
Holger Nielsen & his wife Marie
It all begins in 1939 – as a love story<br />
The year is 1939, and Holger Nielsen and Marie Axelsen have just married.<br />
Marie is a hairdresser, and she decides to open her own salon in Randers,<br />
a small town in Denmark. Money is tight, so she asks her husband to<br />
help furnish her salon, with among other things a practical and beautiful<br />
waste <strong>bin</strong>. After many hours in the workshop, he is ready to present<br />
the <strong>Vipp</strong> pedal <strong>bin</strong> to Marie – and she is thrilled.<br />
Like Marie, the customers in her salon love the <strong>Vipp</strong> <strong>bin</strong>. Marie’s customers<br />
think that the <strong>bin</strong> is ideal for their husbands’ dental clinics and medical<br />
practices. The sudden demand for the <strong>Vipp</strong> <strong>bin</strong> prompts Holger to start<br />
production on a larger scale.

<strong>Vipp</strong> – a family company<br />
Holger Nielsen passes away in 1992, aged 78. A man with conservative<br />
views, he would never have imagined one of his daughters taking over<br />
<strong>Vipp</strong>. However, Jette Egelund, the couple’s youngest daughter, cannot<br />
bear to see her father’s life’s work disappear, so she decides to take<br />
over the company. At the time, <strong>Vipp</strong> <strong>bin</strong>s are exclusively sold to the<br />
professional market, but Jette Egelund has a dream. She grew up with<br />
the pedal <strong>bin</strong> in her childhood home and wants others to enjoy the <strong>bin</strong> in<br />
their private homes too.<br />
The production has multiplied since 1992, and <strong>Vipp</strong> is now sold across<br />
the world. Jette is no longer the only person steering <strong>Vipp</strong> towards new<br />
heights. Her two children, Sofie and Kasper, have joined the company as<br />
co-owners. <strong>Vipp</strong> is now a family business in second and third generation.
