Acknowledgement
Many efforts have been made globally for the enhancement of gender equality. Yet
women are still marginalized from social and economic rights and recognition of
women's equality in our society is still insufficient. In this preliminary research, we
look into the fields of gender, Information and Communication Technology (lCn issues,
and capacity building of rural women in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations
(ASEAN) member states to improve their socioeconomic status and to promote their
livelihoods.
This preliminary research would not have been possible without the help and
guidance of several individuals and organizations.
First and foremost, we would like to deeply thank all the contributors to the
research and give special thanks to Dr. Eun Kyung Kim, an expert in gender related
research and consulting, for advising and guiding us on this research and Dr. Ki Hyun
Kang, an expert in survey analysis, for analysing the results of the local surveys.
Last but not least, we would like to express our gratitude and appreciation to
ASEAN and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade of the Republic of Korea for
making this project possible. Without their support, we would not have been able to
complete the research and share its remarkable findings.
